Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
I think the next system should be a pure gaming console as is this one, I already have a DVD player and I don't want to pay extra money for Project Dolphin 2. Besides that, a real gamer doesn't base their console choice on whether or not it can play DVDs. I think the mini discs being used now are cool, I don't know if they have enough capacity to hold next generation's games though. I don't want to have 2 discs for every game though so unless they can design the same size discs with bigger capacity, I guess they'll just have to use some other type of disc. Backwards compatibility would certainly be nice, for those times when I feel like reliving the 'good 'ol days'. As for the GBA player option, I don't want it to be a standard feature because that's something else I don't need (or use very much) and it just raises the price again. I think they should sell it as an attachment just as it is this generation. Built in wireless receivers would be cool, I would like to see wireless controllers become standard. I wouldn't miss the rumble feature, personally, I like playing better without the rumble feature. If I feel the need for that stimulation, I'll put an adult toy in my pants while I'm playing. At launch time, they should have one of their major titles ready. I think if they had Mario Sunshine, Windwaker, or Metroid Prime ready at launch with the Gamecube, they would've won more customers. I know Super Smash Bros. Melee was released soon after launch but that isn't as classic as other titles like Mario, Zelda, etc. As for multiplayer, it would be cool if online playability was definite, but also keep their offline multiplayer alive. I think LAN should be abandoned because bringing two TVs togther into the same room is pretty unfeasible. I have yet to play a LAN game and I don't think I will because neither my friends nor I have a way to set it up at any of our houses. I guess that's pretty much it. One of my unrealistic hopes for next generation is for Nintendo to create a virtual reality game where you wear a headset and have special gloves you put on so that you become totally immersed in the game.

Although at a birthday party the other day we had a big fun 8 player Mario Kart LAN set up... It was swit... As for N5... Ehhh *shrug*... I don't think it needs a DVD BURNER... a DVD player maybe... but maybe not... NGC backwards compatibility would be nice... blah blah blah not really any different than what most people have been saying... I mean, I really don't think a "Pure gaming" console is gonna cut it... Nintendo fans might be all "Yaaay go Nintendo pure gaming", but I don't think they'll be as happy when the sales slump and game development drops off... Not that it necesarily will if they do that... |

And having a DVD burner on a gaming console is just stupid. What would you burn? |
Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
it should have a built in death ray in case someone wins and rubs it in your face. The death ray will detect the excessive gloating and kill them,

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
If the other companies choose to include other things and exploit/mass market those other features besides the fact that their console is meant to PLAY GAMES, then I feel shame for any company who mass markets the secondary features besides the fact that it plays games. It's almost the way Americans purchase things. We don't care about the main point of a product, we want to know/have the extra things that come with the product. Me personally, I just want a game console that plays games. Don't try to sell me on the fact it can do 50 other things when all I want it to really do is play my damn games, not cook my dinner, walk the dog, play my porno, etc....
But back on topic. Everyone continue posting your ideas:) |

Carts! We must go back to Carts!

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
I personally like the idea of wireless being the standard, as long as the controllers work from 30 feet or so and have long battery life. The console should have ONE small port on the side for recharging your controllers, and each controller will have a port on it to plug other controllers into to charge them as well, enableing you to charge multiple controllers at once, creating a chain effect of sorts. I think that would work. No more ugly controller ports.

Using thoughts from here and a few new ones of my own, ive compiled what I believe to be an accurate rendering of what the N5 could look like. Ive highlighted all the key features for you.

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
Lol Jason, I like the "for her only" feature on the controller!

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
handles, definatly handles , and they shud take online gaming to new hieghts, beter graphix and a contoller more suited for fighters so they can cover all the geners

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
I would like to reiterate my position on the wireless controller. If they could get the rumble feature on it I am completely for it. However, there are just certain games that are so much better with it. My support for this is Zelda... I preferred N64 games with the rumble pack and I would not play Wind Waker with out it.

Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
What it should be
It should take what's great about the Gamecube and N64 and just add to it. Don't sell developers or cartoonize and games this time around ;). Take a page out of Sony's book and re-hash all the big series of the past and innovate the games that didn't do so well in the past... and if they have a great new idea, put it on a whole new title instead of putting a franchise face on it so it can sell. Nintendo should stop and look for or create at least one killer app in every genre. Popularity and sales aside, just make them for high scores. This gen they were confused over the fact that popularity doesn't mean as much as quality in hardcore gamer's eyes... but that's the past. I think that N5 should be a gaming only machine again, but it should be a bit more like Xbox. I think with all the pirating going on a HD would be a dumb idea for Nintendo next gen, but they should have some sort of built in memory that has high quantities instead of the rip off memory cards they have. (1/8 of Ps2's memoryfor 1/2 the price) Online gaming is a must, if they don't step into the online gaming world with an iron fist the Nintendo Kingdom will fall. If the next gen starts as late as speculated, they may need to start doing more online now. As far as specific game changes, Zelda needs to go back to the N64 style. If it ends up being crappy, well, us fans learned our lesson... but Nintendo keeping somthing that big to grow in our imagination is dissapointing. Seeing Link in SC2 didn't help euther, just made me feel worse about it. Oh, last but not least, PLEASE dan't make a controller as crappy as Gamecube's again... If gamecube didn't get the worse graphics in third party games, it almost allways had the flat out worst controls. Compared to Ps2 and Xbox, Gamecube's third party fighting/wrestling games are unplayable. now... What it will be If they keep the same mentallity they have this generation... the "if it don't make money, don't do it" and "popularity over quality" mentality... I think this console will out-class GCN but be a complete failure when compared to Xbox 2 and Ps3. We may get some nice re-makes, like a GTA3 remake, or a MGS2 remake... heck, why not a Enter the Matrix remake while we are at it ;). Due to the fact that the online gaming community will be at around probably 4-8 million next generation, I doubt Nintendo will follow it very strong. As long as they never veiw not going online as a mistake this generation, they won't fix it. I expect somewhere around 5 exclusive online games next gen, and the only ones they will truly back online will be the ones already popular on Ps2/Xbox (the sports games for the most part, and maybe a MMORPG) I expect Sega to re-release there sports line up for the first two years of the generation again on N5, then again back out because the sales arent going to be on the level of the Ps3/Xbox counterparts. If GCN happens to be out the gates first next gen may god have mercy on Nintendo's soul. Take GCN's early line-up and pull out all of the ports and non-exclusive games, and that's how it's going to be for the first year leading up to Xbox 2 and Ps3's releases. If I had to put money on it, I think that N5's success range will land somewhere between GCN and Dreamcast. |
Re: The official N5 thread: speculate!!
I really don't even know what to say. A lot of good ideas here (particularly the one about the waffle maker). I guess in my opinion Nintendo should almost just back out of the console market and go exclusive for one of the other two consoles.
I just really don't see Nintendo being successful with their business strategy. The US side of Nintendo really seems to understand why they aren't doing as well as they should be, but the Japanese side seems very narrow-minded and arrogant to me. I'm really sick of them because they're not giving us what we want, they're giving us what they think we should want. It's like gifts from my parents during my younger years. Here's my rendition of the N5 (made in Mario Paint!). |
