Yeah, I just did. And there are 34 guests viewing GT...

I thought they had to register...

Edit: Now it's 22 guests, a slight drop.

All of the guests we have right now are actual guests though. There are no longer any spyder bots as far as I can tell.

i just got the message again...and i checked the number of guests on...48...48!!!

thats a pretty large number of guests..anyway to decrease the amount of guests allowed on at a time?

edit: i've counted the number of acually guests and it was 10...the others were google spyders

I got one today when I came on right after school, and now I'm back here, but I didn't get one. They don't bother me much, because all I have to do is sign in and it takes me to the main forum. And even if the server too busy messages come up it's not like I have to go to another page to sign in, so they don't really bother me.

Not that I can find. I did find a lot of other useful tips & tricks though, which none seem to be working.

I guess the best way for members to combat the server too busy and keep their new posts is to just get used to unchecking the box that says automatically log me in. Then when you log in, any new posts since you were last on will be there.

And oh yeah, I got the message not too long ago also :p

Bond, is it possible you could alter any part of the url?

Like instead of ".net/forums" you could change it to ".net/forum" so that would most likely confuse all our bot visitors.

And I still think you should require people to register before they can view.

That probably is possible, although every single vB forum I have seen has "/forums/" Even if I was able to do that all of our pages would get screwed up and it would probably create more trouble then it is worth.

I might require people to register to view the board, but that didn't stop the bots. I even tried closing the forum overnight and it didn't stop them.

When you change a major part of the address like that doesn't it automatically change the part of the address in all the pages?

Edit: I just checked the "Who's Online" area and it listed almost all the guests as Google Spiders. Do you think maybe you could try contacting Google and ask them to stop scanning our site.

All of the addresses may change automatically, but I'm not sure and I wouldn't want to take that risk.

I've done a few hours of research (ugh) on how to get rid of the spider bots, and I found how to create this file that the bots should check to see what folders they are allowed to index and whether or not you even want them indexing your website. Obviously the google spider isn't checking the file, which it should every 48 hours or so. I'm trying a lot of other different things also, so hopefully something will work.

I would contact google like GameMaster said I mean they should be reasonable people. :)
