You'd think that everyone in Japan by now would own atleast 2 PS2's. 50 000 every week. geez.

Yeah, seriously. PS2's are easilt mess up. I am sure everyone's PS2 here says Disk Read error many times... Am I correct?

Mine does and I keep my PS2 in perfect condition.

GameKinG 02-20-2003 10:18 AM

Oh my, XBox is gaining ground... :/

Its more of 'ok' kinda good to know news for xbox owners, and 'ok' kinda bad news for gamecube owners. Cause ussualy something like 4,000 against 13,000. But japan loves their 'volleyball', just imagining they could 'play' with the 'voleyballs'.

Anything else out for them in japan? PSO? PD:O?

BTW, they eat GBAs for breakfast, and build houses with PS2s...

TheGame 02-20-2003 11:20 AM

Comfirmed... well, sorta... I just saw on G4TV that Xbox did infact beat GCN in sales in Japan for a week.

But like I said earlier in the thread... what date was your news from PsYcHo?

gekko 02-20-2003 02:24 PM

Wow, 1 whole week! Oh no, the world is gonna end!

Why make a big deal over nothing?

BlueFire 02-20-2003 07:31 PM

Maybe because this is a pretty big deal for Xbox. lol. :P

And I find Xbox sales in Japan kind of funny!!!!! :D

GameKinG 02-21-2003 10:14 AM

Yeah but saying this is a big deal for xbox actually kinda makes their sales even more pathetic in perspective (In Japan).

fingersman 02-21-2003 05:49 PM

Well congrats M$.......it may be only one week, but combine that with the fact that Xbox is made by an Americian company, and the fact that Zelda.WW was recently released, I'm surprised that Xbox was able to beat GC sales at all ( even if it was one week).

:D

I don't get any Disc Read Errors...neither do any of my friends  and I've had my system since Oct. 2000.

Seth 02-21-2003 09:05 PM

Ok, so japan and american sales all combined..who has sold the second most? Xbox or Gamecube. Cuz if this is the first week ever that the xbox has outsold the GC...?

so in total which system has more sales?

ps. Fanboys don't reply.

It's really hard to say right now.

Half the people you talk to will say Xbox is ahead worldwide, half the people you talk to will say GameCube is ahead worldwide. Although these three things I know are true:

Xbox is ahead of the GameCube in America.
GameCube is ahead of the Xbox in Japan.
Xbox is ahead of the GameCube in Europe.

Wind Waker wasnt released recently, it was last year, and sales had already slowed down quite a bit for it after the holidays and before Volleyball Se...err X.

fingersman 02-22-2003 09:13 AM

I think this the amount of consoles sold in the USA.
Now if someone could find the sales for Japan and Europe.*hint* *hint*

That brings the cumulative installed bases to:

PS2: 16,318,000
XBOX: 4,765,000
GameCube: 3,664,000
GBA: 12,159,000

Shadow_Link 02-24-2003 01:41 PM

Sorry for the delay, Justin, the date is on the link.

But anyway, sorry to bring up this old topic, but those numbers were proven wrong.

An explanation on how they came up with the numbers from the videogamestocks group on Yahoo (Link to message):

The website that reported those numbers clearly made up the story to generate hits to their site for ad revenue. They quote 'Weekly Famitsu' as the source for their numbers when the Famitsu numbers had the GCN at ~8200 and the Xbox at ~5200. They then used figures from a different source (Dengeki), which had the Xbox at the ~8700 figure and the GCN somewhere near 10,000) and put them together. Really just pathetic to be honest -- they also made up a random number on the Pokémon RuSa weekly sales, claiming they'd fallen to 33k per
week when they were still going strong at ~60k.
