What, I was interested in Ikaruga. Hence, worst post ever. You gave bad news!

good save.. :P

GameKinG 01-01-2003 01:58 AM

Oh, and that piss poor EGM thing. :D

Thoguh 2/3 of my games are Nintendo, but thats the reason people buy cube. And it seems many of the games 3rd party exclusive to cube are great, and some of the ones pulled away are crap, though not all. In any case I havent even really noticed many pull their games. Sega did yes, but it wasnt cause they wanted to favor other consoles, their sports were just not selling. Id like to see more non-sport sega games on cube.

GameMaster 01-01-2003 02:13 AM

I don't believe Nintendo will stop producing hardware. I simply don't.

Jonbo298 01-01-2003 02:15 AM

I think EGM is becoming more biased against Nintendo lately. Yes, 'Cube games have been appearing really high up in scores lately, but the Rumors that EGM keep giving seems like they WANT Nintendo to give up or something. Just a month or 2 ago EGM said something about Nintendo might jump ship and go third party like other companies have;) and now this! What's EGM gonna say next issue as a rumor?! Nintendo to hand Shiggy over to Microsoft?!

Tombor 01-01-2003 02:22 AM

I'm not really surprised either. I own all told of only 3 games and they're from Nintendo, Sega and Capcom. I play my Xbox and PS2 a LOT more and for different reasons: PS2 and Xbox exclusives and if I get a multi-platform title I go with the Xbox version.

Truth be told I don't see this affecting Nintendo in the slightest. They make heaploads of money whether Acclaim, Interplay, or Midway decides to port their junk to it anyway. And outside of a couple publishers, the aforementioned Sega, Capcom, and Square along with a couple other publishers (Bandai seems to be Cube happy in Japan and Infogrames has thrown a couple Ninty's way) no one is even bothering with Gamecube games beyond just porting their franchises.

Brian commented about Xbox being the same way. Well, yes and no. Xbox is much like Gamecube: recent numbers show that either a game will sell incredibly well (Splinter Cell, RE) or just completely drop off the face of the earth (Phantom Crash, Swingerz Golf). Xbox is more suseptable to developers. Especially the small cash-strapped codehouses. I don't see a Southend Interactive (Deathrow) even remotely considering making their pet project hyperviolent sports game for Cube. They don't see Genki, or From Software, or whoever else jumping on board of a platform dominated by the best development house out there. That's why, not to toot my own semi-fanboy horn, you'll see a lot more interesting 3rd party stuff. Plus MS throws around money.

In some ways Cube is an amazing system that way. With Nintendo, and the occasional Sega or Capcom, making games for their own system they've managed to carve out this bizarre niche Microsoft could only hope for. There are a lot of PS2 owners who, say, will probably grab a Cube over an Xbox as a second system simply because of Mario, Zelda, and Star Fox and the like. And, ultimately, Nintendo can probably do that indefinately. I only see some sort of Sega-level disaster causing Nintendo to dump some sort of system.

As for Ikaruga. Didn't Working Designs mention potential Gamecube development? Here's a high quality, low-priced shooter on the table. Just buy that. Game is in full english anyway. At least the DC version.

Dyne 01-01-2003 02:23 AM

Jonbo, I agree. The only reason Nintendo's getting attention is because of the.... uh.... the.... big... uh.....

:sneaky:

I wish people would STOP ****ting on them so much. What happened to those Xbox mashes and PS2 cracks? Why isn't anyone making fun of PS2 anymore?

I only hate them because they feel the need to point **** out. Anyone can do that. I probably wouldn't pick up Ikaruga anyways.

BlueFire 01-01-2003 03:14 AM

I agree.. I have my GC only for Nintendo. All my games for GC are exclusive to GC. I have my ps2 for otherwise.

fingersman 01-01-2003 10:49 AM

EGm does have a point.........the games I own are mostly Nintendo and Capacom...............but if the third party games where really good...then I would buy them.....no one wants to spend money on an average game (Although I'm thinking about buying Blood Rayne!!)
.......when you can pay the same money for an excellent game from one of the huge third parties or Nintendo. I can't blame Nintendo for making good games ............I guess third parties need to stop rushing their games and improve the quality............but then they have time constraints and stuff. Sooooooooo I odn't know

Well atleast I'm getting my Mario Kart and Zelda and SOA and 2 of Capcom's big 5............wait a minute that's alot fo money right there!!

*takes out gun and goes to rob a bank* :sneaky:

Oh I see. It's not ok to give bad news about the GameCube, but perfectly fine to give bad news about other consoles. Your reasoning is sound! EGM is awesome when they give great reviews for Nintendo games. But of course when they say one bad thing about Nintendo they are the devil.

Anyway, I suppose EGM has a point, here is my game collection:

GameCube:

Super Smash Brothers: Melee
Super Monkey Ball
Super Mario Sunshine
Animal Crossing
Metroid Prime

Xbox:

Jet Set Radio Future
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
Project Gotham Racing
Dead or Alive 3
Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee
MechAssault
NFL 2K3
Medal of Honor: Frontline
Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
TimeSplitters 2
Halo: Combat Evolved

Key:
Red = First party
Blue = Other

So, you can see the slight problem for 3rd party developers from my collection. Although of course Nintendo continues to make money on their sequels.

GameKinG 01-01-2003 04:21 PM

Yes well, MS doesnt have many first party games worth having, IMO. They were smart to buy bungie.

Jason1 01-02-2003 11:52 AM

Well...yes...and no...I mean...damn, I have no Idea how to say what I mean to say so I will just say that I have 1 Capcom game, 1 RareWare game, 1 EA game, and 1 sega game, and one Retro Studios game...so im doing my part arent I? Everyone needs to go out and buy ****ty games so nintendo will make more good ones!

Maybe, Gamecube owners are just more smart than everyone else, and elect only to get the really good games...

Not possible, simply because:

a) it's a proven fact that teenagers and adults are generally smarter than 6-12 year olds

b) you're not helping your case by saying "more smart"

:sneaky:

This reminds me, I dont think us nintendo fans have much to worry about. I mean, Nintendo always has the Gameboy to fall back on. Thats where they really rack in the big bucks, no doubt about it. So I figure as long as making a new Console is still profitable, I dont see any reason why they wouldnt make another.
