Gotta give my g-cube props. ~

CrOnO_LiNk 12-16-2002 02:40 AM

Ok, lets see...

GC VS. PS2

Gamecube

Games I own:

Metroid Prime
Mario Sunshine
Star Crap Adventures
SSBM
Eternal Darkness
Animal Crossing

PS2

Games that I own:

FFX
Kingdom Hearts
Suikoden 3 :)
GTA3
GTA: VC

Now lets see...

GTA3 and GTA:VC aren't that great too me... Sorry, just an opinion. I mean, this wasn't the reason I bought a PS2...

I mainly bought a PS2 for the RPGs... And my favorite PS2 games are those 3 RPGs I own...

On the other hand, we have the Gamecube.

Okay, so let's compare the genres.

Platformer/Adventure:

Super Mario Sunshine... I liked Mario more than Sly and Ratchet... Mario is my main man when it comes to adventure titles. SMS is loads of fun.

First Person Shooter/FPA:

Metroid Prime... enough said...

RPGs:

Here's where the bomb drops down... Here's where PS2 kicks Nintendo's non-story oriented ass very hard!

SIM/Strategy:

Well... PS2 barely has SIM kind of games... But Nintendo has Animal Crossing... PS2 will get Sims but I don't like Sims much because after I made $2,000,000 on my PC version of SIMs, I got very bored of the game. On the other hand, I don't enjoy Animal Crossing much either... Like it or not, this genre bores me to death. So I'll go with Nintendo on this one.

Sports:

...Oh boy. My most hated genre. yes, sports. You guys wanna know my most hated developer? Well, I think I wont say it since many people like the people behind NBA Live.... Why do I hate them you ask? Sport games are way out of my league and EA sport games are the ONLY games my friends play... So seeing that my friends don't have the slightest clue about the gaming industry, (yes, they don't know what or who rare and Square are... They call FF7 gay since you "stop and fight") I'd rather not talk about it... PS2 reigns supreme on this catergory...

Personally, I like my PS2 better just because of the RPGs... But guess what? I choose Gamecube for a valid reason. I think Nintendo deserves my pick since all their good games are their 1st party games unlike Sony's 3rd partry support. I mean, let's face it, Sony can't create a game that can match up to Nintendo's. My point is that Sony is a publisher and not a developer while Nintendo is both!

Now I am aware that this is favorite consoles we're talking about but, I think the Gamecube is an overall better console than PS2. But I still like my PS2 better just because of the RPGs.

Play Suikoden III, FFX, and Kingdom Hearts and you'll know what I am saying.

Happydude 12-16-2002 12:54 PM

i chose PS2...just cause i don't own a GC, and i do own an XBox...but i got only 1 crappy game...so yeah...PS2...cause like chrono said...all the wonderfull RPGs

Not to mention upcoming titles such as:
Breath Of Fire V
Xenosaga
Star Ocean 3
RPG Maker 2
Choas Legion
FFXII
hopefully a new Chrono game.
high possibility of a KH2

...theres more but I forget some of them.

and Legaia 2 has been out since September, it's a pretty good rpg.

Exactly. But the GBA also has some great RPGs too.

But so far, I like all my PS2 RPGs more than my GBA RPGs.

And before this post ends, you will!

Actually, you'd have a tougher job finding the threads where I'm as biased as you imply.

Reason # 1 being...

I rarely part take in threads where favoritism between systems clash.

Reason # 2

I know I'm biased. I don't try to hide it like YOU do -- and to no avail I might add. That said, I keep my personal liking for GameCube out of virtually every debate/thread I enter.

However my friend, since you mentioned it, I'd like to see YOU find those thread where I was bias.

While I wait for you to do YOUR part, I'd do mine.

You see, there's no way a person as "biased" as me would put an Xbox game on top of that of GameCube, let alone put any in THIS THREAD. But don't take my word for it, just click!

(correct me if I'm wrong, there're more Xbox games in that thread than they are GameCube games. If I'm biased, but it has no effect on my abillity to be fair, does it really matter? You're argument isn't looking to healthy, The Game)

At this point, maybe I couldn't care if Xbox -- for instance -- falls of the face of the earth, but it's just as I said; I don't let my let my personal liking for GameCube distract me when I enter a thread. Again, the link I provided supports this.

There you go hotshot! It's your turn to produce! You have much of my post history at your disposal. Chop Chop!

Don't worry. I'll be waiting... ;)

PS: You just love being owned, don't you! :p
I'm off to my thread on the GC board -- which you replied to. If I'm correct, you're probably asking to be owned in that thread too. :D

Is there a reason not to?

Don't be shallow, let me know!

Dyne 12-18-2002 02:30 AM

Sales don't mean anything in terms of quality or performance... in fact, I bet you didn't know this, but most PS2 sales come from Japanese who buy a second PS2 since their first one broke! In some cases, it's even more. I know a fellow who has gone through four PS2's... they aren't best of quality, the DVD player isn't special, and all the games are just good, but not great. Xbox is a very good console, and seriously underrated. My terms:

1. Gamecube
2. Xbox
3. PS2

Gamecube's in first because it actually has franchises one will look forward to. A good example of this is Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine, and of course, Zelda. It advertises solely to every age now and has fixed many loose strings about their reputation. All they're missing is sales, and they're pulling everything out of the bag they can at this point in time.

Xbox deserves more attention, because it is a very good console. I myself was a sucker and bought it for Shenmue 2 only, but I came out with something even better. Bigger is better here, and I think the only thing they lack is that they're advertising only to the adult-audiences and that Microsoft has a very poor reputation. Regardless, the games are amazing, the DVD player is very high quality, it has a hard drive for storing everything, and it's online functions are the best in the biz.

Sony, well, is much too overrated. Like I said, it breaks down a lot, and people buy multiple PS2's. In Japan, there is no such thing as fixing, but rather buy a new one to take it's place. That's why the sales are ridiculously high. Sony makes all the parts, too... it saves money, but then again, they aren't experts when it comes to every bit and piece in the console--which is why it breaks down considerably more than other consoles. The DVD player was nice at the time, but it's no longer adaquate quality in today's market terms.. it's merely an addon that was to sell it at the time. The games are, well, out of proportion: there are next-to-nothing when it comes to first parties, their best second-party had just merged with Enix, and their 3rd parties are basically what makes the system. PS2 games aren't mind-blowing, but they don't suck either--it really comes down to if you've experienced the games on the other consoles beforehand. In other words, PS2 is an older system, which should really be left in the dust from now on. The only thing keeping it alive is the selection of the games, basically. Plus, to add on, it was released one year earlier, so it was a decent buy at the time, with the makeshift DVD player, and the comfy line up of games. My official word is: you're not getting value for your penny anymore. Compare Xbox to PS2. See any differences?

Obviously the PS2 is the weakest graphically, with the Gamecube and Xbox well ahead of it's time competing for first, with Xbox winning out marginally.

The controllers... there's not much to say here; they're all great controllers, and none of them have any real flaws. Basically, they're all balanced to the system's needs, and fit perfectly. But it shouldn't be the deciding factor in which is the best.

In the end, Gamecube wins out. It's the best game system, because their philosophy of "only games--nothing else" really packs a punch when it comes to other add-on based consoles. Gamecube was born to game, and it will die gaming.

I don't care if you flame me for this, but I love video games, and no one can take that away from me. This is the bare truth. You can't judge a system on games. But you can judge a system from a technical standpoint. As for me, I've just found many more great games on Gamecube, and it's potential, and that's why I chose it. The words "PS2" and "Potential" no longer have meaning. Face it, it has nothing innovative coming for it anymore, and no one can deny it with "IT HAS TEH GAMES!!11". Sure, I can see myself playing FF12, or Chrono Break, or DMC2, or XenoSaga, easily, but they've run out of ideas. It is really going to be a long wait until the PS3 is released. PS2 games just simply don't stack up anymore: Xbox and Gamecube have huge interactive environments compared to the PS2's. The bigger the environments, the more the atmosphere. The more the atmosphere, the better the chance your going to like the game, and buy the system. That's how it works. PS2 is going to die, you have to face that. It's just begun. Developers are starting to flock to the other consoles (Konami's getting interested in Xbox, Capcom's getting interested in Gamecube, and even Square Enix is no longer a complete PS2 exclusive company.) What's left for PS2? Some RPGs? That's the only thing keeping it alive? FACTUAL EVIDENCE.

And again, don't try to evade me with that "GOOD GAMEz!!11" crap. PS2 is dying, and you can't deny it at all. That doesn't mean it's not the best, but what I'm trying to say here is that it doesn't deserve the praise it receives anymore.

I actually posted this at another board, and colleagues write:

Quote:

"Well, I own both a PS2 and an Xbox. I've only played like two games on the Gamecube. But PS2 is slowly sliding off my list of being even a contender with the other two. The Xbox has amazed me with its graphics and size of worlds in the games. The Gamecube was slightly less impressive, but impressive nonetheless. The PS2's graphics can't contend with the other systems too well, and the longevity of the games on the system are lacking as well. While it may have the widest library of games, and a few quality games, those games just don't last too long, unless you're a nostalgia type of gamer and enjoy going back to replay them. Then we have the quality problems of the PS2's system itself. I'm beginning to get disc read errors abound on my games, and it disappoints me that Sony didn't make a more 'sturdy' system in the first place."
Quote:

"I like Xbox the best. I'm a huge graphics whore. It has a bunch of seriously underrated games, too.

Gamecube probably gets second place because I have a soft spot for Nintendo franchises. Melee is still one of my favorite games.

PS2 is last place IMO. I never thought GTA was that cool and I don't have much interest in playing any more Final Fantasy games. Also, I don't think the hardware's that great.

I own all three so I'm not some huge fanboy or anything. Just my two cents. "
Quote:

Who cares about sales it all depends on good games.

I believe Xbox had the best year, then following closely GC and then PS2.

Xbox just had so many good games that came out this year and this was their first year in the market, and considering this is Microsofts first console they put out a lot of good games.

GC also had some great games too, with MS, MP, SF, and AC.

While PS2 had basically nothing. Except like GTAVC and a few others.
Quote:

I'm not really sure, but sales-wise, PS2 has got the other two beat by a lot, although GCN sales in Japan is catching up.

I would pick GCN if it didn't have that annoying "kiddy" image that many people get when they see Nintendo, people that want "M" rated games, people that want realistic graphics over the "kiddy" cel-shaded graphics (grrr....annoying Zelda arguement).

Personally, I like GCN over the other consoles, but the console war isn't just based on people who enjoy quality games, but people who discriminate Nintendo too.

Please note that I don't hate any particular console, both the PS2 and the XBox have great gams, but I think more of Gamecube's games suit my preference.
Quote:

Quantity? Ps2.

Quality? Gamecube.

Personally, the line-up the PS2 has isn't living up to many expectations, unlike last year when all the killer-apps came out. Nintendo however, has had great game after great game released.. unfortunately, people look to the system as a "kid's toy" and allow their ignorance to blind them.. which is really sad, because they're missing out..
Here's one for the PS2 fanboys:

Quote:

well ok I never played the game cube or a Xbox...
so you can tell me that I don't know what I say but
nintendo and the Xbox don't have a lot of RPG on them so its one my reason that PS2 is my choice. NEways PS2 has the best graphics.
And that is that. Everyone else only loves PS2 for it's RPGs, and if you want the generally n00bish comments a plenty, contact me.

Do you feel proud about yourself? I know I do (feel proud of myself, not you :p. If you don't you gots some self esteem issues you should deal wif. Which can be attented to by visiting a specialist who is good with self esteem or something

 :hmm:

I didn't know it was sad to feel proud of yourself?

I think it's sad if you aren't proud of yourself. Sad for you (not as in its "lame")

Perfect Stu 12-18-2002 11:38 AM

he feels proud about 'owning' justin

I guess ignorance is bliss, so maybe he should be proud

and I'm a very proud person myself...I take pride in a number of important things

but before I go into detail, define 'pride' as you see it...

Oh. No wonder :D I thought it was about his post.

Good to c u have pride. I reckon it's one of the most important things a person can have.

I would define pride as being confident in ones actions. And it varies with each person. But you cannot really define pride as it is the person who really decides it's relevancy in what they do.

If it's on the forums and owning , I guess you can be proud. It's not for us to decide

You know what's ignorant? Ignorant is about you worrying about something that doesn't concern you.

Are you his keeper? You let him do the worrying about how proud or ashamed I feel after whatever I said about him.

I'm pretty sure Justin understands this.. umm.. "relationship" we have going. Afterall, he seems much less worked up than you. Which is rather funny, I might add. That said, I find it ironic that you'll utter the word "ignorance."

What's wrong with you?

Perfect Stu 12-18-2002 05:46 PM

yeah man, I'm really worked up over it...

taking 10 seconds out of my time to say how stupid your little power trip is...I'm really too emotionally involved. Maybe I should take some deep breaths and rethink my intentions.

but if 'owning' justin gives you your jollies, so be it...whatever floats your boat
