Angrist, Israel hasn't gone nearly far enough. They've been way too nice to the Palestinians.
WHy is it that when the U.S. gets attcked, they have the right to obliterrate their enemy, even though this enemy isn't threatedning their existence, whereas when Israel is attacked (and its very existence is being threatened), it's automatically gone too far? BTW, I think you're referring to what happened in Jenin, and it was completely blown out of proportion, as the world's media is so anti-Israel. I've seen pictures, and the area that was destroyed was probably about 3% of the entire city. And most of the area destroyed was from the Palestinians anyways-not the Israelis. The Palestinians set traps up (bombs all over the city) so that way, when the Israeli soldiers walk into certain houses, the entire house would collapse on them, or some srot of weapons would injure them. This is what caused most of teh destruction in that city. That's how those 23 Israelis were murdered. BTW, I've seen interviews with some Palestinians who took par tin this, and they didn't consider it a massacre at all. They only said this to the media. To them, the whole thing was a game, in which they were 'hunting' Israelis and trying to kill them. |
What?? I'm actually the only one who thinks Israël shouldn't use that much violence??? You people are weird... Well, I guess it's because you're Americans and you have Bush.

Angrist, I'm actually Canadian, and I have Chretien (who's an absolute moron, I might add, but that's off topic)
Anyways, how is what Israel's doing going too far? What would you do if people came in to your country, and started murdering people who are going about their every day lives in restaurants, discos, and on buses almost daily? |

It would be nearly impossible for Israel to destroy entire towns with tanks and armed persons. It would take at least weeks or so, to destroy an entire town with tanks. Of course they are nuclear capable... that would take nearly minutes. Oh yeah, lets compare what type of situation Europe is compared to the United States and we'll see how good Bush is. If Palestine had the military power that Israel did they would use it without a doubt. But all they have is people blowing themselves up, so that's what they use. Now isn't that sad? |
My point is, they are BOTH SAD! Israel should try to solve the problem politically, not by force. They're not getting anywhere with it. The more Israel attacks the Palastines, the more the Palestines attack back, AND THE OTHER WAY ROUND!
Those people just hate eachother SO much, they'll keep killing eachother until they have what they want. And I'm not saying that the answer to all the problems will be easy, just that violence isn't the way. Amen. |
On a side note, how are the peace talks going?

Do you know why Bin Laden and Al Quaeda attacked The United States on September 11th? It's because over the past 8 months the U.S. has been attacking Afghanistan. Do you know why Hitler murdered so many millions of people? It's because the United Stated and other countries attacked on June 6th, 1944 (D-day). You're basically saying the same thing. The fact of the matter is that Israel has only been retaliating over terrorist attacks. The "Cycle of Violence" is a false term, just concocted by the media. There is no cycle of violence, just like you wouldn't call the storming of Normandy in 1944 as part of a cycle of violence. BTW, Israel has tried to solve the problem politically a million times, but the Palestinians simply won't accept any agreements since Arafat will settle for nothing less than all of Israel, and the destruction of all the Jews. Just look at the Camp David Accords. Former Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Barak offered Arafat 97% of the West Bank, 3% of Israel Proper, AND Jerusalem as its capital. This was by far the single largest offer any nation in the world has ever offered another, yet Arafat still rejected it. This even dates back to the Oslo accords of 1993. Arafat signed a peace agreement with former Israel prime minister Yitzchak Rabin (now deceased), but did Arafat ever keep this peace? No. He's broken practically every single thing on these accords. Let me ask you, what do you expect Israel to do in its situation? It's givent eh Palestinians, land, money, and even plenty of weapons. It's tried diplomacy a million times, and the Palestinians still don't agree to anything, and Arafat continues on his mission to destroy the state of Israel. |
