You pretty much just made this thread not exist for a bunch of people.

I'm sure the people on this website can handle brief language. Nobody needs their hand held.

I'm not worried about current members, I'm worried about the kid trolling through websites.

Its this or I delete it entirely. I thought I was being pretty fair, considering. Next time I'll remove any movie that violates our language rules to avoid any of this rediculous debate.

If that is your stance, you were 3 days late. Just pointing it out.

Re: Nintendo

I think that this swearing thing is bull****.

Besides, it's not our site that has the swearing. It's the site being linked to.

Can we say "This site may contain swear words" or something?

What's the big effing deal abotu swearing anyways?

I can't see GT being liable for anything or getting in trouble.

Has anyone noticed there's porn on the internet? I think mothers would have bigger things to worry about their children stumbling upon than a forum that links to websites with swear words.

Its about having a stand on something and sticking to it. Why bother having rules if you don't enforce them. We don't allow swearing on this forum, and what is considered swearing is regulated by our censor. If you have a problem with that, talk to Neo (I just work here :D). If an outside link is made in a post and that link constains swearing, its still considered swearing on the forum via link. To argue otherwise is just a stab in the dark.

Honestly, if the movie just had the s-word, I would have let it pass, but it had the F-bomb. I like to think we are a PG-13 site at worst. Using the MPAA as a guideline, that would automatically make that movie rated R... for Restricted. So I moved it to a restricted forum. Normally I would have just deleted the damn thing as I have done before without incident with other rule breaking movies and linked content, but seeing as many of you have complained that I am too strict I thought I'd loosen up and just move it. Man, give and inch...

And the reasons for banning swearing are more than just to protect kids and parents, its also to keep the content of the forums on a high level. Allowing swearing tends to lessen the quality of posts and turn sites into mind-numbing cursefests. Why that is, I have no idea, but it seems to be the rule rather than the exception.

And I might have come on this late, but moderating is only a hobby and I can only catch things like this when I have to time and get around to seeing them. I just saw it and I moved it s soon as I did. BTW, I thought it was hilarious and borderline brilliant, but it still violated the rules so action had to be taken.

I hope this explains my and Gametavern's stance on this issue fully. I don't see why the language thing has suddenly become such a hot topic as we have been editing and removing bad language and links to profane material for years. I'm not coming down on anyone or criticizing them for posting the link, I just moved it so that it lined up with our content standards. Thats all.

Sometimes I feel like people just want to complain any time I actually, you know, MODERATE. :D

...it...it just boggles my mind...

*mind boggles*

Isn't everyone here over 13...and don't we ban anyone new who tries to come here anyway? ;) Seems pretty safe.

Probably gazillionth time mentioned but I tutor 5 years olds...who have a vocabulary that would make Richard Pryor squirm in his grave.

Once again, I don't see how this is a shock or surprise to anyone here. Language censors have been used for years here. I don't see what the big deal is... at all.

I was once told that this is a "private" forum, or something of the sort.

So if the forum is private, how is gametavern still liable if little 11 year old Billy from Ontario gets linked via Gametavern to a site that says the F word while he is searching for porn?

I fail to see this. I dont understand it.

I dont know if you've noticed, but the swearing isnt removed. It's just replaced with stars. So we can still formulate what it means, thusly defeating the purpose of cleaning up the forums with no swearing.

Why not ban the words:

Ish, uff, uffin, eff, effing, fudging, and things of that sort. Because we all know they are replacements for swearwords, which, as you have stated, are not meant on the forum.

Frankly (not directed at anyone in specific) I dont understand all this uffin' ish about swearwords not being allowed. I dont think that if we can see them, suddenly we'll exploit that fact. Considering thats mothereffing handicapped. Usually people do things because they cant. So if we can post swearwords and that ish, and be able to clearly see them (opposed to seeing ****, which, still gets to your imagination.) I doubt any of us would take advantage of that more than we already do.

All this ****ing **** is pointless to me anyways. I swear regardless on here if I feel the need.

See, can you tell what swearwords I said in that above sentence? I bet you can decipher it if you're really crafty. I bet you can find out what I'm saying.

Hell, why not just change the stars to empty spaces so that we we have no idea how many characters the word is and what context it's used in?

This uffin' ish is retarded, Peace the eff out of this shizz yo.

I don't know if you noticed, but when the Chappelle Show has swear words, they bleep them out. Yes, you know what they said, that that little bleep is the difference in making it on TV and not making it on TV. They've done the same thing for movies for years as well, having actions replace **** with "fudge" for broadcast TV. And while the censor on blacks out the words, that seems to be anough of a detterent that our forum doesn't delve into a sea of cursing,

Once again, this is nothing new. No idea why its suddenly a big deal. If you have a problem with it, get ahold off Neo or Bond, I just work here.

Seeing how this thread has discussed this topic fully and is no longer even remotely about the movie, its closed. If you want to continue the conversation, start a debate about it in Happy Hour if you really are that upset about not being allowed to cuss.
