i think the cast choice is excellent, although my only concern is the voice acting...i mean, beast has a deep-ish raspy voice (from the cartoons anyway) while Kelsey Grammer does not...as far as i know....maybe i'm wrong.

Sure you're thinking of Beast? Grammer's voice is almost identical to the original X-Men cartoon. I never saw the Evolution show if that's what referring to.

I dunno but when I was watching the original X-Men, Beast had a nice and almost english voice that didn't sound like a 'beast' at all. It was very human, and wasn't raspy. Kelsey's voice is perfect.

I love the casting choice. When not kicking ass, Beast is supposed to be a very reserved, articulate and brilliant man. When kicking ass, the filmmakers will have to pretty much use CG anyway, so why not go with an actor that drips "sophistication"?

Anyway, I still think Brett Ratner will screw this movie up somehow. Those idiots at Fox should have never let the relationaship get so bad that Bryan Singer would up and leave such a successful franchise.

I'm disappointed with the lack of Gambit.

Unfortunately no... it's still very early in the storyline... and way too early for a Phoenix appearance... i dunno why they have HER in there...

but with the appearance of Kitty now, A couple of years from now, Gambit is hired by Magneto... thus bringing him into the story. But I dunno how Phoenix is involved already.

Everything gets sped up in movie time. You have to remember that X-Men has been building a mythos for nearly 40 years. No filmmaker or studio could be expected to catch up to that. So with that said, The Dark Pheonix Saga was one of the greatest storylines in comic history, and it would be silly for Fox not to address it, especially with the series reaching its third movie and how sequels tend to peter-out arond then.

I mean, you could also bitch about how Jean Grey was really killed on the blue area of the moon, but that brings up a whole crapload of other marvel mythos that the writers and director would have to address,

Dark pheonix is enough. We don't need to go into the Inhumans, Uatu the Watcher, the Starjammers and the Shi'ar. That would take another three movies at least.

Much like with LOtR, I simply remind myself that I'm watching a movie, and not a book on film. If you expect changes, you tend to be more forgiving of them and even appreciate them when they are well done and preserve the themes of the original work.

Well it's obvious that the films don't totally follow the X-Men storyline.

If it did, they wouldn't have immediately killed Sabertooth.

I believe I read somewhere that this would be the last X-Men film so the probability of ever seeing Gambit on the big screen is looking bleak.

I do believe however that there will be a Wolverine spin-off movie.

We'll beg them for a Gambit movie. I liked the episode where the guy from the future (... Bishop or the other one?) said Gambit was going to kill the president. :)
