If you stepped on a landmine outside of your front door tomorrow morning, would your first thought aside from the pain be "**** I'm an idiot!" or "what ****ing moron put this landmine here?"

it's different if it happens by accident....but they were playing catch with it...so it is their fault. if the granade blew up when someone accidentally kicked it while walking...then it would be the fault of whoever put it there.

in anycase, i think they are stupid for playing catch with an explosive....oh, and TNT (dynamite i'm assuming...if that's how you spell it) is very dangerous and very unstable. nitroglycerin can explode very easily...it's practically a time bomb without a timer.

Just as a purely hypothetical question, what would you say about kids playing catch with a shiny ball covered in orange plastic?

Because that's what an unexploded bomblet from some cluster bombs looks like.

Funny gow you immediately blame the US or British by name, when its been prodominately other peoples who have been fighting there. And my comment about the land mines was more a comparison to the idea of playing "hot potato" with a grenade than the fact that there are actually land mines there.

These "kids" weren't that young. They were definitely old enough to be able recohnize what a grenade looks like, especially in the war-torn area that they grew up in. They thought it would be fun to thumb their nose in the face of danger, and danger thumbed them right back. Its like blaming a motorist for hitting a kid who knowingly played in traffic.

As for the cluster bombs, I would feel much more for those kids, because those bombs are not widely known by sight to be dangerous weapons. The difference in in the people in question actually knowing what they were doing.

Jesus, I guess this was the wrong time for a little black humor.

Funny how I also said "whoever placed them there".

And they were definately old enough? Were these kids schooled? Its a third world country. I can see if the kids were some sort of scholar for their area, and then yes, they should have known better.

And "They thought it would be fun to thumb their nose in the face of danger"?

Did you talk to these kids? Or are you psychic as to why people do what people do now?

The motorist would still be at fault for not stopping.

Go find a kid in the street and plow him down, and see if you get off scott-free.

No, but as the article said, these kids were in their late teens. I imagine they weren't mentally retarded since the article didn't point that out, so I think they knew what they were doing.

Once agin, you're wrong. If a kid runs in front of a moving car in a section that is not noted for crossing, ITS NOT THE DRIVER'S FAULT. Common sense realizes that a car moving at high speeds cannot stop on a dime whenever some idiot kid decides to run in the middle of a busy road. Maybe it is in Canada, but I doubt it.

Case in point: I working the door at my bar when a woman got hit by a car at night when she was trying to cross a major road in a non-crossing area. She was hit, and killed. I watched her die. It was her fault and the driver was never prosecuted. You can't blame someone for another person's deathwish.

Here's the bottom line: My heart can only bleed so much. I feel bad for all those who dies and had their lives torn apart in hurricane Katrina. I feel for all the innocents that were killed during the bombing of Iraq and Afghanistan. I feel for all of those people who have been hurt by left-over land mines. I feel for everyone in the world who are dying because they don't have enough to eat or money/access to proper medications. I feel for all those who live under opressive regimes and are denied rights and freedoms that we take for granted. The list could go on and on...

Feel bad for couple idiots who thought it would be fun to knowingly play catch with an obvious explosive device? I'll leave that to all of you. I don't have the ****ing time...

The Professor has left the building.

Well, I guess to be totally fair, maybe these kids didn't live in a place as media-saturated as our country is. So then they wouldn't actually know what a grenade looks like or what it does.

Wait, where were they from? Bosnia? As in the Eastern European country/region ripped apart by near constant guerilla warfare?

Ok, so much for that theory...
