I watched Gremlins for the umpteenth time drunk on Swiss beer last night on the tour bus. I love touring sometimes...The two Gremlins movies might be my favorite series of all time.

Re: Last movies you saw

Watchmen for someone who hasn't seen the comic, was OK to me. Nothing really standout, but it wasn't terrible. I know the comic was full of full frontal for Manhattan, and the movie had to stay faithful, but damn the amount of blue penis was a little surprising :p More surprising is that it got away with an R rating and yet everyone freaked over Zack and Miri which had far less frontal.

Though seeing people at midnight IMAX showing dressed up was a little funny. Good times...

Entre Les Murs. 8/10
A French arthouse movie of half a year old, I saw it in cinema. Not so much happens, but it's a great picture of being a teacher in a poor suburb school in Paris. None of the characters were professional actors, but you wouldn't notice.

Good solid movie. Better than I remember.

Girl, Interrupted. 8/10.

Pretty ironic how Winona Ryder asks the audience if they have ever stolen anything even though they had the cash.

Watched The Onion Movie and The Planet last night with Combine.

Onion was pretty funny.

The Planet was just.....ugh. So bad

Lars and the Real Girl. Very good! It's about a not very well adjusted young man who orders one of those "Real Dolls" which is life size and anatomically correct.

I dunno, it was a well done movie. Weird, yet very touching.

Crows ZERO

Japanese movie where the son of a yakuza boss tries to become ruler of his school where apparently no classes take place and no teachers are seen past the first 3 min, and yet everyone goes there everyday just to fight. Fun.

I have two more battle school movies on my to watch list.

Is "Battle School Movies" an official Japanese genre? If so, that's kinda funny.

If it's not it should be. Seems to be a number of them. The two I'm looking for are Korean movies though: Gangster High and Volcano High. Can only find the MTV dubbed version of the latter. :( EDIT: found. :)

Looks awesome.

And just saw the Korean movie 200 Pounds Beauty. Quite enjoyable.

Great movie. Some of the best fight choreography I've seen.

So I got to ask Bond... two things.
1) Why are you just seeing this, I mean your name is BOND!

And two, the DVD/Blu-ray doesn't come out until Tues and its been out of theatres for a while, so how'd you see it?

Good everything. I wish that director did more. Reminded me of Pushing Daisies.

Quantum Of Solace - disappointed with this film and I am a bond fan. Seriously I have been obsessed with bond since I was a kid. I owned all the movies on VideoCasette and I am the mug that went and replaced them all with DVDs. Much preferred the new Casino Royale. Mind you thats been the rule of thumb since Goldeneye. It goes Good Bond Film, Crap Bond Film, Good Bond Film, Crap Bond Film and so on. So I will take 'Solace' (haha) in the fact that the next bond film will be a good one.

Gran Torino - I liked this film, it's great to see the old dog Clint again. Worth a watch.

The other film I watched for the first time recently is a Sean Connery flick called 'Outland' set in a mining colony on Io one of Jupiters Moons. An old film, a great film, definately worth watching, with set pieces that look like they are straight out of Alien or Blade Runner. and Sean says 'Arsehole' which souns funny in a Scottish accent. DEFINATELY check this movie out if you can find a copy. I picked one up for £3 in HMV.

That theory doesn't hold true unless you are claiming that The World is Not Enough is a better movie than Tomorrow Never Dies?

And I think Quantum is a much better movie on a repeat viewing.

I am claiming exactly that, I thought Tomorrow Never Dies was rubbish one of the worst bond films in the whole Genera in fact. I would go so far as to say I would rather watch On Her Majestys Secret Service. I cant really justify this, I just didnt like TND.

Admittedly, yes, I have only seen Quantum the once so on your advice I'll give it another go ;)

Wait now you are making it sound like On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a bad movie when it is one of my favorite Bond movies?

What type of rubbish is this?

No No on the contrary. OHMSS is one of my favourites too. I just used it as an example as it is often viewed as one of the worst bond movies, a view I do not share.

I thought OHMSS was great, you see a whole other side to bond and in the end his wife is murdered, theres so much more emotion and depth in this movie than people give it credit for and I thought George Lazenby made a good bond.

It is a shame that there was never really a follow on from this plot. The day I see a new bond film and he's visiting his late wifes grave at the start before going out for revenge is something I have wanted for time.

There's actully two follow-up, doesn't make them good, but follow-ups nonetheless.

The start of Diamonds are Forever shows him tracking down Blofeld for the death of his wife and killing him, of course you find out later it was a clone or something.

Than the start of one of Moore's movies, I believe For Your Eyes Only, has him visiting his wife's grave at the start only for him to be attacked by Blofeld who he finally does kill.

I find TWINE to be so so boring. It really isn't a bad Bond, just not a very eventful one.

I mean at least TND had some pretty cool chases, and a hot Bond chick. (yeah digging on Asians is overdone, but I also like Mrs. Hatcher)

And a hackeyed media moguel as a villain was different.

KillerGremlin 03-23-2009 02:50 PM

Re: Last movies you saw

BaB I know you prefer TND because of your nerd crush on Terri Hatcher....

I'm all about this though:

TWINE was the last movie with Q....it also brought back skiing in style, a less used Bond chase. It had a pretty lame villain...by the point TWINE came out the angry, deformed bald guy hellbent on world control was kind of a tried idea.

However, like your Terri Hatcher fetish...I have a Denise Richards thing.

KillerGremlin 03-23-2009 02:51 PM

Re: Last movies you saw

I will say Tomorrow Never Dies did have a stimulating motorcycle chase. I'm not really attracted to the Asian chick. But I'm really picky with my Asian women.

No Country For Old Men

Liked the bad guy and the awkward/disturbing funny moments. I can just imagine that if they sped everything up to an average pace it wouldn't have received the same recognition it did. Did have some pretty shots...but have trouble seeing why it won best pic for that year. (Of course I didn't see any of the other nominees aside from Juno...which I hated.)

I was just kidding about the spoiler thing. Although I've never known those facts, I wasn't really angry about the info :)

I would also love to watch all the Bond movies, but I find it pretty impossible. I probably can't sit through 40 movies.. :)

Re: Last movies you saw

I saw The Dark Knight. 7/10.

I don't see what the big fuss was about. The Joker was a pretty good villain, but the rest of the movie wasn't half as good as Batman Begins.

Halfway through I thought "Ugh, there's still more than an hour left, boring!"

So can the fans explain what they like about it so much?

Anyway, I had feverish dreams of Batman... there were 30 of them and I had to find out which one was real. I hardly slept tonight. :( I'm a bit ill, so that's why.

I'm happy for you... since you would only need to sit through 22 movies :p

Speaking of Bond, I just watched Quantum of Solace on blu-ray and I think its really does benefit from repeated viewings.
I think the thing with Quantum is a lot of the emotional crux is dependant on Casino Royale and with a 2 year gap in between the movies, it is easy to forget some minor details.
Like when Bond is on the plane drowning his sorrows in booze, he is of course drinking the Vesper, the drink he made up in Casino Royale.
Minor detail, but much more meaningful if you get the underlying tone.

It's ok mate. You just touched a nerve is all. I normally take it in my stride but just got a little cross is all. I should have remembered as you rightly said, it's something of an American mannerism.

Anyway, I just read something about The Dark Knight. I really didnt like this film, in fact it is the only film I have ever fallen asleep watching at the cinema. And that dude who killed himselves portrayal of the Joker. Nothing special in my opinion. Not worthy of the praise it was given.

Hah, another person not impressed by The Dark Knight. In the last few days I thought I was going crazy.

Oh and I thought the Joker was best in the parts where we was just being funny.
