Fresh off Gamespot's rumor thing

RUMOR #1: Half-Life 2 is gold. Really. No foolin'. Honest.

Source: If we told you, we'd have to kill you.

The official story: Both VU Games and Valve declined comment.

What we heard: Ever since the release candidate for Half-Life 2 was submitted to VU Games in mid-September, a piņata has hung in the lobby of Valve's headquarters. The plan: to bust the sucker open when the game achieved gold status. Earlier today, GameSpot learned from an informed sourced that "the piņata has been broken" and the game has gone gold. Further evidence of the game's completion was a press release issued this afternoon touting the first review of "the entire game." Though nothing official has been announced yet, it appears the fat lady is at last clearing her throat.

Bogus or not bogus?: Not bogus.

*Refrains from a possible creaming in pants* I hope this becomes true as it sounds very reliable. Here's hoping! :D

No kidding...now I just wish we'd get a damn release date...that and I hope they tell us for sure if the retail version is going to be released the same day as the Steam offers, because otherwise im cancelling my pre-order.

I am confused as to what I should get...

I'm assuming if you buy the steam version, there will be a way to re-install it if it somehow gets corrupted or you reformat your computer, correct? Because if you can, screw the 80 dollar retail collector's version (with the T-shirt that is too big for me, and the art booklet I don't want), I'm going for the 60 dollar Steam Silver version (I really want that Half-Life: Source)...

But if for some reason you can't, I want the DVD...

You can backup the Steam folder to a couple of DVD's and when you reinstall steam, just copy the files back in.

I really don't like the fact that neither Valve and VU are not commenting on it. I can only hope that it really is coming out this time. I'll probably just get the bronze version, I don't need that extra crap.
