Does anyone subscribe to and/or regularly purchase comics from a certain series? I was thinking of subscribing to one or two from Marvel or DC, and I was wanting an idea of what's good right now and what's not.
I'm really interested in some Batman or Xmen or both, but there are SEVERAL different series of them. I think I counted 8 xmen series...such as "ultimate" or "uncanny". And I found a few different Batman ones, but I dont really know the difference between them. :\

There's a really popular 7 partseries right now kind of starring all the super heroes called, "Identity Crisis." It's different from the normal series because the creator puts the heroes in situations they're unable to save or do anything for. Like having the heroes wife die, some comic book fans like it and others don't like it. You'd have to sample one I guess.
Here's an article CNN did on the series: http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/books/09/11/superhero.suffering.ap/index.html

I dont know about new ones, but when i was like, 8-12 or something like that, I was into Spawn comics. My dad would always buy them for me. I have no idea where they are now though. Hmmmmm.....
I dont know, i dont pay attaention to magazines anymore, thinking abiout it, they are slightly pointless. Unless you are buying the ones from the 50's that actually are worth something.
All (Most) comics now are stunningly gorgous, and that sickens me. They look too cluttered if you read them, there is too much going on. Take me back to the old Archie comics thank you very much. ;)
But dont spend your money on comics, i know you probably really like them, but invest it in something else.

You've insulted my card games and my comic books. Investing in comics is just as pointless as investing in video games...what matters is that I enjoy both of them.
Thanks for the link, GM. :D I'm heading to my local comic book store sometime this week, and I'm thinking about buying the series known as "Pain of the Gods", which is about the Justice League of America (JLA)...the twist is that they fail.

The Batman series also has an interesting series going on called "War Games".

What I've decided to do is check out all the different series at my comic book store and decide what I like the best.

I went to my comics store today and something awesome happened.
I walked into the store which was vacant, no one in it except for the guy working there, who was sitting at a table in the middle of the store going through his Magic cards. He wasnt your avarage magic player either...He looked like a jock. He asked me if he could help me with anything, and I was like "I'm interested in getting back into comics. I used to buy them all the time as a kid."
It turns out that a week ago he had just gotten back into comics, so he knew all about the comic series that were just starting out, and he introduced me to a few he was getting into. We talked for about an hour while I was in there, about comics and cards and such. I bought the comic novel "Batman: The Dark Night Returns" for 15 bucks. This is the novel in which batman beats superman. I also bought the first issue of "Batman: War Games", because it was only 12 cents.
The guy and I became friends very quickly, and we talked about other things like school and working on projects in photoshop. Customers at the store have an option of paying 5 bucks a month, and they can "subscribe" to a comic series. Which means any comic they buy from that series they get a free wrapper and backboard, and arent charged tax on it. The guy is now letting me use his "folder" at the store that he keeps all the comics he's interested in. So now I get all the benefits, but dont pay a fee. I subscribed to "Uncanny Xmen" but am considering changing it to just plain "X Men". I'm going to subscribe to a couple others too, but havnt decided what yet.
Overall, a good ending to an already good day.
And GM, I saw that series you posted, and will probably get the first book next time I go.

I went back to the comic store yesterday and bought the first issue of a new series, called "Fathom". It's not your normal run of the mill super hero comic. I'm loving it so far. I scanned my copy of it.

The only comics I read these days are things done by Daniel Clowes because he is amazing...
For example: Eightball http://i.timeinc.net/time/daily/2002/0201/eightball0108.jpg
or Ghost World
