I got my key when it was a closed application at first. I'm giving it a try to see how it is and see if I like it or not. I'm a person who just can't stand MMORPG's. The only 2 I have ever liked are PSO and City of Heroes (currently playing CoH still) so if this can't grab my attention, then I'm not touching it again.
But hey, a free week to test is good enough to form my own opinion.

Well, what I meant by closed beta was that when fileplanet limited it to only subscribers, I signed up to guarantee a key for the 7 day stress test.
downloaded the game over night. didnt know it was an over 2gig download. lol.
dunno how long it took. but i think it went pretty fast *hugs comcast*
but, gotta wait now till i get home from work to try the game out. *looks at clock, taps his foot...*

yea. im betting mine was quite comparable. it was going at a bit over 700k/sec when i started last night. when i looked this morning it was at about 590k/sec as the last recorded bit sent. it just didnt say the total time it took. or at least i didnt see it before i closed the window.

Not sure if I will get WoW. I was interested in it for a while but after FFXI I'm not sure if I want to get into another MMORPG.

LOL, FFXI is starting to sound like a tragic experience, not a fun game. :D

I really like the idea of WoW, but I don't have the time to play it. And I don't want to spend the money on it.
Yeah of course, you get a lot of fun for that money, but once I start playing it... it's addicting and I don't want to be addicted.
I'll check out the open bèta tough. :D Hopefully that'll last for some weeks.....
Does anyone know how much the montly fee on this will be?
or whats the average price of these types of games per month? like everquest, star wars galaxies, FFXI, etc.

$10 -$13
Something like that.
yay I actually helped Null for a change :D

Most MMORPG's now are going to be $15 a month so thats the likely price.
sad thing really. so over priced its amazing.
All they'd need is a few $ from everyone, i'd say like 5 a month and that would be well more then enough for them to maintain the servers and keep a profit. They really limit thier userbase by making it so costly. They're making out like bandits when they have a price of 10 or more per person per month.

You try to maintain those huge servers with a nearly constant uptime for only a few dollars from your customers. Engineers, maintenance, salary, etc..For my $15 a month to Cryptic for City of Heroes, I get a big update every 2-3 months (every 2 so far), uptime is pretty good (I have yet ot see the servers crash, except for the Test server which has updates before they go live and server can get unstable but thats what testing is for before it hits the live servers). Plus, the devs are awesome in CoH because they actually read the forums and listen to its customers and make changes accordingly.
So my $15 a month is well deserved for a great game. And future games will be $15 a month also because of the massive servers to maintain and whatnot. They aren't cheap Null.
im not sayin they're cheap. but all the people in the world that buy and play these games, $15 each from them every month? you do the math, We'll just say they arent ever going to have a money problem for a long long time.
What im saying is, they could do it at a much cheaper price and still make a nice profit after spending the costs on the servers.
BTW, Stress testing beta hasnt even started yet? i installed the game this afternoon, only to find i have to wait untill it begins to sign a name up. =/ i wanted to play now damnit!

I love it. MMPORGS have never been able to capture me, and this one has me enthralled.
It was able to grab me because the options you have to choose for your character in the very beginning are minimal, unlike most games like this where you have to decide a million options when you barely know how attributes like "Mind" are going to affect anything you do. In WoW, all special talents are chosen as you go along (and there are loads), while most attributes mean something to me.
(I haven't played CoH, so it may be similar.)
I also like the Warcraft universe, and know some of the recent backstory and how different races interweave. So that helps a lot. :)

Gheh, that's what Blizzard's trying to do, very playable for everybody. I will also love this game, but I'm afraid that it will devour my time and money. :(

CoH is kind of along those lines. You start by choosing your origin (not a big thing that matters in game except what enemies you face in the beginning of the game) then choose your primary and secondary powersets and choose your first powers, then you make your character in the best character creator ever for an MMORPG and then from there your in game and when you level, you choose what powers you want. It's a fairly simple process to do.
I must admit, its grown on me quite a bit from before. once i started understanding it it became quite fun.
Mana, you in the stress test? what race/server/ name are you? perhaps i can visit ya before the test ends if your there.
From what i've heard from people on CoH tho, is that the missions/quests get quite repetitive, but i dunno cuz i never played.
Jonbo298

The missions are repetitive but every MMORPG is repetitive. Quests or whatever in other MMORPG's are the same basis. Kill things. Kill more things. Kill those things. So its not just CoH that is repetitive ;)

Race: Night Elf Druid
Server: Malygos
Name: Vorbis
I should of asked where people were before I made my character and leveled him up a bunch. Ah well, maybe we'll get lucky.
By the way, I'm level 12 and able to get to the main continent for the human/elf/etc. side.

So the Stress Test has finally ended.
How did we feel about this massive life drain?
I, for one, am damn glad it's over. I will not be buying WoW, and I willing not be paying monthly fees for WoW.
Not that I didn't like it, I loved it. But I try to keep my level of addicitions low, at only three addictions a year.
Kidding aside.. no wait, I'm not kidding. It's an extreme addiction! Now it's over and I can get back to sleeping.
