Miyamoto supports emulation

Some of those early games, many from the company's original Nintendo Entertainment System, have shown up on the Internet as small data files that can be downloaded and played, in substantially their original format, with programs called "emulators."

While the emulators are legal, the games themselves are not unless the user physically owns the actual game cartridge, and Nintendo has actively opposed the trade in those files.

"I'm actually very grateful that people still find such fun and entertainment in those games," Miyamoto said.

Many of the people who first played those games as children are now grown, and Miyamoto said Nintendo is focusing more than ever on producing games for all age groups.

"We don't think in terms of younger gamers versus older gamers," Miyamoto said. "I still think the best policy is to focus on these games that have a wider appeal."

While Nintendo is opposed to it, Miyamoto gets all giddy knowing his old games are still being enjoyed.

That's cool that Miyamoto supports emulation. It doesn't hurt Nintendo financially, because I'm sure if these people couldn't download them, they wouldn't play them at all. Classic games are good for hiding in a new game like how Shenmue, Donkey Kong 64, and Animal Forest do it.

does not say, 'I support emulators and roms' it says 'I am proud that people still want to play old games and admire my old work.

Sorry mate but you appear to have misunderstood what he is trying to say, and to me this is great news as it means we may/will see older games being re-released. And it also kinda enhances the probability of Cyrax's hopes and ideas (see thread in this forum) becoming a reality.

I am an A-Level Media Studies student and have studied the subject for 4 years, my mind is traind to analyse texts and this is what miyamoto is saying to me, if you disagree then, well thats your problem, I am telling you my opinion I didnt say Danchastu was wrong, I said he appers to have misunderstood.

Emulation is the only way I can play Dragon Warrior V & VI. They were never released in the US and I have no problem with playing the translated roms.

Ok Ric, and how does Shiggy expect people to play his old games? Buy them? The only place possible would be ebay or something of the like. And nor did he say he was against emulation. Plus if you've read most of his interviews you'd notice he never gives straight answers but implies to such a degree it leaves you wondering a bit.

Really? My qualifications suggest otherwise and I am now studying the subject to a higher degree. And yes I am an exert upon the subject, I exert my opinions upon it. Now stop getting pissed off because I did not say you were wrong.

And I know he didnt say he was against it, but as the subject was, 'miyamoto supports emulation' I did not feel in the circumstance, that it was necessecry to say he wasnt against it. Although, on reflection of the matter perhaps I should have.

Look at the way he answers questions:

You know that there will be black pikmin but not if they'll make an appearence in a purely Pikmin game. The next game may be another Pikmin title but with gameplay completely changed around. Most of his answers are open-ended.

Now does that sound like he's against emulation? He's saying he's not against it by explaining how he likes that people still play his old games. Miyamoto answers everything without giving a straight exact answer, yet you know what he's implying.

Yes I do, he is implying that he likes the fact that people still play and find enjoyment in his old games. Not that he supports emulation.

Aaaanyways... I don't care if he supports it or not... I still have an NES that's in faaaaiiiirly good working condition, and I prefer a controller over a keyboard... so if there's a game I really really wanna play I try to get it from a trade off ugtz.com...

But hell, it seems like nowadays whenever I try to find a good working emulation site I never can :mad2:
