After 4 years of following this game, I can honestly say that I am a little disappointed, but not as much as others will be. I realized quite a while ago (about a year ago really) that Fable would not be what it originally set out to be. It still got great scores, just not "greatest of all time" scores. I will enjoy this game SOOOO much though, but for what it is and not for what it could have been. A lot of the reviews are judged on what it was supposed to be so I'm mad at that. Fable still changes the RPG genre, which I love, so it's all good.

Oh, and PM, Gradius, Sam, Dene, and Simon can all go to hell. One thing I thought would never change would be the story, but thanks for lying and keeping the facts from me and the rest of the Fable community......****ers.

I'm just mad really ;)

This is about what I expected. You have to realize this is what Peter Molyneux does, he takes ambitious goals that can't logically be reached and does his best. It's a lot more brave than making rehashes and sequels.

EDIT: Yes! They included the Sandgoose!

Well, I'll just have to wait for Fable 2 then :)

I'm jealous of everyone who never knew about Fable until about a month ago. They have nothing to compare the final product to which will easily let them enjoy Fable sooo much more than me. I hope you guy's love this game, I know I still will.

This is about what I thought Fable would get, too. The story has always been the contentious element of this game and honestly Molyneaux (sp?) games almost have NO story besides the one that you create. I actually find this liberating, but I can see how others who love great stories in their RPGs woulkd find this a serious drawback.

For a sequel I would like to see a bigger game with the same features. Mke a more free roaming world (smaller than morrowind but bigger than KOTOR) with more quests.

But in the end I think the draw of this game will be your character reacting with the living world. I plan on experimenting endlessly with the economic system and good and evil. Just think about the possibilities... Good Mage, Evil Mage, Neutral Mage, Good Warrior, Bad Warrior, Neutral Warrior, Good Thief, Bad Thief Neutral Thief... get married, be failthful, be unfaithful, kill her, get a new one, cheat on here with her sister, kill her... you get my point :)

Well its under a half a month left before I lose myself to this game as an axe weilding evil bastard (and then a sick ass mage), but I've waited so long a few more days won't bother me much.

Those are going to be some of the better scores.

I still think while the game doesnt look as gorgeous as previously anticapated and described, it's probably gonna make up for that with the gameplay and wideness of it all.

The Intro Movie (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/rpg/fable/media.html?gcst=fable_x827tr.asx) of fable is titled Gameplay Footage 3 and is on the bottom of the page. It got me all excited and such.

(smaller than morrowind but bigger than KOTOR)Morrowind really wasn't that large... it was just that you were so rediciously slow. ;)
...... ok gotta admit, it was large. Lots of things to do....
OK I take back what I said about it not being that large. :p

haha, 9.3, yeah, what a sh*tty score.

Like I said before, Wind Waker all over again. Can't wait to have a good laugh over at the IGN boards.

Its not that its a bad game Darkmaster, its just that a lot of the features that got people really excited aren't in it anymore. Too much Hype was created over it, and in consequence when the hype was not all completely true, people get pissed. But even without all the features that were taken out its still an excellent game.

so anyways, is it on storeshelves yet?

Nono, The Wind Waker had ANTI-hype.... and it turned out to be not that bad. :p

Thats hardly an explanation, more of a prognostication. As for Gamespot, they think its their job to score everything lower than IGN so thats not exactly a difficult guess. I've never heard of 1up.com, but I'll check them out now.

I'm waiting more for Gamespy's verdict as I trust them more than pretty much everyone else, but thats just my personal bias.

Anyway you slice it I'm going to be playing this game a LOT come Sept. 14th.

I thought my post pretty well implied all that, what with the  and all. I know it's not a bad game, and it was hyped up to the ass, and all that. My point was, I thought a 9.3 was a great score, but just like Wind Waker, which got a 9.6 instead of everyone's expected 9.9-10.0, people begin to go berserk and say a lot of stupid sh*t, i.e. ign boards.

Don't give me that, you can't tell me a ZELDA game had anti-hype. Lots of people were bullsh*tting about the graphics, but everyone was looking forward to it. First Zelda on GCN, you can't tell me it wasn't hyped up to all hell.

Depends on who you look at. Some people hyped it up (namely objective and mature game players that understood the market) and others didn't (the standard game players that bitched about the graphics.

I'm not denying that it was hyped. I'm just saying that it kind of depended who you were looking at.

I've never heard of 1up.com

Neither have I, but have you seen those kids wearing 1up shirts? The ones with the green shrooms reminiscent of the days Nintendo was moreso competition than a dying grandfather.

No Nintendo site will give Fable a good review, for this you should believe Dyne. And what I've seen of Dyne's previous posts, surely he's the best at knowing the fan-at ways of the Nintenders (those who tend the dying Nin)

What are you talking about? What Nintendo site is going to be reviewing Fable in the first place? If you're just talking about the fact that Nintendo oriented journalists are going to talk bad about it, then I honestly think that's like saying some people don't like vegetables. I mean seriously. Lots of journalists/gamers are pumped for Fable whether they own a GameCube or an Xbox. I'm a much bigger GC fan than I am Xbox, but I'm still stoked for Fable (and any other good release on the Xbox). Most of the sites you refer to are probably run by a 13 year old kid with his daddy paying the bandwidth. In which case, the people reading them are usually the same type of people. So ignore them.

I mean come on. Your whole arguement is based on the assumption that every Nintendo fan is completely biased and unwilling to see that there are other systems with good games. And that's a pretty weak arguement.

There are a lot of very open-minded Nintendo fans that are only invisible to those who are too close-minded to see them.

Isn't 1up.com somehow affiliated with EGM? They always mention it in the magazine...

1UP is owned by Ziff Davis, who also owns EGM.

The fact that a game that started off this ambitious was even released, let alone not turned into a monumental cluster****, is something far more than anyone could have reasonably expected.

The fact that it's still earning 9's is one of the greatest upsets in video game history.

and still, nobody's going to play it, because it's forever doomed to xbox, the greatest system that nobody loved.

How many people here are even getting the game? All I know is myself, DM, Strangler, Bond, SC (?), Acebot (?). The game is just a little over two weeks away. I can't wait, regardless of it's review scores.

We should make some kind of sticky or main thread for Fable impressions and stories when the game comes out. That'll be fun.

"Apparently a reliable user over at GameFAQs was able to test out Fable at PAX yesterday.

Needless to say, with over 300 posts in an hour (and counting), the poster is being heralded as the second coming of Christ.

In a nutshell, he asked the Microsoft rep a variety of question concerning the cuts to the game, as well as things mentioned in the review. Apparently, IGN and Team Xbox were less than accurate about some parts of the game (quest length, Will usage aging you too fast etc.)

Here's the Q&A from his first (of many) posts in the topic

Q: do the review vials make the game too easy or make it hard to get killed?
A: no not really, the vials do restore you to full health, but they are rare and expensive.

Q:in the ign review they said there were only 30 quests from the guild and then thats it is this true?
A: hmm 30?....that seems really low... and yes at the end of the game there are no more quests from the guild but there are many NPC-given quests.

Q:Ign said in their review that the game was only 20 hours, 20-25 if rushed.
A: well you maybe could beat it in 25 hours if you knew everything and rushed along, but when i played though it and i got all the secrets and everything it took me about 80 hours.

a warning: this pissed me off quite a bit
Q: was the reason for the cuts because of the limitations of the xbox, or because they wanted to get it (the game) out?
A: because they had to get it out, the people in marketing say" it must be out then" and the developers have to cut it where it is and hope for the best.

Q: are there dragons?
A: no.

Q:why is everything fenced off now?
A: because we found that it took away from the experience of the game because you did not get lost a lot when you go town to town.
Q: so does that mean we can't get lost in woods like sam?
A: yes.
Q: awwww

Q: How much does magic use age the body? Ign said that if you played for 20 game days using magic heavily that you would reach 65.
A: no not really, if you were to use nothing but magic for the entire span of the 20 days you might but i don't think so, and if you just use a little magic for fights then it won't make you age like crazy. i had a character you used magic in combat but not primarily and he was still youngish looking and had a full head of blond hair.

Q:if you go bald from magic use can you go to a barber and get a full head of hair?
A: Yes.

Q: do horns limit helmet choices?
A: no, if you want people to think you are good then you can hide the horns under a helmet.

Q: are there any expressions for going to the bathroom?
A: you mean like peeing? no but you can fart and...(i stopped him because i knew about the expressions)

Q: is there any point to sex? besides the gifts?
A: yes.

Q: you know i can take all the cuts but why do you have to start a mission over if you fail?
A: i think it's a bad idea too. but the reason they did that was for the story, so you would not be screwed on the main quest if a key character died."

I actually thought that it was probably the most appropriate use of that emoticon... ever. ;)

And Acebot, nice find but I wouldn't trust what reps say completely. He is a marketing guy (I guarantee it) and coming from a business background marketing guys spend more time learning how to bull**** than actually learning about the game they are marketing.

I was just at PAX. I played it for an hour, if not more. I beat the Earth Gnome and I suppose that's really far in.

I do love it. I haven't dissed it once in this thread... why the hell are you guys making assumptions about me? Stop the damn damage control. I know for a fact some website reviewers won't like it, and IGNXbox and TeamXbox are, well... the most "fanboy"istic sites on Xbox out there.

Professor S

Exactly, I only asked you to explain YOUR assumption about the TXB and IGn scores. Thats it. Anything else you've placed squarely on yourself.

As for damage control, how do we need to do damage control on a game that has received nothing but excellent scores? That makes no sense. Sounds like we're not the ones doing damage control here...

I am glad to hear you love the game, though. It makes me even more excited to finally get my hands on it.
