The Road Not Taken

The following thread has been encouraged by my poetry loving English teacher.

The title of this thread is taken from a poem (atleast I hope that is the title of the poem. Can't find my English textbook right now to confirm) written by Robert Frost. The poem deals with a man at a crossroads trying to make a decision as to which road to take.

Anyhow this isn't really a discussion on the poem or else it would be in the Writer's Guild forum.

It's more of a moral question I guess.

If you had a choice in life to go with either:
a)A choice that will lead you to a result easily and you wouldn't have to do work for it.

b)Or a path which is a bit more difficult but shows that you are willing to work for what you get.

I don't know..Always pride myself on being one lazy SOB, but I also always prided myself on my own work and personal achievements. Even though, I might be in a minority. I would prefer to work for anything I get in life even if it means giving up an easier road.

If I can get the same results in life with either working hard or being given everything, why work hard for it? I mean, You could get to where you are with being lazy, so you have time to do other things in your life.

Working for things gives personal satisfaction... But, I just do not see why extra effort is needed if you wind up in the same place.

Would the harder road get you the same results or even better ones? I would take the harder road in hopes of getting better results.

I would go straight, hence making my own road and acomplishing the things i want to. :D or I would take the easy route. :D

I'd do something inbetween the two. I wouldn't want to be so commited to achieving a goal that I wouldn't have time to play video games or go online, but I also wouldn't want to be a lazy bum who never did any of his school work and never had any goals in life.

I'm sorry, I just don't like your responce to this thread. Just because someone is hard working, has some self pride, and takes value in the life they've been given doesn't mean they're dumb. Maybe you weren't implying that but it sounds like it. Do you take some sort of pride in letting everyone know you're gonna sh!t you're sorry *** through life? Is that smart, no. It's lazy and sad. Someone like myself should have your life but yet it is wasted. :(

Calm down, buddy. Chris has his opinion, and you have yours. I really do not think that this arguement is going to go anywhere so you should drop it.

And maybe he likes sitting on his ass. It is alot better than trying, IMO.

But, working gives you a crap feeling while you are doing the work. But in the end it pays off. I think the true question here is do you want to work all your life and be satisfied in the end? Or be lazy all your life and feel however you feel?

Well, if you're lazy, you do no work, you only do what you want all day, it eventually comes boring.

If you work, do your best, and in the end get some satisfying results, you enjoy more your free time, and all that comes with it.

Joeiss is right, the real question is, would you rather:

Do you want to work all your life and be satisfied in the end? Or be lazy all your life and feel however you feel?

I'd choose the first because you know you've earned it when you get it, unlike the other.

I would take the easy route, I'm fine with being lazy, and I wouldn't feel any worse that I was successful doing less work becuase I wouldn't even know that there was another option.
