Well, I have the new Demo can say that it is VERY good. I don't know if its great yet, as I'm not sure if the changes that were made are necessarily bad, or just different and I'm not used to them yet. I can say that the game plays a lot faster (not something I usually like in simulations) but it may just be more realistic that way.

The graphics are a true victory of coding, also. I don't have a serious machine. It has a 2.4 Pentium, 512 of Ram and a 256 ATI card. I first tried the game on the medium setting for everything. It looked pretty good but a little messy due to there being no anti-aliasing . The game ran perfectly. So next I cranked up EVERYTHING to the top spot, and guess what? It still runs without a hitch and is positively stunning. Considering the level of detail on each individual unit and the fact that there are literally THOUSANDS of them on the screen at any time, this is a borderline miracle of design.

There is one thing I can say with definity: War Elepants RULE. Seeing them tear into the lines of the enemy and seeing them fly into the air is something to behold. The part that both angered me and amazed me was that when my elephant riders were killed, the elephants didn't just flee backwards and start killing my own troops and then eventually gather themselves... THEY RAN AMOK... there literally is a little icon over your unit that TELLS you they've run amok. That basically means that they are going to run around and kill ANYTHING THEY SEE. Soo damn cool. :D

Is the game out yet? or just the demo?

I saw screens of it, and i havent played other Total War games, but I love stuff about Roman wars, any ancient war game ( AOE, EE, etc.) i love. I will hopefully be buying this game. It looks like a fun way to pass some time.

EA Games has the release date as Sept. 22nd, but the developers will only say that the release will happen this Fall. If I were you I would pick up either Shogun: Total War or Medeival: Total war and give them a shot before buying Rome. These games are not everyone's cup of tea as the turn based "Risk" style resource and province management can be tedious and ruin the fun of the chaotic real time battles for some people.

I played around with the demo a bit. Graphics are very nice and my machine didn't hiccup with everything at max (including AA). I also took the time to uncheck synchronize aminations (or something like that) so it feels more real.

I played the demo...in fact...im still playing the demo. Ive played it like 50 times, and im becoming good at that one battle.

I know the demo only shows you the battle part of the game, and not the movement part, and not the building, but it reminds me of my old days hanging out with my buddy playing Conquest. ( which is an awesome game, if anyone can find me a downloadable free version, i would be ever in your debt.)

But does this game support online play?

If so, Strangler, i challenge you.

If not....im still buying it.

EDIT: And Strangler, im all into games like this, i wanted it as soon as i read about it. I made a thread about it a month or two ago. :)

I love games like this, that have big battles, but also take alot of strategy. Games like AOE, AOE 2, Civ 3, Conquest , EE. I love them all. :)

EDIT EDIT : Yes, Canya, That is the game i mean, now go my minion, find me the game for free!!!
