Well, I just finished watching the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympic games in Athens, Greece. I really enjoy the thought behind the olympics although there are really only 2 events I usually watch (gymnastics in the summer, figure skating in the winter). I love the idea of all the different nations coming together in peaceful competition.
Anyone else's thoughts? What do you all watch on the olympics?

That opening ceremony sure was something. The parade of nations is just about to start for me.
I usually only watch Basketball and everything else is just a matter of if I catch it while flipping through channels. Maybe I'll try to catch the long jump or volleyball...do they have volleyball?

Olyimpics aren't all that much fun to watch. I'll watch some hoops, some 100m dash, some soccer, and that's about it. Nothing else intrigues me too much unless NBC tells me that I should be intrigued by it, then I'll pay attention.

I liked the lighting of the torch this year, it was pretty cool..I won't say what it was since some people haven't seen it. It's always different every year. Anyway...I'll be watching practically and Track and Field event. Hurdles more than anything, and Pole Vault. Woo, I love the Olympics.

What about Iraq getting the biggest ( i think, aside from greece) ovation at the walk-in or whatever it is.

I just remembered that my 9th grade Biology teacher (whose in charge of our marathon team) and the captain of my schools marathon team are in Greece right now thanks to SRLA (students run LA) giving them full payed everything to go to the olympics.

I think my favorite part of the opening ceremony is always when the torch comes in.
I'll probably catch some of the bball too and soccer. But I really only make an extra effort to watch gymnastics.

I'm pretty sure the American team lost really early in qualifying and hence didn't make it to the games. It was a big deal a couple of years ago or whenever it happened, but everyone sort of forgot about it.

Yao Ming was marching proudly for the Chinese team last night, he'll be playing basketball for them. He was also in a McDonalds/Olympicm sponsor commercial. Geez, he's becoming a star.

Ming said that if the Chinese team doesnt make it to the quarter finals, he'll grow a beard till they win.

I didn't know cricket was one of the events (shows how much I know)
and oh my gosh!! Ming is sooo tall. I would probably only come up to his knees.
I was just watching the men's gymnastics a little while ago and the Romanian team was up. They looked ok (not amazing, but not bad) but there seemed to be some animosity against them. Pretty interesting

I was watching the synchonized diving event. That was pretty cool.

I saw that too Dylflon, it was pretty cool. It must be difficult to do the same exact thing as someone else..especially when you're being controlled by gravity.
I also watched Fencing and I think it's a joke. They fight till someone gets hit, and it usually takes like one second. Then the first to get 15 hits wins. They should just keep fighting till someone gets 15 hits in my opinion. The guy I saw fighting kept jumping up and down after he hit the guy, it he looked too excited. I thought fencing was a more proper sport lol.

Did you know that fast walking is an event? you have to race while walking your fastest, and if you run you get disqualified.

Synchronized diving is my favourite so far... well, besides the women's beach volleyball.

My favourite so far is boxing. Its different though.
Both fighters have white marks on the gloves, and whenever they hit the opponent the get 1 point. The person with the most points at the end of the fight wins.
