As we all know two of the major games companies are both releasing new handhelds. So which would you rather buy. Nintendo's DS or Sony's PSP.

DS. Thats all I'm saying.

PSP. I've heard of some pretty sweet games coming out for it.

Well obviously our fellow Nintendo fans will buy the DS. Personally I'd go with the PSP, but if I had the money, I'd buy both. :P

I wouldn't mind having both but my first choice was said above.

I probably won't buy either, but if I were to buy one, it would be the PSP.

ds without a doubt.... i am getting sick of playing the same games over and over... plus i'd like to see the gaming world head into a new direction. i love the concept.

i'll probably eventually get both, after the PSP have "proven" itself. but i'm not going to get it for the games announced yet. none seem that great so far. yes, to me, none seem so wonderful.

but i'd buy the ds for mario 64 by 4 alone.

(halo, the only game i play on xbox, what's the difference?)

Touche. I'm not interested in a Metal Gear RPG, but Mario 64 was one of the funnest games I ever played. I'll take Mario 64 over any Sony product anyday. And, think about Zelda. Yes, I know, exciting isn't it.

Halo is amazing. (Can't wait for Halo 2. *giggles*) I don't think we'll see Halo on the DS or PSP, but it would be cool if we did. And heck, maybe we'd see it on the DS, seeing as how there is a Halo in developement for the GBA.

Im not going to buy either, because frankly handhelds dont really get my rocks off, but if i had to pick one of them, it would be the PSP. But if i wanted one, i would undoubtedly get the other.

With the launch of the PSP and DS 2D gaming will officially be dead. The GBA has helped keep 2D gaming alive, but after Nintendo admits that the DS is actually the GBA2 (Come on, Nintendo can't support two handhelds at once), we won't be seeing to many more 2D games. I'm going to miss the days of Mario Brothers 3 and Castlevania.

Screw the PSP, really. Battery life is just looking to screw us all, and really.. it's too big to be portable.

I want DS for one thing: Animal Crossing. Oh god, that's going to be sex. And all the other 119 games for it are going to be good.

Alright.

Im sold.

Blame Dyne for it.

After talking to him, im pretty convinced i want a DS.

Fun, it's another one of these. I'm not into portables anymore though. I could get higher quality games and still save money. I don't buy many games anymore.

But, I do like these threads. These are the classic threads. Threads that separate the fanboys from the spectators. Lookie, a fanboy!

DS.
I care more for innovative play than for purty graphics.
And pictochat is going to be awesome  I hope they include it with every DS sold!! À la Tetris!

The DS.

There is no other (maybe just the Next GameBoy ;))

Probably neither off of launch, but when I do buy one of them, it'll be the DS.

Why?

We'll, I've complained about the PSP's size before: it's huge.

I'm also too interested in the dual screen/touch screen wireless internet thingy to pay much attention to the PSP.

I'll give my opinion on this.
I'll choose DS right now for a few reasons:
It will probably be cheaper
Some games catch my attention
and the PSP is really more of a media system than anything else. I really don't need a portable media system (at least not yet o.O). Granted some of those games look good, but yeah.. I've stated my opinion.

too many posts about psp's size, it's actually smaller then the DS, but a bit longer. but who doesn't like some space between their finger tips playing on the go.

I'll probably wind up getting both. Right now I'm more excited for the games on the DS and the touch screen looks really fun, though mostly for mini-games. I can hardly wait to see what Nintendo does for Mario Party games on the DS.

The PSP will probably not be purchased at launch, but a few months later it will probably find a way into my pocket.

anyone complaining about PSP's size must have tiny hands, and I'm surprised they're willing to admit that ;)

yeah because you know what they say about people with small hands.....

...small gloves :p

but in anycase although many of the DS games grab my attention, the PSP just seems to be a better system....not to mention the whole FF VII: Crisis Core...thing.

i'll probably get both, but most likely i'll get the DS coz of all the GBA support and stuff. Seems more value for money

Although my hands arent huge, or tiny, I wouldn't be afraid to admit it if they were. :p

The reason I don't like the size is that it looks to be too bulky to carry around. With my SP, I just fold it up and stick it in my pocket. I realize I'm not going to be able to do that with the DS either, but it still does look smaller.

Plus, I am a very unlucky person. Without a flip lid, I would have my PSP screen scratched up all to pieces.

PSP over DS any day... but I doubt I'll get either.

PSP easily. looks to have some solid looking gameplay to go with the graphics. and does a whole lot more for what little more its actually going to cost.

And wow, got some pretty big lack of info on the size of these 2.

Size
DS 148.7mm (length) x 28.9mm (thick) x 84.7mm (tall)
PSP 170mm (length) x 23mm (thick) x 74mm (tall)

Weight
DS 301.7 g
PSP 270 g

DS smaller? sorry guys, but dead wrong.
Aside from being half an inch longer, everything else about the PSP is smaller then the DS, and weighs less to boot. So with that, PSP being the SMALLER of the 2, PSP will be much easier to carry around.

for me tho, it just comes down to DS is way too gimicky. i just want to turn it on and play games. not find new innvations to save the world. Just games.

i didnt think i was gunna get either, but the PSP price is becoming VERY hard to pass up.

The DS is about game playing. The touch screen isnt a requirement for every game. It's a nice little thing that adds to games.

I'd rather turn on the PSP and have it just play games rather then playing movies and all that other junk I play on my home setup.

But meh. People think Nintendo is all about gimmicks. At least they are doing things outside the box. *cough*

so far outside the box that its becoming pointless.

nintendo taunts just as you did, all games. yet the DS does more then games, its has things like a pda.

well i just want to play games. not fiddle around with a PDA or things that i can do on the PC.

i'd want to pull it out of my pocket, flip it on and play a quick game on the go. Nintendo IMO seems to be loosing sight of that. because if they just stuck with SP, i think they'd of won this contest easily. Thats how they won it with the regular GB so long ago. they didnt try to make new hardware to compete with each new handheld. they just strongly supported the one they had.

i dont think nintendo is all about gimmicks, but its becoming easy to see what is and what isnt. All nintendo talks about anymore is innovation and how they need to save the gaming world with innovation. But they're pushing SO hard to find innovation where its not needed. the innvative stuff will come on its own. Nintendo almost seems desperate to find something so innvative. they never needed to try so hard before. And out of all that stuff they added, seems to me sony added the best and most important feature. a simple little analog stick. which is very ironic considering nintendos flip top lid shoulda made it much easier for nintendo to have the analog stick over sony. there coulda been an indent in the lid so when it folds up the analog stick would fit right in.

neither handheld is pure games. but both can be used as pure games. the handheld is what you make of it. i myself tho, just dont want to see all these extra features when all i want to do is play a quick game on the go.

I agree Nintendo should've included a joystick. I'm surprised they didnt.

But you can pull either handhelds out, turn it on and play a game. Your not forced to use anything else for both handhelds.

The reason Nintendo kept the same GB but touched it up every few years was because there was no competition enough to force Nintendo to make another handheld. Now that there is competition enough to compete, they are bringing out something so people can't complain that "Nintendo is staying old with the GBA while Sony has the ub3r PSP'zzzzzz which will ownzorz tehm alLzzzz"

They didnt bring out a new GB for the Gamegear, currently IMO thier strongest competition. and there were many others that coulda been great competition.

What it is, is everyone already had a GB when all that competition came out. there was no need to buy a new one. people said eh, i'll stick with GB and see how lynx does, or see how the Gamegear does. etc.

By bringing out a new handheld at the same time as sony, people are thinking well hey, gotta buy a new one. and then they're forced to make a decision of the two. bad move for nintendo IMO. if they stuck with SP, i think it woulda gone the same as the others. everyone woulda said well i already got a GBA, we'll just wait and see how PSP does. it looks cool. but no need to rush out and spend the extra money when GBA is still in its prime.

i just think nintendo woulda done better at this upcoming handheld war by sticking with the GBA and bringing out some great games.... instead i think they're going to get a big hit from this and its going to be a very tight race.
