VIRTUA FIGHTER 4.1 PLANNED FOR XBOX: FIRST DETAILS

With the PlayStation 2 version attracting rave reviews, first solid word of an Xbox outing for Suzuki's fighter reaches our ever twitching ears

16:47 Virtua Fighter 4 is a PlayStation 2 exclusive, right? Not according to our sources. Whispers are emerging that a new version of Sega's acclaimed fighter is on the way to Xbox, and will include extras over the PlayStation 2 version, due for release on May 10.
Sources close to Yu Suzuki, the legendary creator of the Virtua Fighter series and driving force behind Shen Mue, have confirmed that the developer has been speaking of a version 4.1, for release late this year for the arcade and Xbox. The current game, released in the arcade and on PlayStation 2, is version C.

Virtua Fighter 4.1 is to include at least one new character and new arenas, but very little is known at this point. The news is likely to rattle Sony's cage, even though the new version is expected in Japanese this autumn at the earliest.

Virtua Fighter 4 Fighting its Way onto Xbox??

Sega of America gives us the official response on whether or not Virtua Fighter 4 is Xbox bound.

You may have heard that several European magazines, like OXM UK, are reporting that Sega is bringing Virtua Fighter 4 to the Xbox. Well, we spoke to Sega of America and they gave us a real bummer of an official response. Bryce Baer, PR guru of SOA, said "Virtua Fighter 4 is a PlayStation2 exclusive. We will let you know if there is any additional news."

Well, it just recomfirms the exclusiveness of the game. I don't remember anybody saying anything about it not coming out on XBox making it better...

I think every game should be on every console that can handle it. I don't get my jollies from hearing that Halo won't be going to the PS2.

Anyway, as i said I'm not a big fighting game fan. The franchises that I really hope end up on the Box are MGSX and GTA3. I know that MGSX probably has a 30% or so chance of making it on the XBox, but I think GTA 3 is actually coming late this summer. I can't wait to play that game.

I actually went down to blockbuster to rent a PS2 so I could play GTA 3, but they don't rent them anymore. DAMN:D

This means that Perfect Stu ended the talks of a rumoured game that if it were true, a company would be lying to another (For you Stangler, since you will probably view this is a different way, it means that if this RUMOUR was true, Sega would not be following a contract in which Sega agreed that VF 4 would be exclusive to PS2).

This means that if the rumour was true, then people would think that XBox is just a more powerful machine than PS2, with the same games as PS2. I say this because if the rumour were true, then what would stop other companies from making new editions of games on XBox? If this happened, then potential buyers of PS2 and PS2 products might buy an XBox. I would rather see a persin buy a PS2 because it is my favourite system. I do not think that XBox is bad, but I enjoy PS2 better.

This is the flaw in your thinking. You want developers to NOT make games for the XBox. This is out of the fear that if that happens people will actually get a XBox because if it has the same games, they will be superior because they are on a superior system.

I don't care if every game that comes out is available on every console. It wouldn't affect my thinking at all when it comes to the XBox. I won't love MS more because they forced another company to make their games XBox exclusives. Halo can go on every next gen console for all I care. As long as I have it, its all good.:D

Also, I find it humorous that so many non-Xbox fans spend so much of their time in this forum finding delight in every little ounce of negative XBox news. So I play with them for my amusement.

Ummm... No. I am not against developers making games for XBox. I am against companies going against their agreements with companies, in this case it was just a rumour... So I do not even know why we are still argueing.


And Strangler, I happen to like XBox very much. I do not know if you were here when I posted a thread about XBox being amazing (it was back when the site was a .com).

well, thats why I never called you a fanboy. I have conversed with you enough to know that you aren't one. But that post did look a little biased/fanboyish so I pointed it out.

The truth is that A LOT of non-XBox fans spend a good amount of their time in this forum. Why? I can't imagine. Honestly the only reason why this forum is as big as it is because of PS2 and Gameboy fans coming in to talk trash, argue and post yellow journalism (example: All the members who play reporter but ONLY post XBox news when it is either bad news or a negative review.) So when that happens, I don't let it slide. I call them out on it. I have developed a very low tolerance for Bullsh*t.

So, I apologize if I was a little defensive and lit into you more than you deserved, but honestly I have become that way for a reason.

Erm, well, I'm late to the hot topic again, but I'm going to throw in my 200 Vietnamese currency anyway.

I'm not an XBox or Microsoft fan by any stretch (heck, I use a Mac. I want to avoid using Microsoft products as much as possible, but Mac OS is also better ;) ). However, I'm siding with The Strangler.

We need people like him around here (this also applies to oOPuPPeTOo, Bond, BigJustinW and whoever else I'm missing). People here do show a selective bias in the news they post. The thing is it's very hard to tell that it's going on. As a GameCube fan, I certainly didn't see it happening. It wasn't until The Strangler pointed it out that I realized he's right. Some of us do actually come in here just to read about XBox's failures. Did you notice how much traffic picked up around the Japanese launch?

You may think we're not that biased, but try visiting a place like XBoxAddict's GameCube vs. XBox debate forum. That particular forum is actually probably the most intelligent and least biased of XBA's forums, but the yellow journalism is still there. You won't find a topic about the Triforce arcade board or even a Shigeru Miyamoto interview in there. What you will see is topics about delayed games and Ken Lobb leaving Nintendo of America. I would bet that the XBox fans there don't realize that they're doing, but it's happening nonetheless.

So to all you people who are getting so worked up over The Strangler and people like him, take a long hard look at yourself first. GameTavern prides itself on being one of the most unbiased videogame forums on the internet, and the hard truth is that if we want to keep that up, we're going to need people whose opinions fundamentally differ. Far be it for me to second guess The Strangler, but I honestly don't think he has anything to apologize for.
