As you can tell, i slightly like the FF games, and i want to know which ones you guys prefer towards others and why. Granted all FF games havent been on the PS2, but a heavey majority, but CC is in the poll.

So please explain your choices.

As for me, my favourite is Final Fantasy Tactics, probably just because of the thigns you can do and whatnot. I like the job changing aspect, and the player creating aspect, plus it has a good storyline.

Final Fantasy VIII. Best Game Ever.

Im shocked you dont have FFVI on the poll when ever this question is asked the majority of answers I usaaly hear is VII and VI. Ive never played 6 although I hear is a great game.

Out of all of them 7 IMO is the best. lots of side quests I loved fighing the weapons and the materia system I though was cool. It had a nice storie line aswell. and it auto lvled your sub charactors. if they got too low it would bump them up a lvl so you dident have three lvl 99 guys and 5 lvl 10 guys :p

In terms of story, eh, I'd say FF6. Which, by the way, is not on your list! How dare you insult the series. FF4 is also great.

But, I've definitely had the most fun with 11. FFXI hands down is one of the, if not THE best online MMORPG of all time. There is just SO much to do, it's unbelievable. I've been playing since January and I'm still not even close to being where I want to be in the game. So I voted for it.

FF3 is special because it was the first FF game I played...
FF7 I think I have the most nostalgia for...
But in terms of actual enjoyment I think it's a tie between 7 and 8...

Where are the first six games? Final Fantasy wasn't born on the PSX, you know.

Anyway, its really a tie between IV and IX. I just enjoyed myself most when playing them... Followed closely by X and then VI then VII then I then VIII then II.

I've never played III or V.

Or the Tactics games.

Or Crystal Chronicles.

My favorite is Final Fantasy Tactics (the original one, for the PS1). It had one of the greatest stories I had ever seen in a video game...it was like reading an awesome interactive book. It was also my first experiance with a "job" system...which I instantly fell in love with. It made the game so much more customizable, and I felt like I was really dictating the paths that my characters took.

Also, I will never forget the ending of that game. Never. I wont say anything, because it is something you do not want spoiled...but it is probably my favorite ending of any game I've ever played.

I didnt quite know the ordering, because im playing FF 4 right now, but Dyne said FF 4 is the FF 6, but the graphics are all Nintendo-ish, so it couldtn be FF 6, becaus that was for SNES, but then again so was FF 4 ( i think)

I only put the ones i knew the numbers of.:p Certain ones are different, something about the japanese 2 being our 4 or something or other, the whole thing confuses me, so i decided to start with 7. Sorry bout that.

LOL.

You left the best FF off the list.

VI by FAR.

VII is great too, I don't really care for any of the otheres that much, but the only other ones I've played are I, IV, V, and VIII

I'm not going to count Tactics into my logic because its so different from the rest of the series (I'm guessing the same could be said of FF:CC, but I've not played it.)

FF1 JP = FF1 US
FF2 JP = Not released until FF Origins for PSX.
FF3 JP = never released here.
FF4 JP = FF2 US
FF5 JP = not released until FF Anthology on PSX.
FF6 JP = FF3 US
FF7 JP = FF7 US, etc.

Just in case you were wondering.

On the left is game's number and system in Japan. On the right is what the game was released as in America. If the game has been a part of a compilation pack, that's been added as well.

Final Fantasy (Famicom) - Final Fantasy (NES/PSX/GBA)
Final Fantasy II (Famicom) - Final Fantasy II (Final Fantasy Origins [PSX], Final Fantasy I+II Advanced [GBA])
Final Fantasy III (Famicom) - Not released in NA
Final Fantasy IV (Super Famicon) - Final Fantasy II (SNES), re-released as Final Fantasy IV (Final Fantasy Chronicles [PSX])
Final Fantasy V - Final Fantasy V (Final Fantasy Anthology [PSX])
Final Fantasy VI - Final Fantasy III (SNES), re-released as Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy Anthology [PSX])
Final Fantasy VII - Final Fantasy VII (PSX)
Final Fantasy VIII - Final Fantasy VIII (PSX)
Final Fantasy IX - Final Fantasy IX (PSX)
Final Fantasy X - Final Fantasy X (PS2)
Final Fantasy X-2 - Final Fantasy X-2 (PS2)
Final Fantasy XI - Final Fantasy XI (PS2/PC)

***

Basically:

Final Fantasy II on the SNES is really Final Fantasy IV.
Final Fantasy III on the SNES is really Final Fantasy VI.
They neglected to localize the other games and didn't want to mess up the numbers. They said, "Screw it!", however, when they got to VII. Then, of course, they switched to the games actual number.

As Square has been re-releasing the games on the PSX, they've also changed the numbers back. So IV is again IV instead of II and VI is VI rather than III.

Games released in NA and the systems they have been on:
FF (NES/PSX/GBA)
FFII (PSX/GBA)
FFIV (SNES/PSX)
FFV (PSX)
FFVI (SNES/PSX)
FFVII (PSX)
FFVIII (PSX)
FFIX (PSX)
FFX (PS2)
FFX-2 (PS2)
FFXI (PS2/PC)

Hope that cleared it up for you :D

Hrm...i am super confused, see this is whay I started at VII, its less confusing for people like me whoa re stupid.

I have a question.

I have 2 files, one called "FF2" and one "FF4". When they load up ( this is on a computer mind you) they say the respective title. But when i play the game, it is the same game, just different start screens.

So what i'll do is ill put up the first, like...30 seconds of the game as recolected by my memory, and you can tell me.

It starts off and its a semi-ariel view of an airship going over land and water ( the graphics look pretty SNES-ish, but i think they are NES) and then maybe 5 seconds after that it zooms into the deck, and the people kinda look like Germans in the 30's. Wearing those helmets and Cloak-y things.

I know thats not really enough to determine, but you ttwo look like FF buffs, so hopefully you an help me.

EDIT: The captain of the ships name is "Captain Cecil" if it helps at all.

EDIT:

Then i have one called "FF5"

and im only at the beginning, and right now im a chocobo running around during an aftershock im guessing caused by a meteor that hit.

Please confirm these games and their names.

+reps.

The first one on the airship is Final Fantasy II US, or Fianl Fantasy IV. Called 2 on SNES, 4 in FF Chronicles, as it's real name was.

Dunno the second one.

FFX and FFXI... I voted FFXI because of how much time I have played it, but I don't think it counts as a "true" FF game, so FFX.

FFVII was a great game but Tactics was genius. The job system, the story and everything else about it.

The thing that pisses me off is I lent the game to my a friend and were not friends anymore so he has my game.
Along with a couple others.

By the way I was just reading the case for FF Chronicles(which that bastard has as well) and it says that FF IV can be played 1 OR 2 player. Does anybody know anything about this.

That's The Japanese Final Fantasy IV and North American Final Fantasy II. And it is an SNES game. The graphics, while not exactly the best the SNES can produce, is far beyond anything the NES could do. Look at the graphics at the first Final Fantasy. The Japanese Final Fantasies II and III never really go beyond those graphics.

The Final Fantasy V you have is just Final Fantasy V.

I'm a FF n00b.

Played the first 5 min of all the SNES ones.
Tried FFTactics for GBA. Couldn't get into it. Liked Tactics Ogre much much better.

But this topic has influenced me to play FFVII which I just started playing today.

I guess FFIX wins my vote. My three personal favorites were FFIX, FFVIII, and FFVI.

FFIX was just plain fun. The story was alright. The characters were great.
FFVIII was great too. Characters were great and actually believable, unlike in the previous ones (*cough* FFVII)
FFVI is just a classic. Loved it.

FFVII is just really over rated. Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, just not deserving all that praise it gets :P
FFX was alright.. I guess.. Characters kind of sucked though.

My favourite would be out of FFVII and FFVIII.

Trash it and skip to IX. Awesomeness. X after that. Great (ignore BF ;)). Then go to VIII. That's pretty good if you can get around the Junction System (too complicated for its own good).

IV would be in there after IX if you hadn't said you didn't like the SNES games (crazy). VI would be placed after X (VI is better developed and such than X, but I just was never able to get into it as much).

*ahem*

My vote goes to FFX... I really liked that game for some reason.

Though I personally think I'll fall in love with Final Fantasy XI cause of the whole MMORPG/Community thing.

I'm disgusted right now. The two best Final Fantasy titles aren't even options. I'm of course referring to FFIV and FFVI (also known as FFII and FFII stateside) for Super Nintendo.

After all, the series didn't begin with FFVII; although, I'm sure there are a few mongoloid FF fans out there who are under that impression.

If I must choose between them, I would probably have to say VIII, mostly because of the awe-striking plot. That and the characters where really well played out, I must say Zell and Squall are two of my all time favorites.

I saw VII was up there as well, has anyone else see the Advent Children movie? Personally I thought it was brillaint, although the plot could have used some work, the CG animation was amazing.
