View Full Version : Ninja Gaiden Update

Well for everyone who ever doubed the combination of Xbox Live and a hard drive, check this out:

http://xbox.ign.com/articles/525/525886p1.html?fromint=1

Not only is Ninja Gaiden a sick game straight out of the box, but now Team Ninja is releasing upgrades to the camera, engine and adding new enemies and weapons all over Xbox Live. I found this quote about the new engine to especially amusing:

All of it will come quicker requiring even greater reflexes. Think back to what it was like playing the "slow" version of Ninja Gaiden and imagine tossing shurikens while running along walls and battling four of those annoying brown ninjas at once. Now speed that up. Hear that sound? That's your brain about to explode.

Ninja Gaiden v1.1 will be released in August, and I for one am exstatic. As good as that game is, you can always use more replayability.

No, that sound is the sound of me laughing at the thought of Microsoft continually trying to say the Xbox isn't a PC when they go ahead and allow somebody to blatantly call an update to a game version "1.1."

Seriously. I'm not saying it's a bad thing that they're releasing an update (though I do think they should have done it right the first time). I just think the philosophy behind it is a little warped.

Ayuh. Erzaehl mir mehr.

True dat.

Ace, sorry if you hate the Gamecube. You could support your claims that it sucks though.

Anybody that understands irony can see it here. Both with the Microsoft situation and with your post. First you blatantly say that it's not a PC:

Oh Die already it's not a pc. It's just got all the stuff PS2 didn't want to add. PS2 is a pc too the only true gaming console I've seen is the GC because it sucks

And then you turn around and say that it is a PC but PS2 is as well:

PS2 is a pc too...

As to PS2 being a PC, I really haven't seen much of anything that would make me call it a PC. What exactly makes you think it's like a PC?

Let's keep this thread simple and to the point. ABOUT THE NINJA GAIDEN UPDATE

which btw sounds pretty cool. Make it tougher, faster, with a better camera and more enemies

You know, people keep on criticizing the Xbox by saying that its a PC, yet I have yet to see one example of how incorporating some PC architecture into a console has done anything but make the Xbox a better console.

Mariolover, you say that it's "warped". Please explain how the philosophy of adding extra content to already great games is a bad thing.

This is how online game updates should be...

Back in the day everyone was like "Online and hard drive? That means developers will release crap-ass retail versions at first, then eventually make them better with patches!"... But no, Ninja Gaiden is supposed to be awesome to begin with, and they're using a patch to keep things fresh and improve the game further...

How is that bad? Even if it's like a PC, how is improving things in an already good game and mixing it up a bit to keep things fresh bad in any way, shape, or form?

No, that sound is the sound of me laughing at the thought of Microsoft continually trying to say the Xbox isn't a PC when they go ahead and allow somebody to blatantly call an update to a game version "1.1."

What problem do you have with the xbox being a PC???

The PC obivosly has good pionts to add to the gaming field why not add that technolgy to the consuls and make the gaming experience better. Then to just produce the same thing over and over. This is a great ideal for consuls now oyu can play your games over and over and when you get bored ohh look new content. Or they could do what metal gear soild did and make a good game them remake the game with added content a few months later and still charge $60 for it.

As for calling the version 1.1 so what if you look at a ps2 youll see version numbers of the dvd drivers ect. Im sure somewere in the GC youll see a version number its standard what do you want them to call it version "Im my eyes not as good because its not nintendo" get over it. end rant

its good that they adding new content to the game although I probly wont pick up xbox live just for the added content.

Wow. You guys totally twisted my posts.

I specifically said:

"I'm not saying it's a bad thing that they're releasing an update..."

And I wasn't saying it was bad that they were incorperating PC aspects into the Xbox. I'm saying that Microsoft's claims are humorous to me.

Mariolover, you say that it's "warped". Please explain how the philosophy of adding extra content to already great games is a bad thing.

I think the "get it out now fix it later" philosophy is something that hasn't been a problem on consoles before. I really just don't respect that idealism. As for it being a great game, I bought it the day it came out. And I wanted to cry when I actually got it out and played it.

I don't like the game; sue me. I thought it was one of the most over-hyped games I've ever played. Surely my biggest disappointment on the Xbox. Not that it's an aweful game. It was just a huge letdown for me. I can see why others enjoyed it. But it wasn't my game, and it felt unpolished.

At any rate, I obviously don't hold the majority when it comes to my opinion of the game. But I have an opinion, and I've backed it up.

What problem do you have with the xbox being a PC???

No problem. No problem at all. I just didn't want to buy the Xbox PC when it came out because at the time I could have bought a better PC with a Monitor for maybe $400. I waited and got one used for $100 with some games.

As for me being on a "not as good because it's not Nintendo" rant, I don't think that I was. It's so funny when flame replies come, because that's when the true fanboys show themselves.

Please read my posts before getting mad at me.

Wow. You guys totally twisted my posts.

Im srry you fell that way but I dont think we did

I specifically said

"I'm not saying it's a bad thing that they're releasing an update..."

But then you stated that

I do think they should have done it right the first time). I just think the philosophy behind it is a little warped.

And what I dont get is were in the article that you got they were fixing problems with the game. All there doing is add EXTRA content as well as some new weapons and new enimes.

And I wasn't saying it was bad that they were incorperating PC aspects into the Xbox. I'm saying that Microsoft's claims are humorous to me.

What claims???? The FACT that they ARE adding new content

I think the "get it out now fix it later" philosophy is something that hasn't been a problem on consoles before. I really just don't respect that idealism.

Again there not fixing problems but merely adding to what is an already finished game. Like adding whip topping to banana split. This is the kind of thing that gamers scream out for!!! Adding content instead of remaking it and charging an arm and a leg for numersous addons that are basicly the same thing.

I remeber when Metal Gear Solid 2 came out for ps2. It was a great game and right when I beat it, bam there Meatal Gear Solid 2 substance and they wanted me to drop $60 just for some crappy added content that would have been nice to have but not worth pushing back the release date a great deal of time or charging me $60 for.

But it wasn't my game, and it felt unpolished.

thats fine if you would have said that in the orginal post I would not have had a problem with it, but you dident the first thing you did was knock microsoft, and for what because the game was too hard for you or not your type of game.

Its not my type of game either but the facts are that it is hard and it does make you want to give up and break the first thing you see, but for me hating it sooo much it still calls to me and makes me want to play. In my eyes anygame that can piss me off and still make me wanting more is a damn good game.

At any rate, I obviously don't hold the majority when it comes to my opinion of the game. But I have an opinion, and I've backed it up.

Its not that you dont hold the majority its that your overlooking the facts. That the game was half decent and people like it. Instead of milking us gamers for every pennie we have. They award us for buying the game. They said you guys got this game lets not make them pay for another lets make some new weapons and some new added features and give them to the gamers for free(minus the price of xbox live in witch is a good price because it allows you to play multiple game online on good servers) for the gamers who like this game and want to continue playing the game without getting bored.

As for me being on a "not as good because it's not Nintendo" rant, I don't think that I was. It's so funny when flame replies come, because that's when the true fanboys show themselves.

Please read my posts before getting mad at me.

I read your posts and the fact is Ive gotten from every one that you dont like Microsoft and that like Nintendo and stand behind them though thick and thin. Um...correct me if I'm wrong, but they arent "fixing" anything are they? They are simply taking something perfect and adding more perfect things onto it. They think "we gave them an awesome game, now lets give them a reason to play it again after they beat it." It's like adding an super hard mode onto the game. I dont think they were in the mindset of "lets put this out now, then fix it with online updates".

Yeah, I agree with Hero also. :\

AHHH, Vampyr and Hero are wrong about them not fixing anything. They are fixing the camera after people complained about it. So its not just all added content.

At any rate, I obviously don't hold the majority when it comes to my opinion of the game. But I have an opinion, and I've backed it up.

Oh ok. But, even so, I think most people would agree that Ninja Gaiden is such an awesome game that the developers werent in the mindset of "sell it now, make it later"

And, MarioLover said that the "sell it now fix it later" wasnt a problem that the game industry had had before...but, in reality, there was something much worse. There were some developers who thought "sell it now, fix it never". Superman 64, anyone? There have always been bad games...always will. I dont think online capabilities will cause there to be more bad games, because they have to make a good game in the first place, or no one will buy it.

Instead, online functions allow them to add a level or replayability not seen before.

how bout the Linux bundle? PS2 Hard drive, keyboard, mouse, Linux operating system, and adapter to hook it to a monitor.

;)

whether people like it or not, game consoles are computers, the parts inside are basically the same type of thing. only difference is a real computer is programed to do more, while consoles are programed to do specific things.

and its a GOOD thing, PC's are way ahead of consoles in the online area. Updates, upgrades, downloads, etc. are all great things that consoles are going to HAVE TO incorperate. online gaming just needs it. IMO they'll actually have to work with PC even more, so you can make a map on pc, and download it onto your console.

only thing xbox did wrong is not allow for keyboards and mice. a mistake i dont think they'll make with Xbox 2....... best solution: USB plugs on the console that can use pc things like keyboards and mice.

sorry for going off topic again. hehehe

back on topic. great thing for the game that they add and fix things for it :)

tons of games are released with bad cameras, but developers havn't had a way of (or at least since Xbox, they havn't felt like) fixing them...

Tons of people complained about Super Mario Sunshine's camera... If Nintendo was able to 'fix' it and did, people would see it as a good thing... Not bitch about how they "Rushed it out and intended to fix it later"...

I'm going to try and simplify this the best way I know how.

The main point of my entire post was the fact that Microsoft has repeatedly stated that they did not want the Xbox to be viewed as a PC. Yet this update is being called version 1.1. It just seems that if they really want to hinder that PC view (which, I honestly don't know why they would try to do that), they would try and be a bit more tactful and request a different name for the update.

I'm not saying that it was a bad thing that they're releasing an update. In fact, I've repeated that fact in this thread, yet most of you seem to ignore that. If they're improving it, good for them.

I personally didn't like the game. I didn't like the camera/controls and that ruined the gameplay for me. That was just me. This wasn't meant to be a focus of the post. It's just my opinion of the game after I got it.

I didn't contradict myself at all Hero. I stated that I didn't think it was a bad thing that they were releasing an update. I don't. I don't think they did the game right the first time. That's my opinion. If they're going to fix it now, all power to them, but I still think they should have gotten me to like it the first time around. For you, it's an extra topping on an already delicious dessert. For me, it's like getting an extra load of steaming hot crap in the toilet before I flush. But whatever.

As others have stated, they're fixing the camera and in my opinion trying to improve upon Gameplay elements. Again, you're not going to agree on this because you loved the game. But either way it doesn't matter. Let's just agree to disagree and forget about it.

thats fine if you would have said that in the orginal post I would not have had a problem with it, but you dident the first thing you did was knock microsoft, and for what because the game was too hard for you or not your type of game.

I didn't knock Microsoft at all, and that's what I find humorous about all of this. I just said I think it's funny that Microsoft doesn't want the PC image yet they reinforce it with a name like that. That's not knocking them. It's me finding humor - not hatred - from their stance. I didn't think the game was too hard. It simply didn't captivate me in any way. I didn't have a drive to play it. If you did, great. I had the same problem with Metroid Prime.

how bout the Linux bundle? PS2 Hard drive, keyboard, mouse, Linux operating system, and adapter to hook it to a monitor.

You're right. I had completely overlooked it while posting last night. Sorry.

I read your posts and the fact is Ive gotten from every one that you dont like Microsoft and that like Nintendo and stand behind them though thick and thin. every peice of sortware has a version number that doesnt make it a PC.
The gameshark has the version numbers does that make the playstaion 1 a PC no. Why would a version number make the xbox a PC.

I still dont see why you would "laugh" at the fact they call it ver 1.1. Thats what it is the first revision of the first model. All software has a ver # no matter what. PS2 has them and GC has them. It just so happens that you see them more on computer because computer games are more likley to be updated.

and on the Nintendo subject. If you dident like nintendo so much you wouldent pay such close attention to them. thus you wouldent have been the first to critizse. I have no problems with the fact that you like nintendo I have a problem with the fact you "laugh" at microsoft because they put a normal version number on an update. what esle would they have called the version Ninja Gaiden version "we added some crap play the game again"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Gameshark a completely unlicenced and unendorsed utility. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have virtually no jurisdiction over what they call their utility. However, they do have complete autonomy over what this update is called. Plus, this is a radical game upgrade.

I respect that you're happy for it. It's just an image issue that Microsoft is usually pretty adamant about keeping on the down low. Sorry, I found it funny; if you don't, don't laugh. But get off my case.

I still dont see why you would "laugh" at the fact they call it ver 1.1. Thats what it is the first revision of the first model. All software has a ver # no matter what. PS2 has them and GC has them. It just so happens that you see them more on computer because computer games are more likley to be updated.

You're right, there are revision numbers. But this is way out in the open. Version 1.1 is what everybody calls this. I didn't call my Ocarina of Time that wasn't a Gold cart version 1.1 or 1.2 (even though it was) because virtually nobody else referred to it as such.

and on the Nintendo subject.

You're right. I do like Nintendo, I don't think I ever denied that. In fact, if you would have read that post I linked to (or at least paid attention to it) you would have noticed that I said right there:

I'm a huge fan of Nintendo's games. Namely Zelda, Mario, and Super Smash Bros. I'm always going to want those games. I never thought I'd say this, but I'm going to really have to think hard upon buying the N5 or not.

As to what they could have called it, I don't know. Maybe Ninja Gaiden DC, or Gold, or Super Mega Ultra edition, or Ninja Gaidin - Now with 50% more poop.

I was finding it humorous because of all the work Microsoft went to so that the Xbox wasn't just perceived as a PC by the press and public. But now that they are where they are it doesn't matter anymore. Laugh or don't. But don't tell me that I'm wrong to do what I do.

What were we talking about again?

Good question.
