I want to know who among you, realisticly, sees themselves purchasing one in the near future. Or who already has one.
I bought a new PS2 today, and it came with the HDD ( i think it says on it), so im pretty sure im set in that area, for San Andreas, and GT4. unless i have, like a fake version...or have to do anything like set it up somehow in the options menu and am just too stupid to figure it out.
But anyways, i bought the PS2 "bundle pack" deal. Which is a PS2, ATV offroad fury 2, a controller, and a hard drive, all for the price of $199.99 + taxes (canadian money). What i dont get is why are they still selling the independant PS2's? they both sell for the same price. Who would buy the system alone, instead of getting the HDD and a game?

People who don't plan on going online would probably rather pay less money and buy the system seperate.

If thats $199 in canadian, then american is cheaper. Where is this deal?!

sounds to me like you bought the bundle pack that included the network adapter but no hard drive... i could be wrong, but that's just what i think for that price.

On the back theres this thing clipped into it....im pretty sure it says HDD on it.....although..i MAY just be an idiot.
And Crash, if i didnt but the bundle pack, the system alone, without anything else would have been the same price. I think they are trying to boost sales or something.
But, now that i think about it, it probably isnt the HD....although like i said, its in the back of the system, and says HDD on it...bleh, only time will tell.

You got the Network Adaptor man... It says HDD on the back of it because that is where you are supposed to hook it up to, I believe.
would be easier just to pull it out and see if the big rectangle hole is empty or has a HD in it. :p

I'll get it when Chain Of Promethia... the expansion pack for FFXI comes out.
That game will be AMAZING... Plus MGS3 and GT4 will probably use the HD.

I know... I'll survive.
Also people I got a question... what if I import a US version of FFXI and HD... to Europe and try to use it on my Pal PS2.(With modchip of course)
Will it work?

It should for the game. Not sure how the HD will react to a PAL PS2 since I dont know if there are any changes between US/PAL PS2's that make the HD not work with other regions.

not quite as much as you'd think

Is there a thing called "PAL PS2"...or was he trying to say " a pal's PS2"? because those could be very different things.

:hmm: was that a joke?
Anywho. the hard drive SHOULD be the same for both NTSC and PAL PS2's
it may however be formated differently. that im not sure of.

None of the updates ever took me 5 hours, and I have cable. The most was about an hour and a half I think.
And tarakan, it's cool that youre getting the game, let either me, DarkMaster, Hero2, or Ominub know when youll get it so you can get on the server we're on.

I just installed the game on a laptop last night so It was a combination of updates not one by one.

We sold that PS2 package at Toys R Us. No hard drive, just the network adapter. The Network adapter does say HDD on it but it is not the hard drive.

It was supposed to be a joke, but apparently a couple people didnt like it, giving me - reps.

i dont have the game so never tried. but unless they goofed something and we're talking about updates? it shouldnt take that long.
PC games almost never install update after update. because much of the time the stuff from all the other updates is in the latest update. and would usually over ride anyway. so NORMALLY, its not needed to install every update. only the last one.

Yea crono said hes never spent 5 hours D/L ing an update because hes gotten the smaller ones as they came out but if you install FFXI on a pc now the accumlitive updates take 5 hours to update since they change the look of the game for the differnt seasons. And they added some new EQ and such.

then they really goofed up and arent sure how to do PC games because it should only be the last update you need, MAYBE the last couple.
most of that stuff copies over the previous, like changing the look each season? well why would you have to download the look of one just to copy over it with the look of another?
PC updates dont work like that.
do they MAKE you download each one or do you get to pick?

for the first 4 or 5 months that the game was out they had an update like every month. They recenly had a big update were they added LOTS of new quests and items and such. One update had like 5-10 pages of new content added.

Square's crazy way of doing FFXI updates from the beginning (ie: fresh install of game) is why it takes 5 hours. I've seen it first hand and dont understand it but meh.

I have the Ps2 version and 56k, and I had about 3-4 hours of downloads total. But the Ps2 version came out with many of the PC updates already installed on it. Not to mention there has been a couple times where PC players had to download updates that Ps2ers didn't have to.
