This is the thread for ps2 and I can probably spend mind-numbing hours reading posts and catching all the names of people who are Ps2 phreaks or are fans of SONY technology.
If you are please say so in a reply... Because whenever a subject comes up about Nintendo, SONY, or Microsoft, I'm thought of as biased in my opinions.
I for one am a SONY fan, but have never belittled the essence of that of Xbox or Cube or DS or GBA. All of these systems have their qualities and the SONY products have theirs, but when I state my opinion ... IN A DISCUSSION THREAD nonetheless... the opinion is thought to be bashing of Nintendo. SONY is a preference and I'm sure everyone has their preferences... so quit bugging me about my true to nature honesty and somewhat aggressive comparisons between SONY, NINTENDO, and MICRO.
Officially on the Record:
SONY RULES!
and nothing more needs to be said...

I dont give a sh*t about the technical vocabulary of what's going on.
I have a preference to SONY, and it shouldn't matter to anyone else. I just wanna get to know the other SONY fans in this forum

Easy there, soldier. T'was a joke like I said it was.
calling someone a fanboy is just an easy and chickensh*t way of making it seem like thier opinion doesnt matter.
i've been called a Nintendo fanboy, a Sony Fanboy, PC fanboy and on one rare ocasion i was actually called a MS Fanboy :hmm:
so all in all. i think they all cancel each other out. lol

I just think the term Fanboy is cliche...
if you prefer blondes with veluptious lips and prolonged legs, are you still a fanboy?
Bah... if you like something you like something... theres no such thing as Fanboyism....

I prefer Nintendo but I'm not completely blind to the other consoles. Played them all, liked a few game sbut I've yet to find the game that makes me buy the console for myself. But I think Conker is the game that will make me buy an Xbox because they are improving the single player but keeping the same level design which is a major plus.

I have played all systems as well........ if i would mix the three systems in all....... I would...
Take GameCube's graphics power
Take Xbox's Harddrive
Take PS2's game contracts
and make the PSXCUBE......lol.....
great games, harddrive included, and massive graphical capability.

I prefer PS2. I feel that I kind of grew out of Nintendo products....
But for the record, I think I was a Nintendo fanboy back in the Dolphin days. If it wasn't for my brother winning a PS2 at a golf tournament, I would have probably purchased the GCN on the day it was released.

I'm a big Sony supporter...but everyone knows that.
As a casual gamer, from 1989-2000, I was a Nintendo fan. NES, SNES, N64. Never owned a playstation, but I bought a PS2 at launch. The system keeps getting better...+1 Sony. I have a nice big Sony TV now. It's fantastic. +1 Sony. They've improved their first and second party software development 10-fold since the PSone days. +1 Sony. My original PS2 is still chugging along at over 3.5 years of age, I've owned (at one point or another) probably 30-40 PS2 titles, and Ive thouroughly enjoyed a very high percentage of them.
Their jump into the online market has been above par as far as I'm concerned, and their style, ambition and marketing look to keep them on top for years to come.
So yeah, I'm a big Sony supporter...but everyone knows that.

i like nintendo because of this:
it has family games. i like these kinda games. same reason i like family movies. they are my favorite kind.
games i concider family games:
SSBM
Mario
Luigi's mansion
Super monkey ball
movies I concider family movies:
Lord of the rings
spiderman
disney movies
the reason i think that is because there is not a whole lot of blood sex and gratuotous violence.
ps2 isn't real good about making family games. they are good at making games pretty much exclusively for the older gamer, and while i like that, i only enjoy it in moderation. (sony and microsoft throw it all at you at once)
i like the ds, i will buy it over the psp, even inspite of the graphical "shortcomings" not because i'm a fanboy, but because the ds has mario.
I loved my ps1, and i liked my ps2. but i love my gamecube and like my xbox (still only really play halo on it)

I will say that i will stand by my PS2 until the end. Not to say i hate any other console, i just prefer PS2. There is just more framiliarity in the buttons, and the controller setup is so easy, and again, not pickin on other systems here...Although it did feel like hugging a grizzly bear when i played on an XBOX controller..( penny-arcade)

right... between PSX, PSone, PS2, and the PSP... the controller design is basically the same thing.
the xbox's controller (not to bash, but to point out) is just... way too big....
the gamecube's controller is just.... not user friendly... it doesn't have a easy layout... all the buttons are disorganized. Nintendo's best button layout was SNES, and the NES...and maybe the n64's controller... cuz I liked holding it in the middle sometimes...
[edit] pay attention to the market and you'll see many family games for ps2...
Ratchet and Clank
Jak and Daxter
Spyro
DDRMAX-my mom plays occassionally for the work out.
Sly Cooper
just to name a few...

PSXCUBE... never mind...
I used to like the PS2 controller but then it just kept on slipping when I was playing with friends, the GC controller is nice and comfortable, but I agree with rasengan, the buttons are disorganized, but once you get used to it, you'll see why its a good controller, and I dont even want to get in the X-Box but I will anyway. The X-Box controller maybe big but you'll (eventually) get used to it, the smaller version is ok I guess.
Let me ask you guys a question that rasengan and I have been arguing abou: Do you think that Sony took the idea for the controller from Nintendo? SNES controller setup was stolen from Nintendo, and was put into the PS controller. That why I think that Nintendo was forced to change their setup of the N64 controller. What do you guys think?
MuGen

well... lemme present what I think of this....
the SNES has A B X Y then two shoulder buttons, R and L...and a one-part D pad...
The original PS has... X, Box, Triangle, Square, 4 Shoulder buttons...
it's a possibility that Sony may have been inspired to use shoulder buttons only because what else would you use your middle and index finger for.... its there and you can put more features in a game with a console with more buttons, and not hard to reach buttons too.
But keep in mind NES was like the first console... a classic one, and it basically paved the way with controller design...
So would it be fair to say Xbox stole the design of their controller from a mix of PS and Nintendo with Analog like Sony controllers, Shoulder buttons like Nintendo, black and white to serve as the Z button for Nintendo and such?
All controllers have their own distinctive layout and it's not fair to say anyone stole from Nintendo because Nintendo was the first console probably all of us bought...
Playstation's original controller also had grip stems on the right and left, the original SNES was a rounded rectangle...

its not what you think. thats a fact man.
Its not a secret, the Playstation was going to be a CD addon for the SNES, hence the controller design, when nintendo and sony broke on the idea. Sony kept the basic layout and added to it. (VERY smart on thier part)
nintendo wasnt forced to change anything.

i didnt know that... so sony started out as a partner company helping nintendo, then just broke it off and decided to make money off their little technological venture....

i think it was nintendo that actually broke the partnership, they thought it would be a bad idea to make an addon, plus didnt like CD's as a format.
So instead of just moping, sony picked up what they had and finished it off to make its own console out of it.

The thing isnt who made the controlers and who made them first. Its the layout and the convienience of the controllers.
Like the origional XBOX controllers...well, they sucked ass..but the smaller ones are way better, and a little more orgonized. I think Nintendo is just trying to be different with their controller styles. like the N64 had that 3-pronged controller thing, which was surprisingly comfortable to hold, and then the GC ones, well, IMO they are just too strange...
And i think the reason why the XBOX contollers were so big at first is because they were mainly supposed to be for older people (not kids, obviously), or maybe it was a ploy to make people buy extra controllers and spend more money when the smaller ones came out.
EDIT: ya...Nintendo made their biggest threat...Sony....

my guess would be Microsoft wanted to emulate the whole SIZE DOES MATTER issue when they launched xbox....
the xbox was huge at launch and didnt have a fan
the xbox controllers were huge at launch
so yeah.... they were going for that whole BIG thing.

Thats retarted...why would they ( microsoft) think that a bigger system is better? It just takes up more space and collects more dust..

Sony took the "basic" design from Nintendo and also borrowed the joystick idea from Nintendo:p
But hey, that comment there wasn't fanboyish at all. I was just cracking a harmless joke.

it was already established that the Playstation was intended to be an add-on for the SNES... but it was broken off and so Sony kept the idea and went with it.
Now whose to say the Gamecube isn't copying SONY's Dual Analog setup? Now the gamecube has a joystick on the left and the yellow analog on the right...and we all know SONY came out with the dual analog's first......... so...... did Nintendo copy SONY? I wouldn't say they did, but the way your saying SONY copied Nintendo... it might be fair to say Nintendo copied SONY too............it goes both ways.
So basically the two companies have borrowed from each other........ it doesn't really matter...... it's just button setups
[edit] now that I look at it...
http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00005QEFL.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
Thats an exact replica of a PS2 Dual Analog controller, with the GameCube's Dpad and Joystick switched around so it don't look the same.... and the button setup just scrambled.
It almost LOOKS exactly like the PS2 controller...... LOL....whatever..............I'm just saying..... I hope I don't stir up mixed emotions...

But if you compare the PS controller setup to that of the SNES, you will see that Sony copied Nintendo. So your arguement becomes invalid.

But how can one copy something from someone when they made it WITH that someone?

Yeah, but Nintendo didn't make the Super Nintendo controller with Sony, and the agrument is that the PS controller looks like the SNES controller...The team up with Sony is somewhat irrelevant in this case.

How is it irrelevant? if nintendo made the PS controller with Sony, then how could sony of copied the design? has nothing to do with who made the SNES controller.

Was there any actual proof that Nintendo actually helped design the PS controller? I know that Sony and Nintendo were in talks with the whole CD add-on deal, but did it ever get to the point where they actually designed the controller? I never remember reading about that, but if you could provide a link to a story or cite something from a book that'd be cool. Not trying to be a jerk, but I've never personally heard anything about Nintendo having any input about the PS controller.
nah. its not a huge deal. im not going searching for stuff i saw 8 years ago.
im just goin by memory. :)

is that a factual statement?
all these arguments are invalid if it is...
besides, I only brought up the GameCube copying PS2 Dual Analog setup, because Jonbo brought up Sony copying Nintendo again.... when we clearly established the joint operation between the two companies...
I'm dropping this...

And all companies copy each other. I made a harmless joke. Maybe you happened to overlook that part.

being geared towards older audience doesn't mean it's not played by younger kids, and such.
besides.. there are a lot more family oriented games I've failed to mention, and I'm not going to go through all the trouble to list them all.
Sports games are great family games too... it doesn't HAVE to be Mario and Luigi all the time. lol
