Nintendo finally listened to us! I saw the video on the press conference stream, I drool and I salivate.
Now Nintendo needs to market and hype the hell out of it because its gonna sell 'Cubes.

Like I said, it looks like a much more epic Zelda... Even the music was like LotR...
Awesome graphics, I can't wait for this one... I hope the gameplay is more realistic too, maybe with some survival aspects...
And two more things, I wonder if it'll be tied into previous Zelda games like WW was, and whatever happened to that Cel-shaded WW sequel?... Hmm...
Ohhh my god. That is SOO awesome. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I think not making a direct sequel is a no-no... WW set up for a sequel that could be really cool in that classic sort of Zelda way that we all know and love...
This game, on the other hand, looks to be a whole new take on the Zelda series, in a much more realistic, detailed, LotR-esque way...

Agreed.
They are making games like they used too. The right way.
But, I know I'm going to be criticized for this, but I am also learning why nintendo isnt making any Online games. I have truely converted. I dont think Online is the way to go. I have had SO MANY bad experiances trying to get online games to work for me. Something always messes up, and it's so damn expensive.
Thanks nintendo. you're learning, and I'm learning.

This is good stuff. Finally a game that has the potential to stand out in this generation like Halo and like mario and Zelda did in the last one.
BTW does anyone know where I can get the direct feed for the conference? I plan to dl Sony's, M$ and Nintendo's.
BTW you can't please some people at all, people are on the ign boards complaining about the realistic Zelda.

"Sorry for the negativity at such a gracious time for Nintendo and its fans, but I had to throw in my two cents. First and foremost congrats to all those here and everywhere else wanting a new "realistic" and "mature" Zelda. Nintendo hath answered ye prayers!
However, I'm a little dissapointed. Let me just say that the new Zelda does look breathtaking, to say in the least, but I still can't get over a few things. First off I loved Wind Waker more than any other Zelda out there. I loved the style and the new gaming elements it set for itself and the series. Now as I watch this new trailer of a brand new Zelda I'm wondering a few things.
Where is the sequel to WindWaker?
Why did they change the graphic style?
Why does the game look IDENTICAL to OoT, but more polished up?
Why do I see NOTHING new at all with the series (excluding horse fights)?
Seriously...I'm just not that excited. It's OoT all over again, but with a graphics overhaul as far as I'm concerned so far. I find it sad that Nintendo reverted back to a more "realistic" style. I mean...I would have been fine with it had it looked a little different than it's predecessor, OoT. But here we are...seemingly stuck in the same world, with the same type of Link, with the same conflict, and same type of gameplay, etc.
Sorry Nintendo, but this is one time where I feel you shouldn't have gone with the crowd, and stuck with the freshness of what you got now...

But I thought I had heard somewhere that they were originally developing another cel-shaded sequel... Were they just rumors? OR WHAT!? I'M SCARED!
Full article:
Just after the end of E3 2004's first day, Nintendo held a roundtable discussion so that the press could hear from the director of Wind Waker and Link's new adventure, Eiji Aonuma. During the event, Aonuma confirmed that the new Legend of Zelda game unveiled at Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference is currently scheduled for release in 2005.
Additionally, this game is the same game that Aonuma referred to as "The Wind Waker 2" back at the Game Developers Conference in March. The game won't be called The Wind Waker 2 when it's completed, and won't be a sequel to the last GameCube Zelda game.
Link is said to be a teenager in this new adventure. Additionally, Link's horse--not confirmed to be Epona--is said to be a prominent element of the gameplay. We'll have more on The Legend of Zelda as it becomes available.

Change into a realistic look? That won't do the atmosphere much good... Just give us an epic, dark adventure from the start. :D
I'd also like to see a sequel to TWW, but this time with more land.
A few boat parts in this new Zelda game would be nice too...
Ehm, how are we going to call this Zelda game?? Zelda: A Surprise at e³? :)
The guy who said that this game looks to much like OoT probably forgot that TWW was basicly a polished, cartoony version of OoT... same sounds, same details...
This game looks so much more revolutionary! Burning arrows that get stuck in a tree and keep burning... :D
EDIT: It's not even their own music : accompanied by the Conan the Barbarian soundtrack...

Just very quickly though, as for the reason why Link has changed, there were very, very, very, very many people out there who wanted Link to change [laughs]. Also there's another reason and that's that in developing the Wind Waker we know that we were going to be creating a game in which Link was a young boy and trying to create a very active and very energetic young boy and trying to choose the right style for portraying the young boy in a game like that we tried many different experiments. The ultimate decision we came to was that the cel-shading in Wind Waker was the best option for expressing that. We also wanted to create a very unique game world on the GameCube.
But since then, we've been left with a very big question: and that was, what are we going to do when we decide to make Link a teenager again -- a 16-year-old Link. So after Wind Waker we tried several different models and made varied versions of them. Ultimately we decided that in showing a teenage Link really the best style of expressing him would be something that's closer to our graphical style in Ocarina of Time. So Mr. Aonuma actually wasn't lying at the Game Developer's Conference when he said we were working on Wind Waker 2. He just didn't tell the whole story. And fortunately because he didn't tell the whole story, we were able to surprise you all here with a big announcement about the series.
There you go, mystery solved.
And here's some more stuff.
Q: How long has the game been in development, how far along is it, and why isn't it playable at E3 2004?
Aonuma: In terms of playable versions on the show floor, we're still not sure exactly how long it's going to take to complete the game at this point. But the plan is to by E3 next year have a version that you will be able to play to your heart's content. And in terms of how far along the game is, as I mentioned everything you saw in the movie yesterday is from a version that's running real-time playable on the engine. At this point we've got the engine running and everything's working and it's a matter of plugging in and putting in the finishing pieces.
Q: In the trailer that we saw yesterday, a lot of areas looked very familiar to Ocarina of Time. We saw a castle and Link rode Epona. He might have been in the Lost Woods. Is Link going back to Hyrule and is this now the true sequel to Ocarina of Time?
Eiji Aonuma: How do you know that horse was Epona [smiles]? Unfortunately I cannot reveal all of that at this point in time. Please wait a little while longer.
Q: The graphics in the game are beautiful. Will the game feature high production values throughout? To be more specific, will we see detailed cinematics, major story developments and will characters speak with acted voices?
Shigeru Miyamoto: I actually don't want Link to talk very much. Maybe I'll record my own voice for when he talks, or maybe you can record your own voice [laughs].

That would work to an extent, but remember, Tidus in FFXI could talk too, and if it wasn't for him talking many parts of the game would have had to be much different.

Yeah, but I don't see how having a name for the mute character would make a difference...
And yes, Tidus talked, but Link doesn't have to... Zelda, Ganon, any other main characters (like there was Ruto and the other sages and such in OoT, and a few more important characters in various towns) still can... While town folk that say stuff like "OOOO LOOK AT THAT CYOOTE HAT U R WEARING!!" can just come up in text... Unless they feel like getting some random lady who is a decent voice-actor to say that line...
And I don't see how Link being the lone fighter makes a difference either...
Dark Samurai
05-13-2004, 02:20 PM
Maybe they should make it so that they interupt Link just as he's about to speak
Ex. NPC 1: " What do you make out of this situation, Link?"
Link: "eh..." *interupted*
NPC 2: " Link? There's someone here to see you"
See how that works out? Here's another example
Ex. NPC 1: "Link, are you sure that you can handle the hordes that are coming?"
Link: " uh.... " *interupted again*
NPC 2: "Don't worry Link we are here to fight with you!"
It all works out, but they shouldnt have him try to talk all the time, just in some intantces (sp?) when he's just about to talk.

Because the other characters in the game are always saying his name, and it will be difficult to get the voice actors to say each name that people can come up with. You would have to have it to where you couldn't name the character yourself. Personally, I really don't like that thought... My character has been Alex since I was 5 years old and I am not about to change that.

Voice acting or not, Link should NOT have his speach EVER represented by text or voice. Never.
I wouldn't everybody else with voice acting though. They don't necessarily HAVE to say his name. Never once in FFX (or X-2) did anyone say "Tidus," but it still worked.
They could do the same thing.
Or everybody who doesn't like "Link" could suck it up and live with it.

Hey wait, you're right... I forgot that they never said Tidus because you COULD still rename him in FFX... You just couldn't name any of the other characters, and anytime his name was mentioned it was in text where it could just type out whatever the player put in...

IGN, however, was given to chance to watch and did. They weren't allowed to bring cameras or anything, so there's no video or audio, but they did write a detailed report on it. There's no new information that we didn't already know about that can be taken from IGN's article, but it is interesting none the less. I expect we probably shouldn't have to wait too long until Nintendo releases the whole to the public. I think no more than a couple of months....
Anyway...

"Original orchestrated music plays -- entirely different from the music in the publicly released trailers. It sounds Zelda-like, but it's nothing we've heard before. It could be part of the game's score. Naturally, it sounds great."

The only problem is that it was beaten. 8 years before its existence when A Link to the Past came out. 2D Zelda just can't be surpassed. Never.

Will this game take on a more dark and serious atmosphere? Seems like it, Link just seems so much more mature in this one than he does in Wind Waker? He's always smiling and making cute little expressions in Wind Waker. I think this new adventure will be the 'dark ages' of the Legend of Zelda saga.

Well, yeah. The SW2K demo was expected. After OoT and MM, there was no doubt in anyone's mind that the GCN Zelda game would be realistic and all.
This one was unexpected. Everybody was expecting another cel-shaded Zelda. Instead, we got realistic.

Maybe Shiggy went to the cel-shaded one first, so he could create this huge surprise for the game after it. Or maybe he didn't..

I think it was just Nintendo f*cking with us. Basically by releasing the cel-shaded game first, we developed a love/hate relationship for Nintendo because of the "kiddy" look. Then when the realistic one was shown, everyone went wild because Nintendo gave them what they wanted thus getting its hopes back. I still think Nintendo has been making both Wind Waker and WW2 at the same time but released the cel-shaded one first knowing we would be pissed and want a realistic zelda even more.
Its a conspiracy i say :p

While busy going about my life I went on Nintendo's website and saw something that stunned me. So here I am ready to impart my opinions.
Firstly, Hi everyone, how you doing? I am in London at the moment staying with my brother.
This game looks pretty damn good, you can even see individual links in the chainmail that Link wears under his green tunic. The attention to detail seems great.
It will be cool if this game is in fact a prequel to OoT, If anyone remembers, Link is told in OoT that his father went to fight in hylian wars and his mother fled to the lost woods then disappeared and left him there with the Deku Tree. Mabey you play as link's father who is in fact just another incarnation of Link (as Link in WW is a different incarnation from a different time as the one in say, MM) that would explain the fighting on horseback etc.
Dunno, either way this game looks the sh!t and I for one will be keeping a close eye on it.

It never says Link's father went to fight in the wars, only that his mom went to the Kokiri Forest to escape from the wars.
I doubt it'd be a prequel anyway. If this game is connected to any previous Zelda game at all, it is probably going to be either a sequel to the Wind Waker, or a game showing what happened to the OoT Link after MM.

I see... Wasn't released here. Anyway....
Typically, that's not considered canon by those people who try to figure out the whole storyline of Zelda and such. Also, since it was made in Europe (first in Germany, then translated to Dutch) than the people in charge of this game most likely have never heard of it (or read it at least).
The chances of this game having any sort of relation to Link's father from OoT is very very slim.

Here's my possible theory on the game's story. Maybe it takes place after MM and explains everything that creates the world in WW. Because we dont know what happens in the time from MM where the world floods over and all that is left are mountain peek islands. I think the game has to go back to classic zelda style, with the horse and bow and arrow and HYRULE, i want another REAL Zelda game.
Ginkasa
05-30-2004, 02:18 AM
Its got be either a sequel to OoT/MM and prequel to WW show what heppsn in between, or a sequel to WW and show Link's and Zelda's search for a new Hyrule (or something that happens in that new Hyrule after it has been found).
I'm going for the latter. If you look at all the Zelda games, they seem to come in pairs. You had LoZ and then AoL was a straight sequel. Then came ALttP where LA showed what happened to Link after that. Then you have OoT and Link's search for Navi in MM. Then there are the Oracle games. And the Four Sword games.
Now we have WW....without a companion game. I would bet money this new game is a sequel to WW.

Remember the extended trailer (http://cube.ign.com/articles/515/515922p1.html?fromint=1) of Zelda, last E³??
Read what Matt has to say about it in IGNs last mailbag (http://cube.ign.com/mail/):
"Matt responds: I'd say there's a zero percent chance that the extended Zelda trailer we saw will ever surface. But from my understanding, that's not such a bad thing. You'll just have to wait and see what I mean."
What do you think it will mean?
I think Zelda will be playable on E³, so we won't need a trailer anymore.
Perhaps they changed the look again to cel-shaded. :p

That's what you said when you used to play with toys as a child. Not look, you don't even care about your toys. You just abandoned them because you think you're better than them now that you're a grown-up.
With that being said, I'm afraid I have no choice but to label your comment about the Zelda game as false and exaggerated.

I've been having Nintendo fever lately. (Classic and Super Nintendo) Zelda is one that I miss very much. Thus, it is time for me to have a new Zelda game to play. It should be awesome, but as was said before... it will be difficult to wait for Revolution.
