This game had my brain in knots for a while, and when I DID figure it out, I was slightly dissapointed because of its simplicity... But anyway...

Oh, and try not to spill the method... :)

It's easier than you think... Try and link the name of the game to the rolls on the dice... If you're looking for complex mathmatical formulae, save yourself the hassle, lol.

Will someone send me the secret to this timeless puzzle?

DimHalo

Not allowed to give out any secrets. And from what I can tell there really isn't any math behind it. I stopped looking for a mathematical formula when I read Shadow Link's post.

I got it right almost 100% after I tried a certain method... but what's up with the threes? Not sure why they would count. But, after I had them count... I got it right 100% of the time again, so I think I know what the game's all about. That, or I'm just lucky.

I got it in about 10 minutes the first time I tried it (Like a few months ago). The Name is what gave it away. I just thought about the name for like 10 seconds and BAM I got it.

not all that difficult when it says "the name of the game is important"

Dylflon
05-09-2004, 05:04 PM
It's very easy. It's all about the name. Regard the name I say!

Yeah, it's pretty easy once you figure out what's a rose and what's a petal.

Holy crap I just got it. It truly is all in that name. Nothing at all mathmatical about it. Im actually impressed with myself. I didnt think id be able to figure it out on my own.

i played this in 5th grade, but then it was called polar bears around an ice hole. oh well.

Ginkasa
05-09-2004, 09:19 PM
Yeah, it's not too difficult. And there are parts of the setup on the website that mislead a bit...

Not the name part. That is important to how it is solved.

I know the word "rose" means "rows"...and its around something, but i cant tell what or when...or where...

Dyne

I was introduced to "Petals Around the Rose" by Dr. Richard Duke at the University of Michigan . Dr. Duke used to begin each of his gaming/simulation courses with this exercise. While some students would solve the problem right away, others would struggle all semester. It had taken Dr. Duke well over a year himself, and he would always explain that the smarter you were, the longer it took to figure it out.

I've only got one lead so far.

EDIT: Never mind. I got it. I still don't get the name of the game, but I can get the right answer every time.

..****. I stayed up so late doing this. I feel like Bill Gates. I'll probably be rich tomorrow.

GameMaster

Alright! I got it too!

Misleading in the definition of a rose though. Must all roses have a visible center? Not as far as I'm concerned, but apparently they do. Thanks 7,9,14,11,1,19,1 and 8,5,18,15,B :)

Alright. I got it. :) It took about 15 minutes. I was studying the name, and I thought i had it figured out, but like GM I didnt think the "rose" had to be visible, so I kept guessing a little too high.

Finally got it though.

I am boycotting this game

(Dylflon called me stupid for not finding it out yet...but apparently the smarter you are, the longer it takes you...so i think im probably over anylyzing it....but im still boycotting it..)

TheSlyMoogle

Actually I don't think it's how smart you are... I think, it depends on the type of thinker you are. Like Some people see a game that involves numbers, and even if they've been told "It has more to do with the name of the game, than math." They'll still try and figure it out using math or whatever. They'll try to think of equations. I think figuring this game out has more to do with how well you analyze situations. Petals around the Rose... So I looked at the name of the game, and started using the clue to find the answer, and when I thought of the name of the game alone, I figured it out in about 10 minutes. Some people try to make things harder on themselves. I believe I'm an intelligent guy, but I look for the easiest way out of things because I'm a slacker. Lol, maybe someday, I'll save the world with my slacker abilities! GO SLACKERS!

I had a dream once that there was something wrong with Earth, so all of mankind was loaded onto a rocket and sent into space (launched in my front yard incidentally). Then the Planeteers ("Go planet!") tried to fix Earth by shooting their rings at it, but they ended up knocking Earth out of orbit.

It was wonky.
