An Eighteen year old was picked up on suspicion of making the Sasser worm, which has had a bad effect on millions of PCs during the last week.
The German press reports that the college student was arrested in Rotenburg, north Germany.
He was arrested yesterday, but the local police are still investigating details of the case.
The police have not revealed the man's name or any other details, at press time.
The Sasser worm caught a number of corporations and many more home users off guard, as it attacked machines using unpatched Microsoft systems.

I wonder how they were able to narrow it down to him as a suspect. But in any case, good job!
*****Update*****
Security firm iDEFENSE said three arrests were made yesterday and one individual has confessed to writing code. Ken Dunham from the firm said the leak of Phatbot-Gabot code may have helped the authorities to trace the worm writers. But he adds that he wouldn't be surprised if multiple authors were involved in the different variants. He also adds that the arrests do not necessarily mean we've seen the end of the attacks.

Now, if they can turn the guy around and convince to use his elite skills for the good of computers, then everyone would be happy.
yup. then that'll make there be even more virus. wooo! fun for all.
sorry. but you cant reward someone with a high paying job when he does something like this. then everyone would do it to get a job.
Hey, i want a good job. i'll destroy a lot of peoples computers!

But in the movie, Catch Me if You Can, Tom Hanks finally catches the check forger, and converts him to the good side by giving him a job at the FBI. His job is to analyze suspicious checks and everything works out for the best and everyone is happy.

Heh... now what was that movie? Catch me if you Can? And based on real events, no less?
theres been many movies on that.
and yes that one was based on a true story.
Thing is on that one he really didnt destroy ppls things, and the money he took could be replaced.
on computers sometimes the information a virus destorys is irreplacable. Plus that was a while ago and times a change.

I know that they can trace back but it kind of surprised me that they already caught him. I'd expect at least a month or so while they attempt to trace back.

How did you get so many posts??
Perhaps the police got tips that it was the guy... if I would have made the worm, I'd tell my friends about it. If my friend would tell me that, I'd probably tell the police about it. :D

i think its pretty obvious...its by replying to things like this and talkin about things that dont concern me, and that i know nothing about...thats pretty much it in a nutshell....then theres probably that whole " i dont have a life" thing that gets played in there...
