View Full Version : Just a little rant of mine...

Well I'm bored so I'm going to post this.

Anyway, I see myself either quitting or rarely playing this game after this summer comes around. Why? Several reasons, most importantly, the major flaw in this game.

First of all, what really bugs me about this game is that everything that is needed to be done in order to progress in the game pretty much demands that you do it in groups. Example:
Sub Job Quest (easy though because you level in that area)
Kazham Keys
Most of the Advanced jobs (SAM/DRG/NIN especially)
The extremely gay and annoying level 50 cap quest
your AF
Ranks
and most importantly, good/decent EXP
You can't solo any quest in this game. They should test your own skill, not others'. I guess Square didn't realize that not everyone wants to be helping other people all the time.

Seems that some of these quests like to test your patience and sanity other than your actual skill at this game.

The EXP system is messed. If an enemy is the same level as you, you only get 50 EXP. Doesn't matter what the level is. And you can't even kill enemies that are the same level as you (at least not at later levels). Enemies should have a set amount of EXP. When you need 40,000 EXP TNL, 150 per mob is ridiculous, which is why by the time I reach level 60 I will most likely stop leveling, although I may go to 62-65ish. Then I plan to sell my account on Ebay to some poor sap.

And also, next year I need to focus more on school, so, for the sake of the future of my life (marks determine what university I can get into), I will either quit or just rarely play. That and I'd also like time for some of the other rpg's I will be getting.

Don't get me wrong though. This is an awesome game, and would have been even better if all the not so good things were better. But I know DM, Rndm, and I think TheGame feel the same way I do.

It's just that once you get all AF there's no motive for you to continue (other than reach level cap.. which is ridiculously long, and in the end, not even worth the time IMO).

But anyway, that's what I have to say. I thought this game would last forever but it'll be like every other game I own.

I'm taking a break for about a week. Once I'm 60 and in full AF I'll have to decide whether to play much, or at all, anymore. I need to find other things to do, instead of sitting around all the time. I love the game like a wife, it's beautiful and amazing, sometimes very fun, but once and a while along comes some huge negatives that makes me rethink me decisions for being with it.

Really I think I just need to get some priorities straight and learn to take my time with playing.

Well if you do completly stop playing remember to donate your money and all your goods to the Save Vivec Foundation ;) (I'll gladly take everything but your AF, and loan you money when you want to come back ;))

Also, I see what you guys mean, the Exp curve becomes completly destroyed once you hit lvl 50. Check this out:

Exp Needed chart

lvl50-55: 69,000exp (Equal to lvling a job from 1-23)
lvl55-60: 100,000exp (Equal to lvling a Job from 1-29)
lvl60-65: 160,000exp (Equal to lvling a Job 1-39)
lvl65-70: 180,000exp (Equal to lvling a job 1-44)

How many 200exp fights you need to just to each limit:
lvl50-55: 345
lvl55-60: 500
lvl60-65: 800
lvl65-70: 900

It takes 221k exp to get a Job to lvl 50... in the time you spend lvling a job from 50 to 70 you could have taken 2 other jobs to 50 and another into the 20's. If that isn't incentive to be what race and job you absolutly love, I don't know what is.

I think I'm going to take my "main" job to 50 and be happy with that... that as far as I expect my fun to go with the game. I may go further but that's unlikely.

Heh I leveled DRK to 53 and well I got bored of it now Im leveling WHM with some friends. Its nice to have fun leveling with friends. take a break from main job and go have fun. I mean isnt that the point of games? is to have fun? Make the game fun for you. :)

I agree on that point Ominub... whatever makes you happy stick to it.

Just as a question Omi, do you have a static party as a WHM?I have a Party I can role with, with My WHM, but I'll have to catch them from behind, I'm currectly 3 lvls behind... but they only come out at night so I'm going to grab them easy. (They are just a PLD/WAR and WHM/BLM duo from my LS, and they want me to hop on)

My lvl goal is just 50 with RDM, after then I'll just goof around... I'm going to try to complete all the unrepeatable quests and unlock all the advanced jobs. Also, of course I want to make a lot of money... the game is a lot more fun when gil isn't an issue.

I already took a break for the game... and it made me very happy.

When I got the game, it was awesome. FFXI was a totally new experience with an online community that had no rival. The discovery in the game was insanely involving. I could just run between the areas in awe...

Then, as I learned more about the game... got into a LS, met some friends, WHMed, tanked, got my Chocobom, got an advanced job... I had done just about everything. What discovery was there after that point? The only goals after achieving the advanced jobs are to relevel to 30, and then play the standard game of get your levels and armor. Rank 5 seems significant, because of the airship pass... but what more is there to discover?

There are a lot of video games being circulated. I'd love to play a few of them, but that's not possible with a game that requires 24/7 attention if you want to succeed.

I can still see some highlights in FFXI. It's fun to experience all of the jobs... and do awkward/unique things with your character. It's also fun to get some great screenshots.

Monthly payment for FFXI is a flaw, as I see it. I still play Diablo II, off and on, because I have some of the characters I worked toward. I also enjoy Diablo II because I can easily make side "template" characters. That is... eh, say I wanted to make a Pesmerga Paladin for the hell of it. Easy as pie in Diablo 2. Just make another Paladin named Pesmerga. It'd be possible to have well over 6 characters in Diablo II, and you could forget about a character for nearly a month, yet it'd still be there.

In FFXI, however... I cannot make characters for the hell of it. They cost extra money, and it takes a lot of effort to get a character leveled up. If extra characters did not cost extra money, I'd have probably have 3-4 character templates running around... and the game would be fun!

But no... I have to dedicate myself to RndmPerfection and Badrach to make sure my $14 a week is not wasted. Damn you SquareEnix.

I acctually created an Alternate character too... but he was created 100% for people who come over my house and want to screw around with my game. Yes, "Freakzilla" is back ;)

Like I said before, I'll do the straight lvling to 50, then go back and do quests and missions to revive my love for the game (if that happens). My own limit break will be based off of me making gil, I'm still trying to decide how much would make lvling a comfortable thing to do. (I find it much less fun when I have out-dated armor and I'm a step behind in spells)

I'm not bored of my job, Samurai is real fun like, and wicked like. Its the same routine over and over. I mean, exp parties are like 90% of the game, and they are NOT fun, seriously, all I do is sit there, wait for others to have tp ready, press crtl+whatever number, then repeat. Oh, and once in a while I'll die, and there goes 2-3 hours of my time. Wee.

And when I reach a certain lvl, time for money spending on new ****. It's not fun, its more of a chore. If this game was offline, it'd be one of the worst games ever. The people make it fun, thats it, thats all. But I need a break, so, yeah, taking a break.
