"The latest issue of Game Informer Magazine features an initial look at the upcoming first-person adventure sequel Metroid Prime 2. The name of the game is still tentative, and the magazine published few new details, but it did reveal some flashy new screenshots of Samus in action and we've been able to gather some concrete facts based on those.

The game will definitely feature a four-player split-screen mode. It appears that this mode will allow for full deathmatch-style competitions between four Samus characters. Each player will be able to carry weapons and morph into ball form during these matches.
A new character featured in one of the screenshots doesn't appear to be Samus, but looks similar. It's possible that this model is an enemy boss or a playable selection in the multiplayer mode.

Players can look forward to more giant boss battles. In another image, the heroine does battle with a hulking, worm-like beast.

The graphics do not appear to be drastically upgraded over Metroid Prime, but there are significant enhancements. In one image, Samus levitates inside of a watery bubble and her reflection is mirrored on the surrounding shell. It looks very pretty.

Expect much more on the game as we draw closer to E3 2004. "

:) It better be good!
I can imagine that they place power-ups in the level that makes you shoot special beams for a while. Morph stuff will be cool I guess...

Sure, it has multiplayer now. Will it still have multiplayer after nintendo of japan gets its chance to look at the game?

I doubt it.

Perfect Dark had multiplayer, I'm sure Nintendo had a look at that before it was released.

And btw, Nintendo is in close collaboration with Retro Studios so I'm sure that this won't be a problem.

that's really cool....but you can't help but imagine what it would be like online :(

24 player deathmatch, team matches...

but I hope the split screen works out well

Multiplayer is only to compete with Halo 2.

Man, I can't imagine anything enhanced in the Metroid Prime engine. That has got to rock!

There suppousedly going to be a lot more ball rolling elements...which really excites me, because they were just so much fun in it...I want loops and corkscrews and large cylinder things with holes on the bottom this time around...

Indeed it looks fine like turpintine...But wtf is that about Blitzball? Making a rip-off or something?

No... That was a caption. By the magazine. It was an attempt to be funny. See, in FFX, you played blitzball in a giant sphere of water. Samus is in a sphere of water in that pic. Thus, the magazine writers decided to put their blitzball comment as a caption.

Funny.

Anyway, I can not understand for the life of me why they would put a multiplayer mode in a Metroid game. Metroid is not a multiplayer game. There has never and should never be a red Samus fighting a blue Samus.

Its stupid.

Just because its in first person does not mean that there should be a FPS frag fest.

Ugh.

Anyway, the single player aspect is looking spiffy.

this is the only good news on this damn site. but i love metroid prime, and i always will..

has nintendo and microsoft joined forces yet? they need to get right on it!

hey, the first pic has too many samus' running around. take a look. two are standing up looking at each other, and two are morphballs, then there is a fifth standing up. this could mean two things. either bots, or System Link!

Its a multiplayer screen. There are only four people in that. Be deductive. The top and bottom left are looking at each other as are the right.

The player 1 screen has a samus (not morph ball) in it. Thats not one of the 4 human samus players. It must be a bot.

No no, the left bottom pic is looking at the morph ball. There are 3 samus' and 1 morph ball. No bots...

ok, we have established the two right side pics they are looking at each other.

lets look at the two on the left...

one morphball is looking at one samus

one morphball is looking at nothing

if the bottom left picture was the top left's view, you'd see a gun, but you dont.

besides, one ball is grayish, one is orangish.

both left pictures show the icon of a morphball... that means two are morphballs

anyone else understand what i am saying here?

GameKinG
04-15-2004, 04:34 PM
I do. Yes, the bottom left is not a view of a morph ball from a samus, but the person is a morphball. hence, bots.

Typhoid
04-15-2004, 09:28 PM
Its first person view...the bottom left is looking at the top left, and the top left is lookin at the bottom left. You can probably interchange views, look at the bottom right, it first person....And maybe when ur a ball, you see yourself in ball form..

its really simple. you have two views, and two views ONLY.

1. First person: in this view you can see your gun on the bottom right, like every other FPS. There is never an instance without the gun somewhere on the screen.

2. Morphball: you can see your morphball in third person.

The bottom left picture shows a human player as a morphball with an unmorphed samus in the distance. Its impossible for this samus to be another human player, it must be a bot.
