View Full Version : Would you risk it all?
Check this out from cnn:
-- A British man who sold all his possessions, including his clothes, stood in a rented tuxedo on Sunday surrounded by family and friends and bet everything on a single spin of the roulette wheel.

Would you consider doing something like that? IMO, it's too risky, even if you had better odds than 50/50.

It'd be fun. If you didn't mind having to work hard to regain your life back if you lost. He's getting a lot of media attention. I personally would not do it.

"I'm still against it," said his Dad. "He shouldn't have done it. He's a naughty boy.
I'm with his dad on this one. I would be incomprehensibly nervous while the wheel was spinning...I'm way too much of a wuss...

Wow, no way would I do that. His odds were less that 50/50, stupid 0, 00. Crazy fool.
I wouldn't be willing to start from square one, never.
Haha! I like the poll on that site. 92% no, and 8% yes.
Stupid gambling. No way. It might be fun for $10, but to have so much riding on it.. just.. no. Stupid.

The biggest risk is not taking one
that doesn't even make sense.
according to that theory, it would be impossible NOT to take a risk.

If you think about it, his chance of winning was close to 50% because he bet on red. There are only 3 colours, Red, Black and Green, but their are only 2 greens, so his percentage is pretty much a coin toss. Thinking back i would have done the same thing....I'd sell everything i have. but the thing is i dont really have anything, so if i won, id maybe come out with $300....I admire him....hes my new hero...Sorry Camfu

What about lying in bed? Or eating a sandwich....Or breathing? I dont see the risk in petting a fluffy bunny..so wheres all that risk?
Happydude
04-12-2004, 07:33 PM
well, lying in bed, you could fall off and die somehow, eating - choking hazard, breathing - posibility of inhaling toxic gases, and the bunny might bite you, give you rabies, or something else and you might die :p

What if you had a futon...The sandwich was mushed up, you had a gas mask, and the bunny was wearing a muzzle? Huh? Smart guy?lol....
Happydude
04-12-2004, 07:36 PM
you could still fall off a futon, you can still choke on a mushed up sandwich, the gas mask might not work properly, and the bunny might...erm...scrach you...or...something...

Studies have shown that just by being alive, you greatly increase your chances of dying.

I agree.
Problem is, he says that the biggest risk is NOT TAKING ONE
My point is...if 'not taking a a risk' is taking a risk, his point is cloudy at best.
Myself? I'm dishonest, honestly. You can always trust the dishonest ones, because they'll never be honest. It's the honest ones you gotta look out for...you never know when they'll do something incredibly...stupid...honestly

Lol. This thread has become increasingly interesting since I last posted here.
And that quote from PotC was a good one. :D I really liked that part of the movie.
And what I meant from my post was that by not taking a risk, you are in fact taking one. It's a paradox, really. For example, if you love someone but you are afraid to tell them about it becuase you fear the consequences. It would be a risk if you didnt tell them, because your love would never be recognized. But, by NOT telling them you are in fact taking another risk...the risk that they may never find out.
So, in accordance of Neo's topic, "would you risk it all", what risk is he talking about? Is he referring to the risk of making the gamble and loosing, or the risk of not making the gamble and never knowing if you would win?

hehe...I know exactly what you meant by it. Technically speaking, of course, it doesn't make a lick of sense :p
It's riskier NOT to take a risk than to actually take it. Didn't ask this one girl out? You didn't get shut down...but maybe she woulda said yes...maybe one day you'd be married. And you'd never know. Quite risky ;)
Moral of the story? I'm an ass...I like to mix things up, cause people to make point and counter point. :p And thanks for the quote props...Johnny Depp was genious
