View Full Version : XBox Live vs PS2 Online
Lately I've been getting interested in trying out the squad-based combat online....Something along the lines of socom or Rainbow Six 3. :sniper: I don't really know anything about Xbox live or PS2 online as far as which one is better. I know they each have a subscription fee but I don't know if they're the same or what. What do you, the viewers at home think? Please stop the tape now and complete the exercises in your assigned table groups. Flipchart your answers and be prepared to discuss.

Xbox live is THE best online service hands down. All broadband so minimum Lag. Voice enabled on every game. Chat rooms where you and your friends can talk even when not playing. Also, the most online games.
The price for xbox live for one year is $50 for the package and a year subscription. Every year after that is another 50 a year or 5 dollars a month, depending on what you want to pay.

Acebot, your avatar is freaky.
But anyway... Because I'm a 56ker I much go with Ps2 online and my precious FFXI and THPS. FFXI moves with no lag whatsoever, and THPS can lag, but only the other people, you will always move at full speed on your screen.
PC easily :p expecially for a FPS type game.
but just between the online noobs (consoles) PS2. open network, + free = better.
PS2 has NO subscription fee man. dunno where you heard that. you just hook it up and your on.
And just because its all broadband for xbox does NOT mean no lag, likewise just because PS2 has 56k'ers doesnt mean lag either. if your on broadband just cuz a person thats laggy or has a slow connection is on wont make you lag. your ping is your own.
So I can just hook up my PS2 to my current cable modem and that's that?

yup. you just go thro a small setup and register it and your on. no payments. only payments are if you have a game like FFXI that requires payments to play.

Since I dont play online THAT much, I'm really happy with PS2 online. I think XBL is the better service for someone who really wants to get involved with the whole online community thing...but I'd rather not pay until something like Halo 2 comes out.
To play a game like SOCOM 2 online:
-PS2
-Network Adapter
-functioning ISP
pretty much it
SOCOM's the only real good squad-based one on PS2. On Xbox Live, there's a ton. And it'll definitely be worth it for Halo 2. Besides, you have broadband. Might as well make use of it. I hate lag in online games from 56Kers in anything but PSO. :p
Yeah that's the thing, it might be worth it just to play Halo 2. All broadband is an attractive feature too.
 56k'ers dont cause you to lag. its just them thats lagging.
sAY WHat
you mean we don't have to wait for them like in starcraft or warcraft?

waiting for them is not making you lag. and thats in that gametype.
in a gametype like a FPS unless its coded wrong, it should appear normal, but only choppy on the low connection persons screen. That not the game type we're talkin about?

It seems like a lot of you have no idea what you're talking about. Lesse, Playstation2Online has no subscription fee, and has a lot of good games for it. You guys fail to mention all the Basketball and Sports games that PS2 has online.... is this all about FPS' and RPG's? PS2 has tons of Sports, RPG's, and FPS thats online now.
And for those of you who think that outside 56k users can cause you lag, you seriously need lessons in Common Sense. If they're connection is slow, doesn't mean the network is slow... get it straight, your ping will be whatever your connection is.... they'll lag, not you.
PS2O Rules all! Free rules all! Smaller consoles rule all!

PS2 online has treated me very well. But some of my friends have XBL, and they love it.
