I've been playing Savage for a long time now, and I guess it suddenly hit me that I should find out who plays it on here.

For those of you who don't know what Savage is, it is two kinds of games. A Real-Time Strategy game and an action game. It's also completely online. Not in the sense of a MMORPG, but in the sense that there is no single player mode, it's all played as hour long matches between real people online.

There are two teams, Human and Beast. Most games are played as such, Humans vs. Beast. However it can be any combination.

You have the option to command or be a player. If you are the commander, then the game is viewed top-down and is played as a real-time strategy game like Age of Empires or Starcraft. You build stuff, get weapon upgrades, and tell the players what to do. Who to attack, when to mine, where to move, etc. Objective of the game is to protect your stronghold while building offense to destroy the enemy's stronghold.

As a player, you generally get to do whatever you want or think is best for the team. It is your choice to listen to the commander when given a command. If you have a good commander that knows the map, it's generally a good idea to listen. But if you know the map then it's just as important to listen to yourself as it is the commander.

Just about the best game I've ever played, definately something everybody should pick up considering it's $30 off the shelf and has no monthly online fee.

Anyway... Anybody play it?

i've played it. it as a very cool idea in it.

But neither side of that idea are implimented all that great.

the RTS part was decent but not great. and the action part of it was only decent also. Perhaps future games will put this idea together with a bit more 'oompf' to it.

and no many games have montly fee's man, no need to really bold that :P

Not many games that are completely online are free.

I would imagine you played back before version 2.0, which was definately lackluster. The new versions have new casts, weapons, better balance between the two species, etc.

well is there a demo of version 2.0 to try?

And thats an odd statment, completely online just means they didnt add a single player. nothing more nothing less. There are games that can do a lot more online plus have a single player and are free.

there really just arent that many you have to pay for. a few MMORPG's and thats about it. only because its always played on certain 'official' servers that the company needs money to keep up. Most PC games servers are setup by the ppl and therefor no payments.

Yeah, there's a new demo here:

I think only humans are playable on it, though. And you're obviously required to play on the demo servers.

As to the fact that they don't have a single player portion in the game, it would be like SWG having single player. There's no point. The games ideology would be nullified by having a single player portion.

There are TONS of dedicated servers that play map after map 24/7. www.blackknightsclan.com hosts a dedicated server with hour long 48 person matches. www.savagegrounds.com hosts hour long 64 person matches. Those two are just my two favorites.

I don't know. I didn't think the game was that great until I got the retail copy, and now I can't get enough of it.

well SWG is a bit differnt. But that wasnt my point. i wasnt compaining about no single player, i was just saying thats the only diff from that and other online games. its not like it has more online then others. just that most are free.

And i only play online anyway. i dont play single player on really any games anymore.

I'll give it a try again sometime. Just downloaded the beta demo for Join Operations. hehe. crazyness in there. there be servers with 100 ppl in it.

UT04 still the best new game currently. and i wish HL2 would hurry up.

If the Beta is any indication... I can hardly wait to be blown off of my feet.

Lol, there's another game called savage and I played it. :D
In that game, you play a lion and you have to do lion stuff. Like hunting on zebra's... drinking. I also found a human camp, I ate some.

That was a stupid game... I kept dying because I couldn't catch the zebra thingies.
