Looking at a lot of the new SF movies and books out, I was kinda wondering which you prefered, the blow it up, kill em all, space warfare variety, or the more speculative HG Wells/ Clarke (for lack of a better explanation) variety?

Yeah, I like the psychological/speculative type.

I like a speculative film with stuff blowing up in the background.

I prefer the more realistic science fiction. The people who would go through the care to make their sci-fi realistic also usually go through the care to make it good and meaningful as well.

Well I gotta go with the blow'em up sci-fi. Although I do like the other stuff sometimes. Of course, star wars is somewhere in the middle there.

Well, its really hard to classify Star Wars as science fiction...the classic trilogy anyway. Its more of a fantasy with lasers than sci-fi.

I must agree with Ginky. Realistic scifi is an oxymoron, but some people can still manage to pull it off. And when they do, it's spectacular.
