Since basically everyone in here has been here for awhile, I was wondering, what do people miss about the "old gametavern" or the old NDose, or the old NDolphin, what ever... I mean,
This have changed a lot, and, I've talked with a lot of you on AIM, and it just seems like somethings missing...
I know I miss the sword fights and watching people beat eachother up in brackets... and a lot of the other members...
what kinda stuff you think is different, better or worse, which ever...

It just doesn't feel the same, period. One main reason was back in Ndose or whatever, were we still thinking about Project Dolphin? Or was GCN allready announced? Because I remember all the speculation and opinions on Dolphin is why I posted and read the forums.
I only posted in the Dolphin forum at Ndose, and I only had like 50 odd posts. Then when GameTavern opened up, I still did not post much in the General forum.... But then I picked up the pace at some point, lol.
Anyways... There are too many new people, and I think all the members are getting too old to do this, lol. I mean, a lot of us are busy with school, and university is coming up for many of us too. Different priorities perhaps is the reason why I don't find this forum as enjoyable as it once was.
Still a great site though. Just not as "close" of a community as it once was.

I remember back at NDose that Dolphin was still being speculated about and the 'Cube was announced as NDose was still running back then.
I too only had 50 or so posts before NDose went down and I made my choice to go with GT. Most people don't know who I was back at NDose, but thats understandable:p

Oh, I also liked to make fun of Jonbo and that other guy... But then it just got old, lol. That was fun.

I miss Joiess the ass hole. Well not really, but seirously a lot of people didnt like you much. Youve seemed to have gotten better the last few months though. Anyways, I'll admit it isnt quite like it used to be. I agree with Joiess when he says its because weve all gotten older and moved on to different things. Hopefully things will pick up when we really start hearing concrete details about the next generation. But I do kinda miss not having a homepage anymore. Yea, definatley miss that for sure.

Sorry to butt my face into here. But I understand what you're talking about (though not related to GT in any way). A lot of the reason is mystery. You don't know the people. and you don't quite act yourself. The group as a whole experiences new things.
But, after a point... everyone is talking on AIM and there's no more mystery. You know who you like, and you know who you dislike. Eventually, it's just news and newbs.
Then again... there is one upside for you guys. One sweet and simple sentence that will set you apart from even the most pseudo-elitist newbs out there:
"I was at GT before it went pop"
I on the other hand, still consider myself an SJP faithful. GT's a side gig.

I dunno, it always seems the same to me. I've been at N-Dose/GT for over three years now, but I was never terribly, terribly involved in anything. I usually come to the site every day, but only occasionally do I feel like posting about it, hence the somewhat low post count. Gametavern is an online community and nothing more...It's hard for me to say that anything is better or worse, because I don't really have a personal connection with anyone here, don't talk to people on AIM or anything. I still have fun posting my opinions here on certain things and probably will for a while, despite changes of people and such. Getting older could have something to do with it, I know that sometimes it feels a bit strange to be posting here when I'm a legal adult, but there are plenty of other's my age and older, so meh.

I agree that the spculation and youth of it is gone, but, I do know, any other ideas?

A lot of it is just the coming and going of members. A lot of the people from NDose or the beginning days of GT have left or don't post as much.
And I think we've become bigger in the sense of number of currently active members, which means that's there's a lot less sense of a community as a whole. Back when I first joined NDose, there was a big "anti-n00b" thing going on in the entire forum. Nearly everybody participated (that I could see from my then n00b-ish viewpoint). We don't have anything like that anymore. Its more like a conglomeration (is that right?) of sub-groups made of people who have come from different forums who have shut down or people who know each other in real life (not dissing you, just a fact). Then of course there are the veteran members who have been here from the early days of GT and some even from NDose.
The best analogoy that I can think of is a classroom and grade in elementary school. In elementary school, most people in one classroom get to know each other fairly well. They may not like all of the other people, but they're more or less comfortable with them. GT used to be like a classroom. There were few enough members that most members knew most other members fairly well.
Then you have the whole grade. A person in, say, 1st grade probably does not know everybody else in 1st grade, at least not very well. He/she may be able to recognize a few people and may be friends with a few people from different classrooms, but mostly his/her social interaction is contained in that one classroom (excepting recess). GT is now more like a grade. One member really only knows a few other members and probably only really socializes with that few, excepting things like Survivor or the character battles that encompass everyone.
I know it not very good, and I apologize if it didn't make sense. If someone understood it and think they can do better, you probably can...

I know what you mean, I remember the days of back then. Man were those the days....
Perhaps we could change the Black Project Forum into the "Anti-N00b Society" to commemorate all us old farts.
GameMaster

I second that notion! Let us make it exclusive to people who joined 2001 or earlier.

And we can start selling newb shotties again! I've always wanted to point one of those at someone!

Funny you say though, because I only got access to this forum about a week ago, even though I'm an old-head.

Lol. I just gained access here. But I like it here. I got here because of Dyne.
We used to be a part of a forum called Electronic Gaming World. It was great. It was at the point where all the VB2 hacks were coming out. We had an arcade and all sorts of cool things. But some guy had a vendetta against Dyne (Who was an admin) and he got the site shut down. We tried to regroup our members but sadly lost quite a few of our most beloved members forever. Our attempts had failed and we all lost touch with eachother. Now It's just Dyne and I that are regular posters here with the odd post from Nemesis (who used to be called Blix).
But I have to say I'm enjoying your company and I'm glad Dyne hooked me up with Crono and DarkMaster who turned me on to this website. (Back when GamingNow was still functional.)
Here's to more good times!

People really didn't like me? Lol... its just a videogame forum, haha.
And just remember Jason, I was the only one who voted for you in Survivor back when I participated in it. :D
That's what we need! Another Survivor! Oh wait.. we just had one.
My bad.

It's hard to put my finger on it, but what's already been stated in this thread is probably true... A lot of the 'old' regulars (dating back from atleast N'dose) have either left or just aren't posting as much. I guess some of us have just had a few, 'big' changes in our lives in the past few years, and managing time has become alot more important.
Whatever happened to gamingnow anyway?

Whatever happened to gamingnow anyway?
I was one of the original writers of GamingNow. I posted more news than any other writer. I kept posting up till the final days. There were these "plans" for a bigger and better site to launch. I wrote countless news articles, and countless reviews, and even an editorial for the site. But the new site never came, and when I realized I was the only News writer actually posting news, I quite.

Me too. But nothing's happened for a while, it looks like. o_O
Segaman needed my help so badly on the new layout for Gamingnow. That's why it never came. He was such an arrogant prick that he didn't deserve any help. He was ordering me around to do stuff at one point.

There's where you're wrong my friend, as Segaman never needed your help, but only asked for it when you were on the staff, although I think it was implied that you should help being a member of the administration.
What happened to GamingNow? Nothing, thats why its the same way its been since October.

Forums are the only teenager-based webpages that last. They require no work ethic and minimal updating.
BTW, Designing something and running something are two completely different things. Designing is fun, running is not. Hell, I should know... I design and ran an online RPG.
As well, being assistant to a website rather than a founder/cofounder is also easier. Work ethic is enhanced because if something goes wrong, you don't have to take responsibility. I also know this, as I've been an assistant before, and had assistants before.
Finally, the creator of anything that requires upkeep has total control over its run-time. If you fellas want to go make GamingTHEN! on your own time, go ahead and lemme see how it works out.

I'm sorry, but seriously, the kid didn't even know what PHP was before he met me.
I was glad to help, actually, but he wanted me to do so much crap it was ridiculous. He blew up at me when I said that he should try some of that stuff for himself. He definitely had that designing/running problem.

He doesn't have to say anything, he was making PHP layouts before he even knew you, and I know this because they were made for me.

I miss GamingNow. Those were good times. I didn't get to talk to Segaman much. But when I did, he seemed quite hostile. But I guess I don't really know him.
It sounds to me like you knew him just fine
