Now that Survivor is over I can turn my attention to other things such as rolling out the new style, finding a replacement for Stu, upgrading the boards, and taking another look at reputation.

It's been a few months since we rolled out the reputation system and I wanted to get a feel for whether or not it's been working. If you have any opinions one way or another, now is the time to chime in. Below I've pasted the general rules as a refresher. I've also updated the ranks up to a rep of 3000.

Every member has certain privileges which is based on their amount of reputation. Please note that your privileges are not based on the number of posts you’ve accumulated. The rank which appears under your name is the only thing that is post count dependent. In addition, you will gain 1 gold star for every 1000 posts up to 5000.

It’s in your best interest to build your reputation as it determines what you’re actually able to do in the forums. There are four promotional groups which you can reach by having a specific level of reputation.

P0 (registered user)
P1 Bronze (500 reputation)
P2 Silver (1000 reputation)
P3 Gold (1500 reputation)
P4 Platinum (2000 reputation)

You gain 1 points of rep for every positive ratings. Ratings are made by clicking on the shout icon on the lower right corner of someone's post. If you receive 1 positives on 50 of your posts, that's 50 points of positive rep for you. This system will be tweaked based on how often people actually give ratings.

Your initial rep is based on the number of posts you have. This is because the number of doubloons you had was roughly dependent on your post count. If you did not get your conversion yet speak to either me or Bond. I updated about 60 of you so far.

You gain one green pip for every 10 rep and a bright green pip for every 20 rep. This is hardcoded and cannot be changed yet. I realize those current values don't work well with our rating system. Plus the max number of pips you can have now is 11.

Is Stu leaving or is he just retiring from his moderator position?

I think the reputation system is ok. The only thing I miss is that with doubloons we could give/receive different amounts for different things. Like if someone makes a good post or something, one +rep is fine but if someone does me a favor or makes me a banner or something, I'd like to give them a bigger prize, in the past I've just had to +rep them for a couple posts. Its good though.

Oh also, can you post all the different reputation level messages in order, I'm just curious. Like some say, "has a reputation beyond repute". I'm just curious to know what they all are, and their order.

I'm personally not in favor of it, but I don't suppose I'm going to get a whole lot of voice on the matter. It's cool, but I think that limiting peoples functionality on the forums is lame (based on rep at least). It's just not an accurate system to tracking the 1337 people on the forums and rewarding them. As it is now, there are a lot of very well respected people on this board that are going to get the bad end of the deal. There are many people I have great respect for with lower rep than those who don't have my respect. Often just because they're not scoping out "post here for rep" threads (exaggerated obviously, but you get my point).
I guess if I want all of those fancy shmancy features I'll have to work to get a higher rep count.

But sometimes it's the things that don't get posted that add to my view of a person. Really cool idea, but it sounds like a lot of work, and for the wrong reason.

Edit:
Is Stu leaving or is he just retiring from his moderator position?

He's leaving for now. http://www.gametavern.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7751

Oh, about moderating. Can I have mod powers in in the contest forum for the duration of the character battle?

I like the system... more positive Rep is being dished out than negitive Rep, so it's cool. As for finding a replacement for Stu as a mod, if you want me to work again just say the word.

I can change my name? Sweet. I'll have to consider that someday. Can't be the same ol' Rndm forever =¬Þ

oh yes, how do i change my user name? i havent figured it out yet

and the dubloon system was pretty cool too, i think i even liked it more then the rep system. but if they were to merge into one super rep-loon:hmm: system, that would be uber cool :p

Not really apply; I'm mainly looking for someone who will generate discussion

is there anyway for us to know how much rep-altering points we have?

If it doesn't show up I might be able to add a user profile field.

Easiest way to know how much rep-altering points you have is to have someone be online at the same time, find out how much rep they have before, then give then +rep and then after that just do the simple math.

And Neo, your little copy/paste mistake is still there from the other rep rules post.
P2 Silver (1000 reputation)
P3 Gold (1000 reputation)

And I like to generate discussion:D:p

And also, I like the rep system. Its not too bad, but I liked the doubloon system more. The only thing I would've changed from the doubloon days was maybe give more incentives for trading in doubloons for stuff.

looks like one +Rep from good ol me gives you 19 points ;)

Neo

I've discovered as well that when you post negative rep, the value is only half of your current rep-altering power.

If anyone wants to be a moderator let me know. I may hire a couple to either replace or compliment our current staff. Being responsible and a regular visitor are as always important requirements, but my main concern right now is in generating discussion, especially in the slower forums.

I was never really a huge fan of either the dobloon or the rep systems. Couldnt really pick one over the other for sure. Anyways, I was wondering, how can we tell what promotional level we are at?

Oh and I also wouldnt mind being a mod somewhere(I definatley think I visit often enough) I sent you a PM neo.

Lowering reputation sytem pisses me off. Sometimes when I do something wrong I get like 5 negative reps at the same time. It's really annoying because it's from the same person.

I'm interested in being a mod, if you need one. I am one of the older members at this forum and my postage has increased greatly since my stint with no internet connection.
