*sigh*

i think i may have a slight bad problem with AstonShell.

i cant boot up wwindows, after the boot screen (the scroll thing) it just restarts after having a blue screen with like 4 lines of writing tand the last line is "The computer has been shut down".

anyone know how i can fix this? is there anyway to get any of the shells running without having to reformat?

any help is appreciated, thanx.

ohhhh i warned ppl about messing with the windows shell. but do they listen? noooo.

you'll either have to edit a file in dos, or if you have linux get into it like that. POSSIBLY if your network can get into the computer while its on change it thro there.

theres an ini file i think in the system folder and you have to set something back to explore.exe

i'll check it out later when i get home, or you can look at the help files on the aston webpage.

btw. what windows do you have?

in windows 98 i think, you had to change a line to shell=explorer.exe under the [boot] section of c:\windows\system.ini

but i think its differnt in win XP

nboth shells worked for me before, its just that now i swtiched them i safe mode and they stopped working, anyway...i looked over ther help stuff on the Aston forums and couldnt find anything that would help me.

i also emailed support, hopefully they'll email me back soon...

there should be a FAQ file on your download that might answer it. look where it installed. look for a readme or anything.

If your booting is ****ed up and not working and you have the XP cd, just pop it in and do a repair of XP. You won't lose any data, but it will reset your boot settings and whatnot and you'll be back into windows within a half hour to an hour.

And if your editing your bootscreen, StyleXP2 does a much better job of not ****ing up your bootscreen because it makes 2 "seperate" bootscreens. So if something should go haywire with the bootscreen you just tried using, as windows is coming up you can just choose the standard windows bootscreen.

If you want to use StyleXP 2, and need a keygen, let me know and I can send ya a keygen that works.

he was editing shell, a lot differnt the editing boot screen.

the fix on the startup MIGHT fix it. it might not, not sure how much repair goes into fixing the shell files

Yeah, I'm not sure how far the XP repair goes. But it never hurts to try.
