Every year St. Paul has this winter carnival for a couple of weeks and they do parades and shows and once in awhile build an ice palace (maybe they'll show it when they do the NHL Allstar game cause its right next to the arena) like this year, but the biggest thing that they have is the treasure hunt.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press(city paper) and some sponsors hide a medallion in a St. Paul city park and every day for like two weeks they print a clue in the paper. Finding the medallion can be worth up to 10,000 dollars, and free year of groceries this year.
Well tomorrow is the last clue, and I think I'm going to go looking because it hasn't been found yet. They've been doing this for years, and its always been found every year.
Any other cities do this kind of thing? I think its kind of cool. One year I knew which park it was at on like the third clue, but I never went looking cause I couldn't. You think it worth the time to go looking? It's easy money if you ever found it. The last clues pretty much give away the park anyways, its just a matter of finding the right spot in the park.

Why wouldn't you do it? What have you got to lose?
Sounds cool, we don't have anything like that here.
Anyway, whether its worth a lot or not, simply finding a medallion is a cool thing on its own.
Happy hunting!
If you win, be sure to get down with your bad self.
Virtually all of Quebec does it. Winter Festival. It's even got it's own mascot. Bonhomme du neige.
It's been running for a really long time.
We would have some in other parts of Canada, but most of us don't have enough snow this time of year.

The only thing that sucks is that we've been hit with over a foot of snow the last two days, which makes it a little harder to look for the medallion.
Oh yeah, its a plastic medallion so that people can't use medal detectors. I think last year it was found wrapped in a diaper. Some lady found the diaper and thought it was trash and left it alone...how sad for her, someone else unwrapped the diaper and the medallion was inside.

Was the diaper soiled or fresh?

That sounds really cool. I wish I lived in a place that did that sort of thing. Even if I didn't find it, the fun is in figuring out the clues. But the money is definately a GREAT bonus.

Wow, that sounds really awsome. No where that I have lived does anything like that (as far as I know), but it sounds like great idea. It sounds like something that can really bring a community together! Awsome, GOOD LUCK!

It was found this morning, the couple who found it won $5000 plus a year of groceries, could have been $10,000 if they had a registered carnival button. There were so many people at the park looking for this thing. The last clue practically gave the medallion away, but it still took a while for somebody to find it because there was so much snow on the ground.

Bring a community together or promote total anarchy and chaos.. Either or it works..

Theoretical anarchy, in and of itself, by those who honestly believe it is the correct way to run a "country" does bring people closer together. It is that community which enables the lack of laws and government to work. However, that theoretical anarchy is realistically impossible.
