I have an Asus 9600XT and it's been doing great for me. No complaints so far. But if you have the money, get it. You won't be disappointed.

i do have the money, or im saving up. like a few more dollars. Im gonna order it from newegg.com Are they reliable? Ive never ordered something this expensive before. i hear that they are fast, and they also have a 3 year warranty. the reason i dont wanna buy the 9700 or 9800 is because they are too damned expensive!! this'll last me a good while, right? I can play HL2 on it as well? BTW, this is my comp....it DOES have an AGP slot right?

If your looking for something more in the 200 dollar or less range, ive got a Radeon 9500pro that really holds its own...outperforms the Geforce 4 TI 4200, and is almost on par with the Radeon 9600. Full DX9 capabilites, 8xAGP, 8 million pixel pipline, the works :D

I would definately suggest this guy:

http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/simprod.asp?pid=8301&ad=pwatch

ATI 9600XT 128MB DDR (there's actually no need for the 256, or so say every benchmark I've seen). Free Half Life 2 Coupon Included. All for $169.00.

Take a look. I would personally suggest ATI. ATI Cards render things prettier, although GeForce cards do give you a slight up in FPS. Personal preference, I like better rendering.

Check out the tests:

Don't get the 5200. Its a major waste of money. Almost anything below the FX5700 Ultra is useless.

Hey, sorry I missed this post before. Yeah, the computer on there has an AGP slot. So don't worry about it.

Depends on the product your comparing to on the lower end models. I've heard that its the same as a GeForce2/3 with DX9 support. Hell, the 5600 will barely be able to use DX9 games. But if you only care about games released before, then a 5200 won't hurt. Just don't expect to be able to play high end games/future games as well.

And honestly, if you want to just play partially past games, just get a ti video card from nvidia.

Nah. As long as one got a nice 5600 they'd be fine. My friend has one and I think it'll last him a while.

But I still say get the ATI Radeon 9600XT. :D

It should be fine for a good year or year and a half. Maybe longer, depending. But until Ati rolls out their next line of cards and slashes prices on the older models, you'll be fine with the 9600XT. I won't be upgrading until either mid this year or sometime in the fall/winter when ati rolls out their next line of cards and hopefully slash the 9800 prices.

Yeah. I wouldn't worry about it for a while. You've got a good 2 years on that. And after that, you can still use it, you'll just have to be a tiny bit sparing on the settings for your games.
