well in 1 1/2 to 2 years we'll be seeing some new faces in the game, and some old ones as well so lets see the candidates for the next generation.

Nintendo "N5": will it be Nintendo's last hope or will it be the true successor to the GameCube?

Nintendo's unnamed hardware project: will it be good or just a wannabe Virtual Boy?

Sony "Playstation 3": destined to be everyones favorite, Sony returns to the front lines of the console war, but with all the new consoles will Sony be giving up or just starting?

Microsoft "X-Box 2": Bill Gates' long awaited console will show up in the new generation, but will it satisfy the japanese audience?

Infinium Labs "The Phantom": though it was to be released in public in November of last year, this entry has not seen much light, the "easy to play even if you're a kid" console is new to this console war but its disguised as a PC. ( as was the X-Box )

Apex "ApeXtreme": this newly annouced console wants to beat Sony yet again, but will the X-Box shaped console survive with all the success of Sony?

"Next" Nintendo GameBoy: The king of the throne of handhelds, the "next" gameboy has not been shown the light (no pun intended) but everyone will be sure to notice this little handheld's bigass punch

"Playstation Portable" (PSP): Sony's first big entry to the handheld business, the specs are good but will this little one achieve what all others have failed in doing?

there are others that are yet to be announced but i see great future in all of them and i hope that there be more reason to buy a great console such as these aforementioned above.

just one thing bothers me: did i miss one?

Aren't game makers getting pissed off because there are too many consoles now? Or will be too many consoles.

With all the consoles coming out, loyalty to one's franchise may be important. If your favorite franchise doesn't get enough money, other consoles are going to get the games you want... and I know that no-one here will want to purchase all the consoles.

You know me... promoting fanboy-ism. I just want something to laugh at!

I don't want to purchase all the consoles. At least 2 on there are meaningless to CONSOLE GAMING. (in case your still thinking which ones, Its the Phantom and the ApeXtreme).

I see dark days ahead for consumers in gaming. (or however you want to phrase that)

Well.. reminds me of the Sega Nomad. Genesis was really popular over here. They thought this Nomad would sell off the "Sega" brand. Unfortunately, it was so pricey, it didn't sell much, and I don't think they shipped much either. But, Sony wants to make this the discman of the next century? Haha... they can quit dreaming. I've never ever been sold on console hype.

Not enough info on any of the systems...but Playstation will likely remain the brand of choice, which makes for the most developer support, hardware features, etc.

PSP could be so much...if that thing plays movies, I'll buy one in a minute. I'd keep it next to my sleeping quarters and whenever I wake up or can't sleep I'll plug in the headphones and enjoy a good movie :p

PS3 should be awesome too...who knows, though.

Well, as everyone already knows, N5 will without a doubt, sink all the other consoles in it's mighty waters. And the Gameboy Future, will put the PSP to an early eternal rest (at least that'll save Sony some money).

Yeah, so, N5 will definatley be the come-back console for Nintendo making up for Gamecube's off performance.

Too many consoles. I mean really, this is ridiculus. I always thought having more than one console on the market was idiotic.

For example, you dont need a VCR for every company that produces movies, do you? You dont need a different DVD player for every company that makes movies, do you?

Why do I need to own a different console to play my favorite games? I think there should be one universal system. I dont care if the different compaines make their own, but I think it should be able to play every video game on the market.

Just like a DVD player. Different companies make them, but I just have to own one.

But, that will never happen. So, speaking realistically, here are the systems I will own:

N5
PS3
"next" gameboy

Thats all Im fooling with.

I think 3 different consoles is too many, not just those "nonames" that die out.

Hmm. You never know, N5 might rock our world.

if there was no consoles, nintendo, sega, etc. WOULD be making games for computers.

therefor making them even better. :p

but think about this: the keyboard (which i hate BTW but just for games)

too many buttons for a control so therefore console controllers are better (except for FPS games)

but think about this, PC's HAVE controllers, just as any console. many that look the same. AND adapters to make any console controller work on PC.

BUT, the controller adapters would not have been in existance in the first place, were it not for consoles. and the fact that those PC controllers would also not be in existance.

PC Gaming is fun for solo or online play... but there is nothing... NOTHING like 16-player Halo in one household. Trying that with computers would be messy as hell. And yes, hell is messy.

Wireless network solves that problem:D

Thats true but then agian all a console is, is a PC nicely pagaged smaller and built for one reason to play games, where as computer have the customize and is good for lots of things.

They both have there ups and downs thats why I plan to buy most if not all the major consoles (ps3, xbox 2, and Mabey the N5 soo far my Game Cube was a waste of money) and still keep my computer up to date so I can beat it on the console and awe at it on the computer.

Jonbo298

Now that i think about it. 16 Player halo in a household would be almost as messy. you still have wires to contend with (or just have a wireless network :-p)

please please please! lets forget that. Wish we could forget that game was ever made for PC.

one of the biggest dissapointments and flops of PC FPS in a while. (not the worst, but the biggest dissapointment because of the hype) That game was in NO way what PC FPS gamers wanted. even the pc game mags were rippin on it. It got outshined by 5 year old pc fps games.

And for the one who said nothign compares to a 16 player halo in same house. What are you smoking? Try a 32 player LAN in the same house, and yes, its not that messy, wireless networks and new PCs not whole lot bigger then the gamecube.
Then ontop of that, Try a couple hundred player LAN in a big building. aka, quakecon etc. not all playin the same game, but plenty to fill up each game played.
nothing compares? HA, thats smallstuff compared to PC partys.

"Aren't game makers getting pissed off because there are too many consoles now? "

No, none of them support phantom or apex. That crap wont sell.

Null
01-08-2004, 11:37 AM
didnt the phantom use PC games? therefor it would already be suported.

still wont sell tho, because no one would buy that when they could use the PC. but still, would be suported kinda.

(or maybe im thinkin of a different one)

Jonbo298

As far as I know, the Phantom can only play PC games that are downloaded into it from the network (whatever the phantom network is)
