So.... I ordered up an I trip on Saturday and it finally made it here today. (not bad, 3 days (tue, wed, fri) via USPS.) For those of you not familiar with the Itrip here's how it works.
It's an accessory for Ipod.
It plugs into the remote/headphone jac on top of the 3g Ipod. On the 1g/2g it goes into the firewire/headphone jac.
The product comes with a CD that you install on your pc/mac.
The CD uploads a list of "stations" that correspond with every odd numbered station on the radio from 87.9 fm to 107.9 fm. When you plug it in, you have to select a station that is clear in your area, the Itrip then broadcasts to that station so you can listen to your ipod on any FM radio.
$34.99 http://www.thinkdifferentstore.com/images/lg/4013-2TRIP.jpg
I was expecting this product to work, which is about all you can expect. It's advertised to work up to 30ft away. I figured I'd get 5-10. I also figured that I'd have trouble finding an open frequency (Chicago's FM band is quite crowded) I was wrong on both counts. I was able to get at least 25 feet, through 2 walls, I was also able to find a station without any problem. So far I haven't tried it in my car, but I have been able to get it to work on two different radios. The Itrip has gone above and beyond everything I had hoped for. You do lose a little bit of sound quality (it'll never sound better than FM radio) and if you're using itunes on windows it takes a bit of tinkering to put the playlist of stations in the right spot but otherwise it's absolutely perfect!
If you've heard of this and been on the fence, buy it, it works. If you've never heard of it you may want to look into it.
BEST. ACCESSORY. EVER.
