So lately I've been seeing adverts for SSX3 and Amped 2. In 1,5 week, 1080 will be launched.
Which do you think is the best?
Amped 2 has good graphics, but I heard that the original wasn't anything special.
SSX3 has insane stunting AND I think it has interactive environment. Decent graphics.
1080 A has realistic boarding and very interactive environments. From what I've seen, the graphics are poor.

What reviews are out yet? What are you gonna get? :)

Hm, to answer my own question:

The impressions of Gamespot and IGN of 1080 are very good!! It looks better than I thought, it's FAST, the environment is going to be sooo cool.
Besides: 4-player! :D
Seems Amped 2 concentrates on tricks and online.
I'm really looking forward to 1080 now!

I didn't like how spinning was controlled on 1080 for N64. If this game is the same way SSX3 will remain my favorite by far.

ssx 3 has the best graphics, controls, tricks. +online.

leaves the other 2 burried in the snow.

Thats where your wrong. Graphics, possibly...1080 looks much more like your actually boarding down an acutal mountain, if that means anything to you. But if your talking textures, and all that garbage, then yea SSX has 1080 beat im sure. As for controls and tricks...
1080 p0wns SSX here. The way you had to balance your board after a jump was intuitive and worked quite well...and tricks are way to easy to pull of in SSX. So freaking easy...I was getting tricky no problem on SSX tricky, and pulling off the hardest stunts there were without problems...1080 on the other hand(and im referring to the N64 version when I say this), the tricks were a lot harder to pull off, which made it that much more enjoyable when you did pull off the hard ones.

SSX all the way.

I hate amped. Ok, so I only played it for about 5 minutes, but I've actually been skiing before (never snowboarded) you know what realistic snow sports do, they hurt. I don' want a really realistic game, I want a fun game and that's what SSX delivers.

Not if you actually learn how to not fall on your ass.

Yeah.. both the Ampeds aren't really fun to play. My favourite thing about the whole series is probably the "Dag Yo" commercial. :P

SSX3.. awesome gameplay. The graphics are good, but not as good as Amped or 1080. I'd play this.

1080... loved the original, I can't wait for Avalanche. The graphics are good, and the gameplay is good. I'd choose this as second choice.

I'm getting both SSX3 and 1080 for Christmas.. my bro's getting 1080 while I'm getting SSX3.

Um, take SSX3 for a spin the the top of the peaks before you get to the set up tracks. I haven't seen a snowboard games that realistic ever.

Just because it's hard it doesn't make pulling it off enjoyable. 1080 for N64 was a good game, but pulling off tricks were just fustrating. I remember so many times doing The Big Air event and always messing up.

I find it retarded that I could pull off 3 '360's but it not count as a 1080.

I love extreme sports games, but 1080 just didn't satisfy in the area of tricks. I don't understand why and snowboard game would require button combinations just to pull off a spin.

Jason, I have some bad news, Justin, I have some good news:
The trick system is totally changed in Avalanche. With R you can spin (and flip), with B,Y and X you grab.
When on the ground, holding L makes you go fasters (like Z in 1080°), when on rails or something L makes you grind and when you land, L gives you a good landing or something. A jumps of course.

If I had to choose between the over-the-top-stunt game SSX or the realistic 1080°, I'd choose 1080°.
I don't like Tony Hawk that much... Tricks are fun, but not as fun as realistic racing. :D

I played the N64 version last weekend, I gotta admit it's a wonderful game. Except the trick system but that's going to be improved now. :)

IMO, id just let then get rid of racing all together, i hates it. Doesnt take skill to learn a map and go thro the shortcuts (ssx im talking, dunno bout 1080).

But luckily in SSX i dont have to race. :) i prefer to do point matches. much more fun to make jumps and tricks out of nothing. along a course.

On SSX I do both racing and freestyle. But tricks are an important part of both for some reason.. needz the boost.

play online. the top racers will just memorize the map and take the biggest shortcuts.

at the end it tells you how many tricks each do. and they always do under 10. sometimes like 1 or 2 tricks the whole race.

Haven't played Amped 2 or 1080, but I can't imagine them being any better than SSX3...it's the game of the year so far for me...I'm having a dangerous amount of fun with this game.

Graphics - 9
Gameplay - 9.5
Presentation - 10
Sound - 9.5
Fun Factor - 9.5

Simply amazing...everyone needs to play this game.

Oh, and I enjoy both racing and freestyle. Racing can get really intense, and with the music and the digital surround sound...AWESOME experience. Freestyle is just plain FUN.

7.5, 7.0, 5.5 - EGM (The thrill of speed. The agony of a busted tricks system.)

sorry, but not even close to SSX3

But the thing is, some people hate the 1080 N64 trick system...I loved it. I will definatley be picking up the better game, 1080 Avalanche.

Well, normally I wouldn't buy 1080 because I already have a stellar snowboard game(SSX 3), BUT 1080 is going to be compatible with warp pipe...so I just might get it.

I wouldn't have even considered paying the 80 bucks cdn for it if it didn't have the option of plaing online.

Well, I wouldnt even attempt to argue that SSX3 is a more realistic snowboarder.

1080's physics are much better and realistic, mostly because the whole aim for SSX is to be arcadey and unrealistic.

But there is no reason you cant own both, 1080 is a Racing game with a trick mode, and SSX3 is a trick game (and I think it has racing in it).

Perfect Stu

you know that SSX3's physics are much less realisitc, but you've obviously never played it because you don't know whether or not there's a racing mode?

EGM loved the n64 system. They loved the game in general.

this one they have very few good things to say about. about the only good thing is they say 'speed' its very fast.

Phisics they say SSX 3 kills it in.

But IMO, for snowboarders. this year goes SSX3...Amped 2..........1080

I have only played it at a friends house. I cant afford the game right now. We didnt play much. He showed me what appeared to be a lot of free roaming.

Hey, I HAVE to get 1080 to get the Zelda collectors disc. :D

no 4 player mode. but i'd give up 4 player mode in a heart beat for online mode.

Then again, i wouldnt go near a 4 player mode on a game like that with a 10foot pole. (unless it was on a BIG screen, HD TV)

Why the hell not? No different that going split screen with anything else.

PC fanboys don't use split screen, right Null? Online or nothing, that's what they always say :D. Just kidding. Snowboard games, or any game that isn't in first person, doesn't look right in 4 split screens. The detail and the clarity of the environment gets shot, or the frame rate gets low.

bingo.

while playing SSX3, you need to be able to see your surroundings with detail. every slope, jump, rail, etc. is hard to see in split screen. and the game moves really fast, too...so it makes it that much more difficult/awkward.

SSX3's single player is where its at.

different, yes and no.

one reason. console split screens have framerate and detail drops in split screen. Games like SSX, whiz by you so fast its pretty damn annoying with a split screen.

but yes. basically its onlin or nothing. I'll play a multiplayer that shares a screen, aka a fighter or a sports game. RARELY any that split it.

SSX 3 i play online. its about a million times better then playing with a split screen.

Correction stu. SSX online is where its at. ;) get a lot more of a challenge (depending on who you play) then you will in single player.

Is it just racing online or are there freestyle stuff too?

I'd get kind of tired racing with SSX 3 online. Free roam/freestyle competition is more fun for me.

Null, can you give me more info about the 1080 review of EGM? Cause I couldn't find and online review yet.

I'm sure I'm getting it, I just want to know what to expect.

4 player will be fun. :D AND I'll be able to play it online through the warp pipe project. :D Can't do that with SSX3 on GC...

Null

yes, bouncer, Online offers Ranked / unranked. Slopestyle, Race, Superpipe, Big air. All the events, and it keeps stats on you and all the events you do and your scores.

some of the things said in EGM.....

Irritating trick stystem recongnizes combos executed only after predetermined pauses...

i shattered records by 30 seconds and still couldnt progress to the next circuit. Silly me, thinking speed mattered. It seems i was supposed to collect concealed coins instead. Hows that for yellow snow? Admittedly, the straight forward slope riding is all right, but even so, Avalanche still can't compete with SSX 3

Even if you werent to compare this to the recently released snow materpiece SSX 3, Avalanche would still come up a little short.

In its defence, 1080 offers the trhilling sense of speed and danger that ssx 3 lacks.

you rarely get enough air to squeeze in big combos, so the whole tricks system feels subdued, almost an afterthought. For freeriders, not freestylers.
