Read the IGN review, they love it. http://cube.ign.com/articles/458/458726p1.html
It looks like the realistic Zelda game we never got!
The swordplay sound wunderbar and the graphics are great! :D
This is currently no. 1 on my have-to-buy-list. :camfu:

10.0 PresentationThis is the perfect realization of the franchise in 3D. Slick menus combined with crispy clean FMVs, in-game storytelling and lots of great, nostalgic extras for the ultimate Prince experience.

9.0 Graphics
Stunning. Gorgeous. Beautiful. Stretching architecture, unparalleled animation and ambient environments. Very rare framerate hitches and a sometimes cumbersome combat camera. Otherwise, a showpiece.

8.0 Sound
Atmospheric, fitting music, clear and thumping sound effects. Unfortunately compressed dialogue on GameCube. Runs in full surround.

9.0 Gameplay
Spectacularly intuitive, fun, challenging, and extremely satisfying. The only flaw -- if it can be called that -- is that combat is not quite as refined as the rest of the game.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
The game delivers a respectable sized single-player quest and when it's over, you can always toy around with the original POP, which is also included.

9.6 OVERALL:

BTW why does my explorer seize when I try to open Bobcats MK thread?? :(

You're right Angrist, this game rode my rim last night like there was no tomorrow. I'm a little sore but it was worth it. Thanks for the suggestion.

The gamecube version has slightly more polishied visuals and a more stable framerate...but apparently all 3 games still look very similar.

DsH: The GCN version has a bit better graphics and it has Prince of Persia (the original) as a bonus (not sure if you have to hook up your AGB).
The PS2 version has better sound, or so I've heard.

The XB version has even better graphics and Prince of Persia 2.

Too much games to buy! :(

I just bought it with my birthday money. I haven't played very far, only a little less than an hour into it, but its pretty good so far.

Anyone find it intersting that Ocarina of Time was a perfect incarnation of The Legend of Zelda series in 3D while The Sands of Time is the perfect incarnation of the Prince of Persia in 3D?

I noticed that when reading about the Dagger of Time in the instruction manual...

Anyway...

Canyarion is Angrist? I didn't know that. Or did you say Angrist because of the avatar?

Edit: Hmm, so he is Angrist. I remember reading his "After 300 posts the Dutch guy returns" post, but I can't believe I didn't realize it was Angrist.

Well, welcome back Angrist!

Good game, although quite short (for my liking that is, it's about 10 hours long). I recommend renting it, you could probably beat it.

Wow, POP is stunning. For the first half hour or so, I wasnt very impressed, the graphics looked kinda dull, colorless at first, and the controls seemed slightly akward at the very start. But after about an hour, my view totally changed. This game is stunning from a level design perspective, control perspective, and the graphics really grew on me. Amazing stuff here. The camera is basically perfect, the controls ARE perfect. Get this game. Any way you can.

I also got it for Christmas...Its a nearly perfect game...but Im not liking it as much as I thought I would. I dont know why...there is nothing wrong with it...its just it doesnt appeal to me the way other games of such a high calibur might.

One thing thats been aggravating me since I got it: What's the hell is the purpose of clicking the "L" button to slow down time??? All Ive ever gotten from it is trouble because I'm trying to rewind and accidently slow down time. I dont really see where my advantage is, because Im moving just as slow as the bad guys are.

But yeah, this is a great game, Im having a lot of fun with it...there's just something about it that doesnt make it stand out like it should. Ooh well. :-o

I rented it a few weeks ago. I played it for a few hours, then didn't touch it again...not because I didn't like it, but because I didn't have time to play it (along with Rebel strike which I wish I wouldve at least beat). But oh well, in 6 months they will both be $20-$30 anyways so by then I can just buy them both and play when I feel like it.

I just then beat POP a few minutes ago. All I can say is wow. That game really got awesome in the last half. I love it, one of my favorite games ever.

*spoiler*

The ending kicked butt! :D it was great. The perfect ending, in my opinion, and so unexpected. Its also a little sad, because that girl has no idea of all that she went through, or would have went through rather, with the Prince. But I loved the way he used the magical word her grandmother had told her as his name.

I was rather dissapointed that the Visier was so easily defeated, but the Special Features more than make up for any doubts and let downs I had. I loved the "making of the palace" feature. It was so perfectly planned out, the place is an artistic and architectural masterpiece. Everything about it is perfect and proportionate, and it flows smoothly from one part of the palace to the next, so you actually feel like your in the palace.

Im going to replay this thing again soon, and this time I wont miss the part where you earn POP 1.

Get both...but if you absolutley must pick one over the other, how could you possibly not pick Metroid Prime 2?

Its the sequal to the best game of they past 4 years, and its been getting rave reviews. That ones a no brainer.

I'd probably get MP2 over PoP2, but its hard for me to really say for sure since I've only played PoP2, and it kicks ass. But MP was awesome and I can only assume the sequel will be even better.

Yeah, I am DEFINATLY going to be getting both games, I was just wondering which one I should get for christmas and which one I should wait and buy at a later date. I did go ahead and tell my parents that I wanted Metroid Prime 2, however, considering how much I loved the first one. Not to mention this one has a new multiplayer mode...

It's going to be fantastic, but at the same time I can't wait for PoP2. I think the story sounds absolutely magnificent. The fact you are ALWAYS being chased by this fate creature out to make you repay your dept to death just gives me the chills thinking about it.

I just got this from Ubi Soft.

Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, today announced that Prince of Persia: Warrior WithinT has reached gold master status for the Sony PlayStationR2 and Microsoft XboxR. Fall's most highly-anticipated action-adventure game, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within stars a darker, edgier Prince on a journey to defy his own preordained death. The game delivers the innovative Free-Form Fighting System that allows players to create their own signature fighting style as the Prince, now a Master Warrior, has a great variety of advanced and lethal fighting techniques. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within also features a deep, mysterious storyline that leaves players guessing until the tremulous end, and deadly combat sequences so intense it will leave your heart pounding for more.

Available in stores December 2nd, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is rated "M" for Mature and will have a MSRP of $49.99.

There is oddly no mention of a GCN version...

Canyarion

But we all know the GCN version is coming. :D

DarkMaster

I got the Xbox version. And thats another thing that I forgot about, they didn't send any GCN versions for us to review. EB and Gamespot and all them still have it listed, and for the same release as the Xbox and PS2 versions, but this whole strange ordeal is confusing me.

Well, it seems the Penny-Arcade guys (who sang the praises of the first game) aren't too fond of the new one. I played the first one and loved it but from what I've seen of the sequal, they tried too hard to make it popular and ruined it in the process.

http://www.penny-arcade.com/news.php3?date=2004-12-03#2328

Sometimes, when you play it, you remember how good the first game was.

It's just sad to see a game that had so much potential ruined like this. My only hope is that since the series deals with time lines we haven't seen the end of the Prince from Sands of Time. I'm not finished with Warrior Within yet but I'm praying that as the story implies he'll die at the end.

GameMaster
12-03-2004, 03:42 PM
This is what happens when a person lets one success consume them. They can still save the Prince though. This sequel can be just written off as a dream or a Prince from another dimension in the third installment.

Jason1

Im still getting it for Christmas...I mean sure the reviews havent been quite as good as those for the first, but they've still been good...well into the 8.0's.

DarkMaster
12-03-2004, 09:09 PM
It's still a really good game, sure. Just with a lot of questionable directions taken. The dark theme is really, really over done, and the prince swearing is just laughable. The emphasis on combat is also kind of weird, I mean the first game was great because of the platforming/puzzle solving, not the combat. And while the combat is considerably better this time around, I'd still rather be doing more platforming.

Plus they took out bloom lighting, bah.
