Does anybody know of any good music downloading sites besides napster? I still have kazaa too, but I'm not sure if it's safe to download from there anymore since you have to pay for music now.
By the way, I don't mind the ones where you have to pay per download, but I'm just simply wondering if there are any sites from which you can download music for free and not have to worry about getting in trouble with the law.

winmx doesn't have the spyware of kazaa, but the selection leaves much to be desired

Kazaa Lite is the PC users best choice. All the selection that Kazaa has minus the spyware. And you're anonymous from evil things like the RIAA. ;)
If that fails I'd suggest buying from the Apple Music Store.

Just use Kazaa; Who cares.
Your odds of getting picked off are next to none. And besides that, they're concentrating on getting rid of the people sharing huge amounts of songs, so just don't leave like 500 mp3s in your "Shared" folder and you'll be fine. No one's going to go after you for downloading a few songs.

Well it's not just a few songs that I want to download. There's a lot I'd like to download. I don't plan on sharing though.

Depending on what you are looking for, you might be able to find it free and legal on mp3.com. Although they don't have a huge selection.

I use iTunes. it's a buck a sonmg, but it's good. they don't have everything, though, like TV themes. at least when I checked.
I stopped using Kazaa and all it's forms a few months ago. Now I use Soulseek (http://www.slsknet.org/) and find whatever I can off of MP3.com (http://www.mp3.com/). Soulseek is really good, you can't even compare it to Kazaa. It has a lot of "underground" and harder to find music while still having stockpiles of mainstream music. It also comes with chatrooms, which surprisingly, are very good. They have the odd moron come in now-and-then, but for the most part it's full of knowledgeable people.
Oh, in case you want to browse my files [when I'm online], my username is 'alexjs'.

If you don't want the spyware, just download either Ad-Aware or Spybot. And get Kazaa Lite, its so much greater then Kazaa.
And like PureEvil said, just don't keep tons of mp3's in your shared folder. I always move mine to a seperate folder in My Documents.

Incorrect, you're never anonymous, just hidden better. They can always find the IP addresses of users one way or another. If they search for a song, and start downloading from you, netstats will show the connection linked to your IP.
but as evil said, chances are VERY slim. Out of MILLIONS and millions of ppl, (Over 3mil on kazaa lite alone,) only 300 or so have been cought/sued.
so yea.
And for the legal way... I hear napster offers a montly payment. Depending on how many you get, that would be better.
I like itunes cuz i can preview stuff. (helps me find songs that i wanted the name of. :) ) And arent they $1 /song and 10 for the album? Cuz in most cases the 10 for the album is a better deal, unless itunes isnt the one that offers that price. *shrug*

Right, as long as we don't share several hundred (or like I was doing, thousand) copyrighted files, we aren't going to get pestered. Besides, the RIAA is giving out warnings to people now before they sue.
At any rate, if I'm looking for a particular song I use K++, but if I'm just d/l'ing albums I use bittorrent and www.suprnova.org (or the bittorrent search client: www.torrentsearch.us )
I forgot all about Bit Torrent.
You can get pretty much anything off of Bit Torrent, with the right mirror anyway. Supernova is a great mirror page, they add upwards of 5-10 albums per day and they already have nearly 500 (an estimate) on the site. Bit Torrent couldn't be easier to use, once downloaded just go to the mirror site and download what you want, there is no GUI.
