As a huge fan of 1080 for the 64, im really looking foward to this game, and was very happy when everyone was saying how much it improved awhile back from earlier builds. A recent press confrence interview has been posted with NST, here's the link. http://cube.ign.com/articles/458/458295p1.html

They mention a lot of good points, like how it differs from SSX, and they sorta say without saying that Avalance will be much more realistic than SSX, and that's very apparent to me from looking at some of the screens. I think thats the main reason I always liked 1080 so much. Ive been Downhill skiing since I was 3, I know what its all about and feels like, and 1080 felt much more realistic than any of the SSX's. Everything from the way the courses looked, to the way powder and patches of ice reacted on your controls and board...it all felt right. Id like to show a screen from Avalanche and point out a few things.

Okay this image has realistic written all over it. I notice the slope of the mountain...contrary to popular belief, there just arent vertical drop off's at your average ski resort. The way the Ski lift poles get right in your way in the middle of the course...you see that kind of thing all the time a ski area's. It just looks so much more like your actually skiing down a real run at a real mountain than SSX, and im sure that will be very apparent for me when I play it. There is a place for SSX, but it was always way too over the top for me...characters seemed to rocket off ramps and defy gravity, and it dosent take 20 minutes to get down even the longest of runs at the largest of ski areas....

Might pick it up. All depends on the reviews it gets.

I'm interested in the LAN mode.. and I liked Wave Race: Blue Storm a lot. I can't wait to see how it turns out, either.

I liked the N64 version but darn that damn 1080 was impossible to pull off. I spent one whole day trying and couldn't get it done. Then I tried the others day but I had to return the game and couldn't pull it off. I hope it isn't as impossible to do in this one. Also, I almost always landed wrong and fell, I hope they don't make it so hard now.

I, for one, loved the trick system on 1080. While yes, the 1080 was insanely difficult to pull off, I did manage it a couple of times, and wow it felt good. You'll be happy to learn that they have drastically changed the landing and trick system, so we will see how it turns out.

Fixed it! That normally happens when I post this late in the night. And that's good to know, Jason. I hope that now I can finally concentrate on the tricks and not on the landing.

I like the trick system a lot in 1080... i did the halfpipe so much... me and my friend competed for top scores in it and i remember in one turn i managed 3 1080's coboed with a grab trick at the beggining and end maybe... :) feels so good to land em :)
