If you were to hook up 2 GameCubes, the mandatory hardware is: 2 GC's, 2 BBA's, a crossover cable, and a game that supports system link/LAN. That's it. Getting to play over LAN should be very easy...I'm guessing that all you have to do is have both at the LAN select screen, then wait as the 'Cubes communicate. Probably the same way 2 or more XBox's work....

The release date is considered a North American release, so Canadians should get the game the same time as Americans (ship date was November 11, yesterday, should be in most stores today). This of course depends also on where you buy it from. EB, for example, has a Canadian warehouse, so the stores in Canada don't need to wait for a shipement from an American warehouse. Also, since Nintendo of Canada will be distributing it here, that makes it all the better.

They are entitled to their opinion, but their review system is ****. There's a lot of titles that don't deserve to be on the top, and a lot that should.
I haven't played it, but EGM has, and most of Europe has.. Gamerankings has it's overall percent sitting at 94%, before this IGN catastrophe. Either Fran is pissed, or it wasn't a good game. And I don't believe IGN as a credible source.. their chance to enjoy games has been long since worn out.

I guess IGN was expecting something different than what they got, where as everyone else got exactly what they wanted. Needless to say, I think people are acting a little to crazy. Every forum I visited yesterday had a thread about this and about 20 people writing 3 page long posts about why IGN is gay. I mean, if they don't like the game, they don't like the game, they aren't going to lie and pretend that they like it when they really don't. People are acting like IGN is wrong and gave it a low score on purpose. What the hell is that? Why would they do that? The fact of the matter is, I just don't like it when people degrade a publication for giving a low score to their much anticipated game.
fingersman
11-13-2003, 07:49 PM
I never understood this, when ign reviews a game and they give a low score based on factors they consider important everyone jumps on them, like IGN SUCKS but if they review a game and give it good review like everyone wants, everyones yeah IGN GAVE THAT GAME A GOOD SCORE, i'm picking it up tomorrow. What's up with that.
Neways although I haven't played the game I do see where they are coming from. From what IGN stated I do believe nintendo could have done a bit better, I especially agree with the cart skins, more tracks and they can actually have the characters play a role in how the cart drives instead of just the cart being the main thing that influences.
Another thing that I'm sorry they didn't implement was a two player team mode ( and no I don't mean co-op mode) that would have been fun.
I know I haven't played it yet, but I just know I'll miss the hopping , I dunno it just seemed natural.
I guess your dissapointed in the game depends strictly on how much you where expecting from it.
So I just hope I don't get dissapointed and have lots of fun with the game.

Why do people have to flip out about reviews? It's even worse when (as fingersman pointed out) people praise a site when they give a game a good score, but condemn it when they score a game they're looking forward to low... Why do you really care?
Castlevania for example... First review I saw gave it a 9 out of 10...IGN an 8 something I think... But videogames.com gave it a 7 something... Oh no, it's the end of the world :rolleyes:

I see it like this...
Gamespot's reviews are consistantly lower than that of IGN. So, given that GS gave MKDD a 7.9, that really means that IGN's score is 8.1
Fran probably just couldn't get his tampon out that day or something.
But hey, both are allowed their opinion of a game, and I don't really care what they gave it. I'd have bought it and had just as much fun with the old style MK gameplay if IGN gave it a 5.

More spoiers:-
Gamemaster---> Bowsers special rules. Massive spiked shell. I never like the fast accelerating chars. THey are for the newbs. The real experts use the heavy chars for best speed overall and slow acceleration. And I've always used Bowser/DK.
Nemesis----> haven't used Yoshi yet. I'll let you know as I play more.
Dark Samuri-----> He was prolly the most popular char in N64 and SNES version (Toad) but so far no Toad :(
The best thing about this game is that you can mix and match. In the instruction booklet it explains how you can do this. For example you can have Bowser, and Yoshi in the DK kart. I don't know if this means you get different specials or not.
And finally for everyone just because other ppl review this game low, doesn't make them wrong. It's their opinion and if that's what they think , then that's what they think. I don't agree with the 7.9 review, but you have to understand that different people like different things, and they must have thought this game was above average, so just accept that.
I'm just puzzled as to why it was changed from a 9.5 to 7.9 by IGN?? I remember seeing 9.5 I'm sure. Did anyone else see this???

I got this game today.PRetty cool
Haven't got to play it much due to the fact that I had class right after, then went to dinner.
Went throuigh the first three cups in 50cc.
Gonna move up to 100cc next, and then the world.
Co-op is cool. But a lot of communication needed.
Dylflon
11-19-2003, 12:56 AM
Got it today.
Single player is not nearly as fun as the co-op grand prix. That's so much fun. And it's easier. So it's nice to have someone to play it with. I play it with my little brother, We are a super team.
Here's the stuff you can get
~~Spoilzorz~~~
It's mostly just extra Karts but you can get two extra battle levels. Luigi's Mansion and this crazy tilting one.
The secret characters are Toad, Toadette, Boo and Petey Pirhanna.
~~~~~~~~~~~
I will go and get the game tomorrow. I couldn't get it today because when I arrived at the store they hadn't opened the box and wouldn't be able to sell the game till 3:00pm. Well, I couldn't stay there for two hours 9my granfather was waiting for me) and there was no way they (my parents) would get me there again. I couldn't do anything but to leave it for tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll ahve much work to do and will only be able to play for a short period of time. Not only did they get it one day late but I have to wait another day. I really hate these last days of class, all the teachers give the most homeworks and stuff now. I'll check it out tomorrow and see which review was the one that the game fairly deserved.
I got the game yesterday (Tues). I got really friggin lucky that the EB had a few extra copies of the ones with the demo discs because I forgot to pre-order the game:p He called 2 people to make sure he could give me a copy with the demo disc since there was a couple extra's left.
So when I got it home, played the demo disc for about 15 minutes, then played MK for about a half hour, then had to go to bed since I work at 9:30pm so I have to be up at 7:30 to catch the damned bus. So from about 1pm-1:45pm or so I played it, then went to bed. 5 hours of sleep feels great
But MK is pretty fun so far. Can't wait to play it more:D (Along with Mario&Luigi Superstar Saga which is gonna kick ass since I liked Paper Mario and Mario RPG)
I'd also like to make a correction to Dlyflon's post regarding secret characters. Dylflon stated one of the secret characters is Boo when it is actually King Boo.
Both King Boo's and Petey Piranha's special items are random, it could be any of the special items.
More to come soon.
It really shines in co-op. And it's awesome that when you go head to head (two teams with two players) if one team comes in first you can still unlock items.
So far I've beaten all the 50cc, all the 100cc and the first two 150cc.
150cc is crazy hard. Good thing my brothers is good at throwing stuff.
CrOnO_LiNk
11-20-2003, 01:24 AM
Got the game yesterday, and for those who want more info on it here's what I have to say...
Single player still has the same 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. There are 3 original cups with 4 levels each. There is also a secret cup that I have not unlocked yet. You can unlock that if you beat Star Cup on 100 cc. 1 player in my opinion isn't that great, but still alright...
Multiplayer is where this game gets fun. Battling and racing is awesome. Playing 2-4 players (especially 3 or 4 players) is very fun. You'll see you and your friends screaming over a race or a battle. It's fun. There are 3 battle modes. One is the oldschool baloon battle, there is a Shine Stealer battle where you have to get the star and run (it's basically like a game of tag), and lastly there is a bomb battle. The bomb battle is a match where you can only use bombs and attack eachother. You'll see it when you play it.
You can either play multiplayer races together or against eachother. When you play together, one person gets on the back seat and attacks people with his punches and items the driver gets while driving. While driving together, you can switch who drives and who atatcks by pressing Z. (for 2 players, both players have to press Z to switch).
The other multiplayer race is just like the other Mario kart games. You race against everyone in Grand Prix.
Now for the items... Items are really cool. Each character has their own special. For example, Bowser has a big Koopa shell he throws and attacks a whole area. Mario has red fire balls, DK has extra bannana power, and etc... Most of the items are the same, but there are a few different.
So that's about it.
And in my opinion, the bonus disk isn't really that good, but I have yet to try out Sonic Heroes.
Jonbo298
11-20-2003, 01:51 AM
The first level on the Sonic Heroes demo is damn fun. Almost the whole time its fast paced which is what a Sonic game is supposed to be. But the second level on the demo is kind of meh.
But yeah, I agree that the demo disk isn't as great as it was hyped to be (ie: Pre-Order MK and get this great demo disk!). *gasp* Jon has said something bad about Nintendo/Nintendo game:wtf: But I played the all the demo's and most are good.
But MK: DD is pretty good. I haven't had the chance to play Multi yet since I don't have enough friends over yet who can play the game with me.
Blackmane
11-20-2003, 02:24 AM
MK: DD is a great game. I have gotten to play it with some buddies of mine at school. Playing wht four different carts is great, but playing 2 on 2 is better. It gets you so pumped up.
The absolute best thing, however, was having the game on a LAN with 2 other machines. We played a full Grand Prix with 12 people, 2 on each cart, for a total of 6 carts. It was so much fun and completely insane. Let me just say that if you haven't played a LAN game, you are missing out on TONS of fun. Hundred times better than normal multiplayer. The fights for 1st place were so intense, my blood was boiling. My partner was really good, so we did really well.
BTW, Rainbow Road is a lot better in this one than in the 64 version. It's much more difficult.
I've beaten most of the game.
I beat Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup, Special Cup and All Cup Tour on 50cc, 100cc and 150cc.
I have also beaten Mushroom Cup on Mirror.
I have only 4 more cups...but they're all mirror. If you guys think 150cc is hard you'll discover a whole new world of pain in mirror mode.
but entertaining nonetheless
What's mirror mode?
I've beaten all the cups on 50, 100, and 150 and now I finished the all cup thing last night on 50cc and 100cc. Is mirror mode after that?
GameMaster
Mirror mode is when the course is reversed horizontally. I think you also drive in the opposite direction but I'm not sure on that one?
Everything in the code is flipped. Even Lakitu's sign is flipped. :P I don't think you'd drive backwards through the code though. That would be a double mirror.
Holy moly, great game. I was at my friend's birthday party last night, and we must have played this game for about 8 straight hours (and drank several packs of beer while doing so). Multiplayer in this game rocks, except I was getting a bit bored of it at the end (but only because I played so much in one sitting, lol).
Good job, Nintendo.
I managed to get enough money together to purchase this game, and I am very satisfied. Very fun. I have beaten all the cups on every "cc", except for the star cup on 150cc.
I earned the "Cup Tour", and beat it on 50 cc (I DIDNT WIN ANYTHING! Whats the point of the cup tours?)
Anyway, my fave character pair is Wario and Donkey Kong, driving the Bowser mobile.
You still have to do Mirror Mode I reckon, and then, and only then, will you be considered an Elite Double Dasher.
I'm still using default teams. So far I always use Yoshi and Birdo or the babies. I like the fact that you almost always get specials with Yoshi. :D Anyways, my double dashing is on hold at the moment because I have to finish my classes. Stupid classes! :mad2:
I want to have a Mario Kart marathon with friends.
Did that on saterday night / sunday morning... in 2 sittings... we did.. mushroom, flower, star and special on 50 100 and 150 cc and we did the all cup tour on 50 and 100... and did versus and battle mode up to 20 wins. These are the kinds of situations i think this game and some other games are just great for.
It was pretty fun and there was a lot of REALLY REALLY close races. the closest one was.... we won by .002
Im not using Wario and DK anymore...I started using Toad and ParaKoopa driving the Toad Mobile, and now I cant stop. I am so much better with them than I was driving that big hung of metal Bowser Mobile.
I finally earned Mirror Mode, and Ive won a Gold Trophie in each cup on it except for Cup Tour and Star Cup.
Is there any more challenges after I get gold trophies in each cup on mirror mode? I hope so...I dont want it to end yet...
Yes, the bullet is mighty good. Fastest of the light karts. I still prefer Toad's and Koopa's kart which are basically the same thing minus the looks. My characters are always Koopa and Diddy Kong. Used to use Paratroopa but his juggling of the shells was distracting. A horde of red shells for when you fall behind, and banana peels for when you gain the lead.
The koopas are the most irritating to play against because they always seem to get the special items more than other people. I hate getting bombarded by shells.
However, it goes the other way, because I love to play as Koopas.
I've loved Koopa since the SNES version. :D Best character ever. I wish Wario hadn't stolen his kart in the N64 version, otherwise I would've liked it.
I usually use Koopa Troopa Driving (coz he was always the best back in the S.N.E.S days and you know it) Yoshi on weapons (Those eggs are useful man) and drive in Waluigi's Kart, the purple one, cant remember what it's called.
If I am being honest I havent actually played the game in ages, never completed it on 150cc and I haven't unlocked the boo's as characters or the old fart toad's gold car. Never mind, I will go back to it and own it one day soon.
If I'm not mistaken, that's from the Arcade version of Mario Kart that is yet to be released....
yes its the japense arcade version. i think its been released. unless you mean for north amercia. which i dunno if it will be.
I've owned DD since the beginning but last night was the first time I ever really played it. Very smooth controls.
oh yea. it plays and controls wonderfully. which is why its such a shame they screwed up so much with the content of the game.
Are you referring to the passenger system?
passenger system perhaps. i coulda lived with that tho.
im more refering to the lack of original courses that stood out. i've beat every level on both mk64 and DD, and 64's stand out a lot more in my memory.
Many of the tracks were too short, and lacked a real sense of design and short cuts.
Then they totally destroyed battle mode. maps are so small you can barly move around in em, then they give you weapons that litteratly take up the ENTIRE screen in size. mk64 had huge battle maps in comparison.
weapons dissapointed me also. and the look of the go karts, i prefer go karts, like that pic above for the japense arcade game rather then Mario Soap box Durby cars in DD.
I have one problem with MK: DD, and it's something that I both love and hate: the handicapping. When I'm playing videogames with friends, often times they aren't as good as me because I own the games, and so they lose at the game and don't like it (see: Super Smash Bros: Melee), regardless of how good it is. With MK: DD, the exact opposite happens. I still can win most races, but the handicapping gets really frustrating because any time you are in first you are hit with countless amounts of weapons. I thought they overdid it with this game, and that MK64 had a much better balance of skill vs handicap.
I like the two driver system, and the karts, and the weapons, and the courses, and the control.
