View Full Version : Kill Bill: Volume 1

Wow.
I just got home from the movie theatres, and all I can say is, "wow."
Wow.
Kill Bill: Volume 1 is the best movie that I have seen all year. It was a bit slow in some parts, but that is just classic QT's way of story telling and advancing the plot. The theme was great, and it has such a feel of old kung fu movies.
Wow.
Solid acting and fighting throughout the whole movie, and with an end fight that is even better than the final big battle in Scarface, you can't go wrong. We are talking a good 13 minutes of hardcore, good ol' fashioned sword action. Blood, guts and limbs are everywhere.
Wow.
And I had a smile on my face for the whole time.
:D

I saw it tonight too... it ruled... So much over the top violence fun... I wanna see Kill Bill volume 2 NOW!
ICHI THE KILLER!!!! (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000CABGW/qid=1065851646/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/002-9314247-7783200?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846)
Everyone should see Ichi the Killer when it comes out on DVD November 28th... It's a Japanese movie... Very graphic, gruesome stuff... Not just a bunch of fast action blood splurting everywhere, I'm talking graphic painful slow things like crazy torture scenes and stuff...
Ummmm... But that of course is not the only reason to see the movie, afterall, I watch the movie for the articles... err, I mean the storyline...

Ichi the Killer is certainly not for the squeamish. I'm not entirely convinced of its value as an art form (yes, some people claim it's art). As a piece of entertainment...well, if watching a guy slowly cut off his own tongue is your thing, then go for it. But I'm warning you: the tongue is the least of it.
Also, the plot of that movie just flat out sucks. I have no idea what was going on in the last half hour or so of the movie.
Just got back from seeing it. Flat out best movie of the year, hands down.
with a cliff hanger at the end that Matrix 2 WISHES it had.
i'll prolly see it again tomorrow night. the lady wants to see it. hehehe

I didn't see the whole thing, but I found it fun to watch...
And I'm not a critic with a stick up his ass who criticizes plots... I can normally enjoy anything... If it's a good plot, then it's good because it's good, if it's bad, it's good because it's bad and therefore it is laughable, and laughing is good...
I can enjoy pretty much any movie... wether it's for crazy graphic violence or goofy over the topness or badness (bad horror films, for example)... and I can't stand it when someone watches a movie and picks apart every little problem with the movie... I wanna bash their brains in with a hammer...
Oh and by the way, where did you see Ichi the Killer? Just curious...

Yeah, I am seeing it later on today too! And I'll probably see it on Monday as well.. lol... Such a good movie.
And Bobcat, the film is about The Bride (Uma Thurman) being attacked at her wedding. All of the people are killed, except for her, she just falls into a coma. 4 years later she wakes up with one thing on her mind: revenge. She has 5 people to kill, but there are two parts to the movie so you do not see all the bosses.
Cast:
UMA THURMAN - "The Bride"
LUCY LIU - O-Ren Ishii
DARYL HANNAH - Elle Driver
VIVICA A. FOX - Vernita Green
MICHAEL PARKS - Sheriff
SONNY CHIBA - Hattori Hanzo
CHIAKI KURIYAMI - Go Go Yubari
JULIE DREYFUS - Sofi Fatale
GORDON LIU - Johnny Mo
JUN KUNIMURA - Boss Tanaka
KAZUKU KITAMURA - Boss Koji
AKAJI MARO - Boss Ozawa
Holy shyte this was such a good movie. I can't wait until February to see Part 2... And the ending! Oh my... I love how they just ended it like that... phenominal.

I don't usually go for movies that are made just so that the producers can film a bunch of gruesome violnce scenes. It seems to me that if I am going to enjoy a movie, see it voluntarily, then I would prefer to have a reason for watching it. For example, the Jap movie DH posted would not be one. However, gruesome things do not bother me. I just would rather have a specific reason for watching it. Both movies do sound interesting but I don't know that I would want to pay the money for it.

Id have to say I agree. This looks like your classic case of people going crazy over a movie just because it's so gory.........buuuuuutttt...the reviews have been pretty good so maybe it's worth checking out. I saw School of Rock last weekend, very good movie.

I think I'm going to see it tonight. I'm pretty excited, Quentin Tarantino hasn't let me down yet, so I don't see it happening with this one either. I wish it was still just one movie though, breaking it up into two different segments is sorta crappy, breaks up the whole experience.

The movie has a great story and an amazing cliff hangar at the end... This movie is not great just because of the violence, people.

I like my movies to actually have a point. Ichi the Killer is pointless. A lot of high-minded people (what you might call critics with sticks up their asses) have tried to justify this movie by saying that the movie's pointlessness is the point. I think some people just try too hard to make everything into art.
I'm also capable of laughing at a plot that's so bad that it's good. The problem isn't that Ichi the Killer's plot is bad. The problem is that it doesn't exist.
I saw Ichi the Killer because my local Asian Movie Club was showing it.

As Joeiss said, wow! Just got back from the movie, I thought it was fantastic. As I expected, pretty cheesy dialogue and such, but amazing action throughout. Music was just as important, my respect for RZA is off the charts, excellent soundtrack...It's also great that no special effects were added in afterwards, everything was done on camera. I'm still pissed that I have to wait for Vol. 2, but I suppose I can't blame Miramax (i think) for wanting some extra bills. Well done Mr. Tarantino.
Edit: Just another funny moment, my 22 year old friend got carded at the door, while my 18 year old self didn't. It was pretty great...

I didn't want to know what it was about before I saw it. I loved all of Quentin's films so I figured I'd take a leap of faith. I was not disappointed. I loved it so much. I didn't know how gory it would be. I didn't mind of course but wow. Goriest movie I have ever seen.

I just saw it and loved it! Especially the anime part.
In my opinion, some of the dialogue was meant to be cheesy i.e. "This sword is so good that if you meet god on your journey, he will be cut." It just adds to the whole parody of Kung Fu movies.
Joeiss
10-13-2003, 09:20 PM
That wasn't cheesy, it showed how good the sword was.

Well, let's put it this way, the dialogue wasn't as well thought out or great(maybe it wasn't intended to) as the action sequences. Not that it matters, amazing action doesn't need great dialogue. I thought parts were cheesy, but maybe it's just me.

I just got back from seeing it with my dad. I'm so glad my mom wasn't interested in seeing it...she would have been sick :p
GREAT movie...best since LOTR: Two Towers, Gangs of New York and Minority Report IMO.
The lines were not cheesy...they were appropriate. The acting wasn't the focus of the movie, either...it was all about direction, storytelling, music and of course action. Uma Thurman is AWESOME. Loved the ending...opens up a lot of doors that must be closed during Volume 2.
I thought the chapter with the Japenese Man was really boring...but other than that, it was fantastic. The scene with Lucy Liu and the gang meeting/celebration was great...reminded me so much of Robert Denero's baseball bat scene in the Untouchables.
9/10

I think he meant Kill Bill Vol. 1 and Kill Bill Vol. 2... Not the multiple chapters (I think there were 5) in Vol. 1...
Unless that's what you meant... But there are only 2 movies... Because it was gonna be one but it was too long and they wanted more money :sneaky:

But... they havn't said anything about another Kill Bill movie... the only other Kill Bill movie they've talked about is Vol. 2, which is the other half of Vol. 1... The rest would just be speculation that there will be a 'second' movie that would also be cut in half... :hmm:

Yeah...wait a minute, I'm pretty sure there is just Kill Bill Volume 1 and Kill Bill Volume 2, because Kill Bill at it's first stage was just one nearly 4 hour movie, so they cut it into 2 parts...Not 4 from what I hear.

Hey, im with you man. Kill bill was supposed to be one movie. they cut it in 2 to shorten it, and bank on ppl wanting to see second half, which was a good move because it said over 90% want to see the next one.
I've only heard of that one movie, cut into vol 1 and 2. I was just saying if there was supposed to be another. that might be where the 4 comes from. thats IF.

QT wrote Kill Bill based off of a novel 'the Bride' or something...and I think the entire story consists of about 4 volumes right now. Vol.1 is the version released...Vol.2 is the one coming out next year. The other volume(s) could be about the DVAS when Black Mamba was in it...who knows?

So I watched the movie and liked it (though probably not for the same reasons as everyone else).
The only problem with my viewing experience was that there was a guy who fell asleep in the audience. Now, I find it mighty impressive that somebody managed to fall asleep through Kill Bill. But that's not the problem. The problem was that he snored. And the louder the movie got, the louder he snored. So all the dramatic silences in the movie got ruined because while Uma Thurman was staring coldly at her target or something, we'd be getting this rumble from over on my right.
It made me want to take out my knife and throw it at him. The aim would have been kind of tricky in the dark, though. But seriously, why would you go to a movie just to sleep through it? It was just a good thing the theater was relatively empty (since it was Wednesday night). Otherwise, that guy would have gotten in big trouble.

I enjoyed all the little touches like the way the swordmaker wrote the word "Bill" or the fact that Uma Thurman is wearing a suit like Bruce Lee wore in his last movie or the way Tarantino adds all these lines that are spoken in other kung fu movies all the time ("If in your quest you should meet God, God will be cut").
The movie is an homage to kung fu movies rather than a kung fu movie itself. That's the level I enjoyed it on.

I didn't like KillBill, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either. I'm a fan of old kung fu flicks and anime and for some reason the movie just didn't pull my strings. The fight scenes where nicely done other than that I thought the movie wasn't good. Some of my friends shared similar opinions.
So I guess I can get put in the corner with bigboss and happydude.
