9.0 Presentation
Cut-scenes tell a slightly muddy yet still entertaining tale of Joe's struggle to rescue Silvia. Standard Capcom polish and excellence all around.
9.0 Graphics
Crisp, colorful, and gorgeous. Great art mixes with solid technology for one of the most stylized beat-'em-ups ever seen.
9.0 Sound
Clean stereo effects ring as Joe shatters his foes with power-packed blows. Electronic trance tunes are good, and Joe's voice-acting fits perfectly.
10.0 Gameplay
The best action title on the GameCube -- Viewtiful Joe rules all. Irresistible and highly addictive action combat packed with fantastic flair.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
VJ is crazy tough, and we love it! Worthy unlockables, but you'll want to keep replaying forever based on the awesome gameplay mechanics alone.
One of the greatest games I've played in years -- do yourself a favor, and read the full review over at IGN (all 4 pages, you won't regret it).
My only advice: GET OFF YOUR ASS, AND BUY THIS GAME!
If I had money, I'd buy it. For now, I'm going to have to suffice with a rental.
"It's just a little rental-y! It's still good! It's still good!"

About time Capcom did something right.
I've read the review and I definitely will buy this game. I've always said it looked good, but afta PN03 I wasn't sure if it'd be "that" good. This review has basically answered that for me :D
I wonder exactly how "hard" the game really is...

Probably F-Zero GX hard?
I might buy the game, it looks great, but the only thing that's making me not want to get it is the fact that it's short... But damn, Replay Value 9!?

Hmmm....a good game made by Capcom.
I know I'm looking forward to Viewtiful Joe 17.

But damn, Replay Value 9!?My first time through the game was about 10 hours I'd say, an amazing experience for sure, but the game is so much damn fun that I actually want to play through again -- seriously, Viewtiful Joe has the most amazing, fluid, stylish gameplay.

What kind of crazy person already has played and beat the game when it's not even being released in most retailers until Tuesday October 7?! :wtf:

Hmmm, I guess I'd have to see the game in motion, because those screen shots look pretty bad O_o. But, I dunno... I trust Capcom in the 2D department (even if the only 2D-ness of the game is due to Cell Shading). But, if the game's anywhere near as fluid as Marvel vs. Capcom 2, then it ought to be great.

if the game's anywhere near as fluid as Marvel vs. Capcom 2, then it ought to be great.I'm having a hard time remembering playing a video game that is as fluid as Viewtiful Joe is, and that is not an understatement, but don't take my word for it.
Here's what IGN had to say concerning how fluid Viewtiful Joe is...
"Not for a second does the game stutter or slow down. It runs at a rock-solid framerate that shows off every brilliant frame of Joe flipping, twisting, soaring, posing, punching, and kicking with much style and convincing fluidity."
And trust me, no screenshot will ever do this game any justice -- YOU HAVE to see the game in-motion, and furthurmore, you actually have to have the controller in your hands (IGN also states this in their review).
Another IGN take on another great aspect of Viewtiful Joe...
"You can trust that Capcom isn't going to slap the name "viewtiful" on a box unless it's sporting impressive visuals to back it. In the case of Viewtiful Joe, we're treated to a gorgeously rendered cel-shaded package that borders closer to the true definition of artwork than nearly any other game on the system. Everything from the diverse and richly detailed backgrounds to the wildly unique character designs, the truly beautiful graphical effects, and the unbelievable character animations are all masterfully crafted, making Viewtiful Joe a showpiece title for Nintendo's console."
I could on and on about how great Viewtiful Joe is, but in the end, it doesn't really matter -- just find a way to play the game for yourself!

You have to play the game to understand it at all. Before I played it, I couldn't have cared less about it. But it's a very fun game.

Anyways, even the notorious GameSpot gave Viewtiful Joe a whopping 9.2; so obviously this game is the real deal.
No "kiddy" or "purse" jokes can keep true gamers from saying this is one of the best 2D games ever, PERIOD- on ANY console.
I indeed concur.

WAZOO!
and this game is 10 bucks cheaper than most other GC games.
I just might by this. I got a $20 dollar rebate for my NHL game.

Notorious for giving good scores to gamecube games that deserve good scores...
Seriously I havn't heard anybody complain about gamespot's scores lately... They've always seemed pretty fair to me... But now people use their 'hatred for Nintendo' as a way to make a game sound even better :sneaky:
Anyways, I hadn't really been paying attention to Viewtiful Joe... but maybe I'll buy it... There are many more games I want more though... And I won't need a new game for awhile thanks to Suikoden III...

It would appear they are a bit more strict overall on all platforms (except PC).;)

-Official Ninja and writer of [coming soon]...The legendary, Shadow Fox- how the hell ya been ol' friend?
You may just know me from the XboxAddict Asylum; use to spend 95% of the time posting in the Xbox vs. GameCube debate section, but haven't visited for quite some time (not enough "frequent" posters to keep my interest anymore, and no good topics).
Of course, I go by a different name over there...
Anyway, I made this thread because I love Viewtiful Joe- one of the best titles available for GameCube, and I’m glad to see that you "concur" with me.
BTW, you seem to be the "Official Ninja" of something or other at a handful of gaming forums, and you even have the same signature here!

As of now, yes I float around pretty much everywhere (gaming, Maya 3.5, music, and other boards) so I keep everything the same for the most part, particularly my old sig from old Nintendose history.
And yes, I agree with you. I've only played the demo version, but VJ so far is the truth- no doubt about it.

I might as well just come out and say it- You know me as X-Factor over at XBA, or at least you should remember me, and I am actually trying to get Neo to change my user name to X-Factor.
Nice to have you 'round here- gaming forums need more people like you!

I'm just curious as to why you didn't use your first name here. What was it Biohazard or something of the sorts?

I picked it up today for 39.99, and I had a 10% discount. So the total plus tax came to like 37. What an Amazing game. It reminds me of way back when, when games were just plain fun. They didnt have to have a plot, amazing graphics or sound, but they were hella fun. And Viewtiful Joe is. If you've ever liked an Old-school 2D side scroller/Fighter/Platform...you'll love it.
Whew! Well, I picked it up, and I must say, I'm thoroughly amazed. I got a free collector's watch with it and it came to $50 Canadian. Very good, considering some places had $55 and $60. I heard EB had $45, but they sold through.
Overall, just an amazing game. The graphics are SUPERB, the voice acting is SUPERB, the sound is SUPERB, and the Gameplay is Awesome!
Just.. Viewtiful!
P.S. I love all the Nintendo and Capcom references. I won't ruin them though for anyone who hasn't played it yet. =D Go, find some way to play this game, and buy it. It's cheap, you get something free, and you get an awesome game. It's amazing. @_@

I got the game. It's awesome, love the VFX powers.
The only problem is that I don't want to play the game so much because I know I'll beat it. The game is short, I know, so I'll have to try and not play so much regardless of how fun it is...
