IGN has posted that Xbox and PS2 will be bundling GTA 3 and VC in november. I had heard that both games will be making thier way to Xbox and Gamecube, is this still so? and if so whats the releas date???
Rockstar has so far made no statement regarding the release of the GTA 3 series on the cube. The console packages will be for xbox and ps2 only at this time.
The same question was asked in the ign's latest cube mailbag. :bendover:

Hm perhaps both games don't fit on 1 GC disc. I mean, I'm SURE they don't with all the voices and music files... But that could be a reason they don't port it.

and the fact that it's button layout on the Cube would be akward.. but no need to argue about it again... it may happen. ;)

Maybe they just don't think anyone will buy it.

Yeah, probably the real reason. Most companies don't take a chance. Hell, Rockstar can't lose much if any money by just straight porting it. They've made more then enough money off of GTA3/VC on PS2.

No kidding, but i mean, i think there are lots of people who own a cube and would buy it. The controller would work just fine *looks at the game and spits*

I'm sure it would

No, space wouldn't allow it. They have next to nothing in production costs, and the had all the money from PS2 sales already... fanbase has nothing to do with it.
I'm sure both GTA3 and VC would be too big for one 1.5g GCN disc too.. probably three, even.

Of course they're not going to lose money off of their total net profits for the game, that's impossible, but it still costs a lot of money to print up instructions, stamp the discs, assemble the cases, ship the game to retailers, etc. I'm sure if there were any chance of the game making a profit they'd do it.
Good game or not most cube exclusive owners took a "this game sucks because it's not on the gamecube" attitude toward GTA after 3 didn't come to the cube back in 01. NO ONE who owns both an xbox or ps2 and a gamecube would buy this for the cube and if you believe that they would then you're lying to yourself.
As for the game working well with the cube controler.
Does the game require frequent use of either the right stick or the D-pad?
If it does, then it's a crappy game for the controler.

It's probably possible to put them both on 2 discs, as long as Rockstar took advantage of some compression things the GC has. I doubt the graphics would take up much space on a disc. And since its just 1 big area (broken up into sections), its possible. But then again, that all costs money and time, which companies usually don't want to have happen.

No... the stick will be just fine, it's just the fact that it uses every damn Ps2 button... L1, L2, L3, R1, R2, R3, Triangle, Square, Circle, X, Start Select, and the sticks/D-Pad. It's not impossible, but it's hard to imagine making it work without serious tweaking.

Ya, the game uses all the buttons... It would be cool to see how they would switch up the controls to the GCN though.

You press down the analog sticks... on Ps2 it's L3 and R3... on Xbox it's L2 and R2

You would have to be just plain stupid to think they couldnt get it to work with the Cube controller. Sure, it might take a little extra effort to make it work, but I know it can be done, if everything is utilized like the Digital clicks, D-pad, ect. Or they could just have something like when you hold down both R buttons at the same time, some of the button functions change. I thought that one up in 2 seconds in my head. With a little thinking, it could easily be mapped to work well on the Cube controller. And if it's space issue, they could just use multiple discs as other Cube games have. Its prolbably more an issue of userbase than anything...they dont think it will sell enough to be worth their effort to port it.

I don't see why they'd bother making a cube port/version. I guaruntee you it would sell better on the XBox and PS2 anyway...instead, I'm glad they're focusing their attention on current projects like Manhunt, GTA4, etc.
And honestly...most cube owners can get access to GTA3 or Vice City, via a PS2-owning friend. Right?

of course you could...I simply stated PS2 in particular because of all the units sold on that platform...there's a better chance they'll know someone with the PS2 version.
but whatever

For all those complaining about fitting the game on a GOD:
Splinter Cell was a HUGE game on Xbox, and was remade and also a HUGE game on PS2 as far as raw sound, and live orchestral scores/FMV's are concerned, yet there are more FMV's on the GCN version than on Xbox, and not one sound was deleted in the process. There were even graphical upgrades (60fps framerate upgrade) from the PS2 version, and cleaner shadows to-boot...all on ONE 1.5GB disc.
I'm starting to believe you guys are forgetting the core amount of space used on a game is TEXTURE files, which are 1/6 of the size of any PS2 texture, even with higher quality. Music and sound/FMV's are an afterthought, and only games like RE, Matrix, and Final Fantasy will create a bevvy of non-interactive media too large for GCN's medium.
Whether GCN gets GTA or not, it won't be because of system limitations, and considering the console has the fastest seek times per Meg, the streaming of data for entering/exiting cities will be faster if executed as well as Metroid Prime, and will quite possibly result in greater draw distance, and most definately without all the damn jaggies.;)

Yeah, its possible for one disc as long as they took advantage of some compression things and whatnot. But I think it would be better anyways (if the game did come to the 'Cube) to put it on 2 discs. But maybe thats just me:unsure:
