I'm sure you all know what the game is, Konami's action/adventure GBA game with some RPG elements. You kill vampires and stuff, and theres a special solar sensor thing on the game cartridge which you use to do various things in the game.

I wasn't very impressed. I only played the first level so far, but it was rather annoying trying to use the solar thing. The game itself is cool, nice graphics, fun gameplay, lots of good stuff, but the solar thing is really, really, stupid. Its not just a gimmick, you NEED to use it to play the game. You cannot complete certain levels or obstacles without it, and not to mention, just basic gameplay really sucks without it. You shoot enemies with your little solar gun, but it only has a certain amount of energy, once its gone, its gone for good, unless you replenish it using the solar sensor.

It plays sorta like an rpg, which I like. The levels are pretty cool and inventive, lots of great ideas. But this solar thing totally ruins it for me. I'm sitting in my house playing it, but then I have to go outside in order to finish a puzzle.

I'll need to play more before I make a final judgement on Boktai, but so far it looks to be a great game destroyed by stupid technical aspects.

The whole point is to get you outside, you must have known this. You couldn't have bought it (or whatever you did) expecting that this sunlight thing that's been the only thing about the game people have been talking about to be some small insignificant gimmik could you?

I haven't played it, but from what I've read before, the sunlight is a very important part of the game. If you don't want to play outside, I tihnk you should just give it up.

One man's stupid technical aspect is another man's revoluationary gameplay aspect.

Oh yeah? How many people do you think are going to go outside to play GBA? In the summer its hot as hell, and who wants to freeze in the winter? Not to mention you cant play it at night.

And its far from revolutionary, its an annoyance, considering there are conditions to playing the game.

Hey, it wasn't my idea to do the sun thing. I just can't imagine how you could have bought Boktai and not expected to have to go outside in the sun.

Anyway, you could use a window probably.

I half agree with both of you.

Darkmaster: I dont want to go outside and play my GBA, especially not in the middle of winter. Actually, I never really want to go outside for anything.

Ginkasa: Yeah, why would you buy it....

Even in winter it's not soo bad that you couldn't go outside for the game, that and if you really wanted too there are lights that produce a sort of "sun like" quality enough to charge a solar battery. Something like a heat lamp or to the effect of that :)

I don't know the release date. I assumed it was out or you imported it or something.

It wouldn't be a beta. It would be an early translation version, because the japanese version has been out for a while.

It's well past beta-testing.

It can still be an American beta version... just like there was an American FFXI Beta Version, even though the game was already out in Japan. But it doesn't matter anyway... the point is that he received an early version of the game, whether or not it is technically a beta version.

i agree... I like playing at night and I did NOT like the fact that I had to go outside to beat something. Good thing I have a sunlight in my bathroom for when I go pooh...er...um...nevermind. I ended up giving the game to a friend after a day of messing with it... that game bites.
