View Full Version : Extended Leave of Absence from the 'Net

Well, because my mom got a $300 phone bill (She has wireless and land with the same provider, so I'm guessing wireless ****ed her over), she's shutting off the land phone and just getting Cricket (cheap wireless provider).
Since the phone is being shut off today, my absence from the 'Net will be harsh to live with.
So unless I can find a way to be online more often, this is a partial farewell until further notice.

Actually I'm pretty sure Cable costs more, therefore not saving money, which is why for some people it's not as easy as 'just getting' Cable or DSL...

Cable/DSL is almost always cheaper than having to pay for another phone line(which I assume he has more than 1) and internet service.

Cable is ALMOST cheaper than dial up around here, because the call that would be made if we used dial-up is a different middle 3 numbers, therefore making the call charge more than a local call(but not as much as a long distance call) Get what im saying? We really only end up paying 10-15 dollars more with cable.

Hmm what are doubloons ? I'm confused.. Jon has spanish gold and he can't keep his telephone line ? hmm.. Jon you should move into joes house and use his computer I don't think wes would mind! eh..
What does it matter anyways? F-Zero GX came out today.. I'm sure he'll be fine without the Internet for a while. :p
I was paying 20 bucks a month (100 hours) for dial up before i went cable.
Now I pay 10 bucks more for 2mb down/1.5 mb up.
Those prices are also in canadian. So basically I pay 21 bucks american a month for pretty good broadband.

You hit it right on the nose there Dyne. +rep
I've occupied myself with F-Zero and now until Wed., SCII:D
(rented SCII)
But I'll still be here and there on the 'net. Have to use the librarie's comps.:( But at least they have a good connection.
I would have cable, but I'm still trying to get a job.
And also, is there something that I can use on a cell phone that allows me to use it as a "modem" or basically allow me to connect it to the PC via either a com port or through the modem so that I can get online? I swear I saw something like that sometime. If anyone gives me a good link, +rep to him/her.

Depends jon on what service you have and type of cell phone.. Cricket is a definate No because they block any service that is going through the data stream. Thats why they are local. :( sprint yes and verizion yes. The service with them is kinda cheap. I can help you get a job in town if you want you just have to apply at places that I know the owners. Aside from wei's.
